I woke up to what I thought was an earthquake around 6 this morning. But I checked the USGS website, and there was no recent activity in the area, so I guess it was just a dream. Weird . . .

In Texas they're usually called "minor emergency" clinics (well, in Austin and Midland anyway). But it's the same thing as "urgent care" here in CA. My insurance company provides me with a list of the closest urgent care places, and the co-pay is the same as if I go to the ER. You might want to check with your insurance co. about them.

I guess I've had good luck with emergency medical care in the US (TX and CA). I've had to go to the ER five times in my life, and I'm pretty sure I never waited more than two hours to see a doctor. I've been to the urgent care/minor emergency clinics a lot more times, and I don't think I've ever had a ridiculously long wait there either. And I have no idea if there were illegal immigrants in the ER during any of my visits. All except for one of those times, I was too sick/f'd up/in pain to notice who else was in the waiting room. Not that I would know whether they were illegal anyway. Anyhow, I hope you're feeling better, and sorry to hear you've been having bad experiences with the healthcare system. I have my own gripes about the system, but I'm not sure if universal healthcare would make it better. (It would probably fix some problems while creating new ones.)

I like the way you think... You're welcome to apply for the job.

Well, I guess I'll fly with one of their competitors if I'm going somewhere where two suitcases will be needed. (Unless United's price works out to be cheaper even with the additional charge.)

Is "get a maid" a medical procedure? I don't know, but perhaps I should combine yours and Bill's advice and get a maid who only wears latex.
-
Is there a medical procedure that can be done that will make me keep my house clean?

Now I want to know what the original title was! If I recall correctly, it was "Were" instead of "We're". Which means skymama's just being anal.

No one knows what it's like to be the bad man, to be the sad man . . .

Crivello in Wildomar (~5-10 min. from Elsinore) is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. They usually have live music (piano/jazz), and the food is really good.

Well then what is your safe word?

This is the best advice in this thread (IMHO). Getting counseling now - for the underlying problem - may give him an opportunity to start his adult life in a better direction than the way he is going now. And I agree that the drug use should be treated as a symptom and not as the problem itself. (Don't take him to a substance abuse counselor or enroll him in a drug treatment program. It sounds like general therapy - just someone he can talk openly with - would be more beneficial to him, and they can recommend a substance abuse program if they feel it's necessary.) Also, I don't know how their divorce is being handled, but it's important that the parents act like adults themselves and not be disrespectful of one another in front of the kid. Otherwise, the kid may lose respect for both of them.

I thought it would be a thread about Demi Moore.

And just to add... I don't doubt that smoking pot is bad for you. But regarding lung cancer, the number of cases for pot smokers vs. cigarette smokers just don't add up to show that smoking pot is worse. Actually the stats are pretty far from it, from what I have seen. Anyhow, I had a friend who died from some type of throat cancer. Heavy pot smoker all his life (in his 50's when he died), never smoked cigarettes, never drank excessively (as far as I know). So I've always assumed that the pot smoking had something to do with the cancer.

Well, the OP was saying that one joint is equivalent to twenty cigarettes.

Well it looks like my guess was wrong... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080130/ap_on_el_pr/giuliani_25

Only Europeans mix weed with tabacco!!!!!!! And only Europeans consummate their weed. (Sorry, Hausse. We have to poke fun at you. )
-
Maybe, but without seeing what sort of research they did, it's hard to know how much validity to give it. From what I've read about "weed being worse than ciggys," it was about them finding more carcinogens in marijuana smoke than in tobacco smoke. But they weren't finding that marijuana smokers got lung cancer more often than tobacco smokers. Which could possibly be explained by the fact that some researchers have found that the THC in marijuana may actually inhibit cancer. Who knows... With any kind of studies involving human health, there are just so many variables that it is pretty much impossible to prove anything with even close to 100% accuracy.

I'm sure that there is some truth to what you heard on the news; I was just saying that I don't think it's the whole story. It certainly seems that (percentage-wise) cigarette smokers get lung cancer a lot more than marijuana smokers do. Though I guess with the info you mentioned, you'd have to compare people who smoke one joint a day for x amount of years to the same amount of people who smoke 20 cigs a day for the same number of years, and see how many from each group end up with lung cancer. And (assuming other factors in their lifestyles are reasonably similar) then we might have a better idea of which one is more likely to cause lung cancer.
-
You can also buy "carcinogen offsets" now.
-
I know they've found that marijuana smoke contains a lot of carcinogens, but they've also found that THC has properties that inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Which might be one of the reasons that marijuana smokers seem to be at less risk for lung cancer than cigarette smokers are (judging by the number who actually get lung cancer).

Of course they're real. And I kinda like their music too.

The roses in those pictures must be tiny! At first I thought the spider was huge, but I guess I'm just used to seeing really big roses.

Sorry to disappoint you, but... it's hot.

Not sure if anyone else is interested, but I did manage to find a study (well, an analysis of a bunch of different studies), that actually addresses many of the questions I've had about these reports on the health benefits of alcohol. And therefore, it's a little more convincing to me than anything else I've read on the subject: http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh25-4/255-261.pdf (Yeah, it's really long, and probably uninteresting to most people.)
