I don't. You already answered my question (told me what it is that you like about him). Thanks.
-
So do you wax your entire body?
-
Ah, so you like him because of the cute videos on youtube? I'm just curious... I see a lot of people saying "I like Ron Paul" or "Ron Paul has my vote" or simply posting links to various websites or articles about him. But I don't see many people giving particular reasons for why they personally like him.
-
What is it that you like about him?

Are you really trying to suggest that spanking is the equivalent of maiming and mutilation? I think he's exaggerating, but trying to point out that while "smacking the fuck outta" a kid may change their behavior, it's not necessarily a good idea. And I'm guessing that it's people who think "smacking the fuck outta" a kid is a good idea, and that it equates to "spanking," they are likely the reason that a ban on spanking is even being considered.
-
Well, you'll probably never know whether that was the first or the last time that the kid ran out into a street. It sounds like the lady and the kid were really lucky that the kid didn't get "punished" by being run over by a car.

No. The studies I'm referring to were focusing on juvenile delinquency. Whether they were spanked or not was just an aside, and even though the majority were spanked, they were not suggesting that spanking contributed to the delinquency. But it appears that spanking did not prevent the delinquency either. As far as studies to show whether spanking makes behavior better or worse for most children, I've seen both sides supported. But I really can't imagine that any of those studies are accurate, considering how many other factors are involved.
-
Studies show that the majority of juvenile delinquents were spanked in their homes, so that seems to indicate that spanking (alone) does little to teach kids to be responsible for their actions. I'm not saying that spanking should be banned, but I don't believe that children who are spanked are better behaved than children who are not spanked (in general). I think behavior has a lot more to do with parenting skills and earning respect from your children. And perhaps some people equate fear with respect, but I don't.

So it shouldn't be a legal problem unless it causes (physical) injury? Would bruising be considered injury?
-
So where should the line be drawn? When should a parent be accused of "beating" rather than simply "spanking"?
-
That's so cute that you have a crush on Bill.
-
So what's your guess on who will win?
-
Unless there is a drastic change soon, it doesn't look like he'll even come close to winning the primaries. Right now, it's looking like Clinton and Giuliani will be the two main candidates in November. And if that's the case, I think there are enough Hillary-haters to push the vote to Giuliani. So that's my guess.

I suspect that it is to your benefit to live in a place where children are growing up with at least a minimum of education, whether you choose to have children or not. If you want to change the law so that education for kids is not a requirement, then we could probably do away with school tax, but I'm betting that you'll have a lot more to complain about in that situation.

Well, if you're an atheist/agnostic, then religious people are sheep. If you're a Democrat, then the Republicans are sheep. If you like guns, then the people who want more gun control are sheep. If you're a skydiver, then whuffos are sheep. Etc., etc., etc. Basically, it's a meaningless slur to make the self-proclaimed "enlightened" feel better about themselves. (At least that's what I've gathered from reading this site.) Or sometimes it's just used in silliness . . .
-
I think that goes under the "hurt my feelings" option.

Most of the choices we make in life are selfish in one way or another. This woman has decided that the planet is of great importance (to her), so her decision to not have children (which she perceives as somehow protecting the planet) is a selfish decision. And most people who choose to have children probably have somewhat selfish reasons for doing so. But that's not necessarily a bad thing; I doubt that we would still exist if we were not inclined to be selfish.

Movie: "Not a Country for Old Men" (possible "spoilers")
Shotgun replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
Or at least put "spoiler" in the title. Then only the moderators will have to read it. -
Umm... Congratulations? Sorry, but that's not something I would personally be proud of. And drinking games are so yesterday. Find something more impressive to impress yourself with. And be careful about alcohol poisoning . . .

Oh yeah, I heard that was pretty funny, but I never saw it. Maybe I'll check that out. Lots of good suggestions on here. Thanks! (Though I've already seen a lot of these movies.) I was looking for a somewhat new movie tonight, so I ended up getting Year of the Dog. It was, umm... different. I sorta liked it. But I'll look back here when I rent another one. JP, I know I saw Snatch before, and I remember that I liked it, but I can't remember much about it now. Might be a good one to watch again.

I was just looking at the list that kbordson posted, and I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen The Godfather, which is listed as #1 (don't think I have). But I don't think I'm in the mood for that tonight. I also see Finding Neverland on that list, which sounds sort of good, so I might see if that's available. Not sure about the concert videos or the really cheesy comedies... Oh, and I saw the Princess Bride a long time ago. I'd probably like to see it again, but not tonight.
-
Hmm, what kind of "action" are they referring to? I probably would have put it in the drama category. Oh, and I've already seen Face Off, but thanks for the suggestion.
-
Preferably something funny, but I might consider a good drama or action movie... Any suggestions?

Wow, now those are some names I wasn't expecting to see on here. I don't recall ever hearing that song, but I knew those guys when I lived in Austin. In fact, I think Jared was at the dropzone with me for one of my AFF jumps. Not to hijack the thread, I was just surprised to see them mentioned . . .
