  1. It would also be interesting to know if the people answering "yes" have ever used any illegal drugs. I'm guessing that someone who has already used illegal drugs would be more likely to drink alcohol if it was illegal, than would someone who has never used illegal drugs. (Though I know that the legal status is not necessarily what keeps a lot of people from using other drugs.)
  2. Oh well, I never followed the beer rules anyway. I started skydiving to skydive, not to drink beer.
  3. Not sure, but perhaps it had something to with the size of the alcohol industry and the fact that alcohol was (and still is) so deeply ingrained in our society and our history. I think that alcohol consumption has always been viewed by most as a "normal" activity that pretty much everyone does; whereas marijuana use has always had a more negative perception by the general public. So making alcohol illegal was probably perceived as a much bigger deal than making marijuana illegal (and, well, it probably was a much bigger deal).
  4. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't understand what this has to do with whether you would still drink it if it was illegal. Hmm, I can think of a lot of things that would beat that, but that's just me.

    Huckabee

I'm a little more concerned with the religious beliefs of the president of my country than I am with the religious beliefs of a skydiving instructor, seeing as a skydiving instructor's beliefs are not likely to affect me in any way. The religion that the presidential candidates choose to associate themselves with tells me at least a little bit about who they are. It may not be a major factor in who I choose to vote for, but it's something that I do pay attention to.
  6. This thread was started in February, when Gingrich was in the running. And perhaps Huckabee hadn't announced his intention to run at that time. (I don't know.)
  7. Yes, of course. But that wasn't the question. (Oh, and BTW, I suspect that legal alcohol has made a few millionaires too.)
  8. Just a hypothetical question: If alcohol was illegal today, but still widely available as it was during prohibition (in the U.S.), would you be willing to break the law to keep drinking it?
  9. And the raccoons & tub poop are all part of the package! Raccoons??? What did I miss???
  10. I've decided that this thread would be a lot more interesting if you would post a naked picture of yourself.
  11. If mankind evolved from apes, and apes evolved from the primordial soup, then wouldn't that contradict the book of Genesis? Believing in god does not necessarily mean believing in the bible. Sure; I don't know of any law preventing them from doing so.
  12. looks so tranquil. For the most part.
  13. I just came across this picture of my cat Monkey, and his face looks a lot like Franklin's in the picture you posted.
  14. This is what we've been doing on the weekends lately...
  15. Has his little red lipstick been popping out when he's "play fighting" with her?
  16. I find enough things in this world to be sad, without worrying about celebrities who choose to have plastic surgery. Who cares? She can do whatever she wants with herself. Oh, and she looks ok to me. It's not my style, but whatever floats her boat...
  17. Surely you realize that there are plenty of people who believe in god without believing the Adam and Eve story. How do those people think that mankind originated? I'm guessing that different people have widely different explanations for how mankind originated, just as different people have widely different definitions of "god." I believe there are quite a few who have decided that evolution is a process that "god" designed.
  18. If someone believes that mankind began when god created Adam and Eve, then that's in conflict with the idea that mankind evolved from the apes. You can't have both at the same time. Surely you realize that there are plenty of people who believe in god without believing the Adam and Eve story.
  19. In a country that is largely dominated by Christians, their beliefs have the ability to affect pretty much everyone else, so it makes sense to call bullshit on the stuff that so many Christians seem to think of as fundamental truths. Perpetuating religious beliefs has much deeper implications than "perpetuating the bullshit" of some individual's braggadocio (as in the example you used).
  20. Hmm, wikipedia (the authority on everything! ) has an interesting diagram of hard vs. soft drugs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hard_and_soft_drugs.svg. And from their article, it sounds like "soft drugs" generally refers to a drug that is not physically addictive, or something like that. (which would not include Valium!)
  21. I also tried acupuncture when I was having my shoulder problem. I found that I felt better immediately after the treatment, but it didn't provide lasting relief. (I enjoyed it though!) Anyhow, hopefully the physical therapy will be all that you need. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
  22. I don't know what (if any) scientific evidence is available to support chiropractic. But my personal experience with it is mostly positive. I spent about three years in serious pain, due to something going on with my neck and right shoulder. I went to a lot of different doctors, who didn't seem to have any answers other than to give me painkillers. So after spending all this time either in pain and/or doped up, I finally went to a highly-recommended chiropractor. It took a few months of regular treatments before I really started feeling better, and I continued going for about a year, but it worked. Since then, I've met a number of people who have become addicted to pain meds that their doctors prescribed to them for similar problems, and I'm lucky that I did not become addicted to any of those meds myself (though I'm sure the amount I was taking at times wasn't exactly good for me)... But because of this type of thing, I don't necessarily trust "traditional" doctors any more than I trust those who practice alternative methods. But that's just my personal experience, FWIW.
  23. Several movies come up when I try to search for "audition." Is it this one? http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1805537925/info
