  1. It's educational. It offers insight into something that's going on in the world that I wouldn't otherwise know much about. I also like to watch "Untold Stories of the ER" and even "Dr. 90210" (did I just admit that out loud???). But I'm working on a degree in registered nursing, so I'm not a non-medical person.
  2. I just saw that for the first time a few days ago. It's a good show.
  3. We'll probably be heating up some turkey over the campfire.
  4. It's odd that public breastfeeding is even an issue in a society where the current fashion trend is to wear pants cut so low that your ass crack shows every time you sit down or bend over.
  5. Rich and I keep talking about putting up a Texas flag and an Australian flag (where we're each from), but we live in California so I'm afraid that people will do bad things to our house... mostly because of the Texas flag.
  6. No! Don't show me pictures of Bengal kitties; I'll end up with a 4th cat! (Cute kitty. )
  7. Just push them out of the way. They'll either adjust or they'll go find somewhere else to sleep.
  8. It's allowed. But of our three cats, Iggy is the only one that usually sleeps with me... and he is pretty good about adjusting himself to my sleeping position. I mostly sleep on my side, and he curls up behind my legs. Sometimes he'll let me hold him like a teddy bear, but only if I rub his belly while he's going to sleep.
  9. In my backyard. But maybe I was wrong about the C&H thing; the one that steveorino posted was pretty funny.

    Tea Leaves

Well, I happen to be an expert in tasseography (as of about two minutes ago), and I can say with authority that these particular tea leaves are giving you the message to "drink more tea."
  11. Oh. Sorry.... I guess I misinterpreted the fact that you were answering questions addressed to atheists with answers from a famous atheist. Hmm, this Bobism stuff is sounding more appealing, especially now that I know they don't find Calvin and Hobbes to be very funny - I have to agree there.
  12. asked and answered Ah, so the militant atheists have finally converted you? Welcome to the club.
  13. I don't know. But I don't really feel the need to have a "purpose" for living. I seem to be here for the experience - to learn and to feel. If there is a purpose to that, then it is a mystery to me, but the mystery makes it all the more intriguing. Depends on the situation. I'm not sure how to answer this question, because I'm not sure which "things" you are referring to.(?) If you mean things that are bad in my life, I have witnessed myself and others make huge changes in life, so I believe that we all have the power to change ourselves for the better. If you mean things that are bad in the world, I do not necessarily have hope that those things will change. All I can do is play my small part in making things better (according to my own perception of what is "better"), and then accept that I really have no control over the rest of the world. Mental stimulation, love, the mystery of life...
  14. I second that recommendation. An outstanding and hilariously funny book, about two buddies who set out to hike the trail. And you'll get a lot of good practical tips out of it too. I just ordered that book. I've been on the trail a couple of times - in Virginia and Tennessee, but only for short hikes. I'd love to go back and hike a larger portion of it, though I don't think I'm ambitious enough to ever hike the entire thing.
  15. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of nursing teachers as well. I believe that it takes at least a master's degree to teach nursing (as it should), and most nurses with advanced degrees have many better options available to them than teaching. Sorry to hear you didn't get accepted, Kelly.

    Multipe Cats

I'd suggest getting a younger (smaller) male kitten if you're going to get a playmate for Maya. He'll most likely grow to be bigger than her, but she'll have a bit of time to let him know who the boss is (her) before that happens.
  17. Oh, and if you're forwarding it to Visa from your dropzone.com account, be sure to click "Fwd as Attach" rather than "Forward" - that way they will get the full header, which will help them to see where the original message came from.
  18. Probably best to report it to Visa: http://corporate.visa.com/ut/faq.jsp#4
  19. For some reason, that reminded me of part of a brochure I recently read (UU Views of Jesus): (Disclaimer: I don't necessarily agree with this... just thought it was an interesting perspective.)
  20. So I take it you're not an atheist? Because atheism is faith by the same definition that believing in God is faith; it is a "belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence." I consider myself to be an atheist (for lack of a better term). I don't _know_ that there is no god (how could I?), but I _believe_ that there is no god. So with no proof or material evidence of the nonexistence of god, it seems that my disbelief is a form of faith.
  21. Well, with a name like Jesus, they probably wouldn't let him through the border without any papers. So I don't think we really need to worry about it.
  22. It's also for finding rare things that you can't find anywhere else, such as out-of-print books. (Though I can usually find old books from amazon's marketplace at a better price than I can get on ebay.) Sorry, but it sounds like the winning bidder got what they wanted at a price that they were willing to pay for it. Doesn't sound stupid to me. If it's so much cheaper elsewhere, then why don't you just buy it somewhere else?
  23. No, they don't bother me any more than other types of commercials. I dislike all commercials equally. Well, except the funny ones are a little less annoying. Like this one: http://www.ucc.org/commercial.html
