  1. "When I'm in a sober mood, I worry, work, and think. When I'm in a drunken mood, I gamble, screw, and drink. And when my moods are over and my time has come to pass, I hope they bury me upside down so the world can kiss my ass."
  2. It does not happen very often is seems but, this thread is going liked I hoped it would Well, I'm glad that I could help to entertain you. And if you want more entertainment, here is a video about monkeys (which doesn't really have anything to do with this thread... well, maybe a little bit).
  3. Yes, "brain health" is important. But I don't think that we have enough definitive interpretations of brain imaging, so that would be a dangerous tool to try to use right now.
  4. I've had good and bad experiences with chiropractors, just as I've had good and bad experiences with "traditional" doctors and other types of medical professionals. I think it's wise to be careful of anyone who you trust to perform or prescribe any type of treatment that has potential to do harm.
  5. Good idea. Worrying could lead to disease.
  6. Isn't the "Hey I like cats" and "I like Chinese food" sort of redundant?
  7. Only when I read Speaker's Corner. Or sometimes when I think about Remster. But other than that, no. I often think that other people are idiots and/or assholes. But then I remember that I am one of the idiot/assholes, and I get over it.
  8. Which of his books is your favorite? I've never read anything by him, but I wouldn't mind to. Edit: I was just looking at his books on Amazon, and one called "Dry" has caught my attention. Have you read that one?
  9. Wow, getting tasered is in style these days. And now I know what to get all the kids on my Christmas list. Screw the Red Ryder BB guns; I'm getting Thomas A. Swift's electric rifles for everyone.
  10. Hmm, several people have mentioned this one. I might have to check it out, even though I'm not a KC fan either. It does sound interesting. And someone mentioned Captain Ron. It sounds cheesy, but since it's about sailing, I think I'll have to rent that one too.
  11. I have no idea, and this "rule" thing sounds silly to me. Even a month's salary sounds ridiculous to spend on a ring. I've never had any desire to be decorated with expensive jewelry, but that's just me.
  12. I rented this movie the other night. When you mentioned it, I knew I had watched it years ago, but I was too young and/or intoxicated to remember very much, except I did remember liking the movie. Anyhow, I really enjoyed watching it again. Great flick! Thanks for the suggestion.
  13. Aw, what a cute little gun you have.
  14. And now he'll probably smack the shit out of his own kids. But whatever works, I suppose . . .
  15. It doesn't work very well, but it seems to amuse passing truckers. Well, not that I would know; I'm just guessing.
  16. I guess I don't follow that pattern. I was spanked as a child, but I do not believe in spanking my own children. But I think you're right in that most people seem to think that spanking is ok since they themselves were spanked as children (and don't feel that it caused them any harm). And along this subject, here is an excerpt from Delinquency and Young Offenders (Parent, Adolescent and Child Training Skills) by Hollin, Browne, and Palmer:
  17. Up until 1973 (I think), Massachusetts had some sort of "stubborn child" law (based on a passage from the Bible) which basically said that parents could have their children put to death for consistent bad behavior. Actually, I think a few states had similar laws, and I don't think that any of them were ever used. But it's interesting to see how laws regarding children have changed over the years. And if a spanking ban was to be passed there, I would imagine that would set the stage for changing the practices at that school as well.
  18. For instance? Asking too many questions would be a good reason, for starters.
  19. It's not a problem, if that's what she wants to do. But if she feels miserable because she can't live up to his expectations, then it might be a problem (her problem, not his). And yet the guy will be berated because of his insensitivity to this. Not by me. I'm sure I can find a much better reason to berate the guy.

  21. That's a poor analogy. An insult is generally intended to hurt someone. But a man prefers something because... well, because he prefers it, not because he is intentionally trying to make women feel insecure about themselves.
  22. Then the problem has little to do with what men prefer; it has to do with women letting their self-worth be determined by what men prefer.
  23. Why is that depressing? If all the other guys prefer the "altered" women, then that means you get to have all the "unaltered" women to yourself.
  24. Damn... Well, I guess I won't get Amazon's vote if I ever decide to run. Being from Texas, of course I'm exactly like George W.; you can hardly tell the two of us apart!
