No, you’re not about norms on temperature, it’s about events. The planting guidelines put out by the USDA have changed over the years; we can all refer to them if we want to see that the norms have changed. I doubt you’d consider that. Record lengths of heat waves do nothing, because after all there was a single day sometime that didn’t exceed. As long as each minute of each day isn’t hotter than the last you’ll deny it matters. Therefore you have to consider 1941-1942 (over 9%) and 1946-1947 (18 and 8% respectively). There’s a one-year blip in the early 50’s, but you might remember that there was a little problem during the 1970’s, starting in 1973 (although it was elevating starting in 1968) until it began waning in the 80’s. 1990 saw another spike. Source: Investopedia Those are all part of history, and a two-year bout of inflation doesn’t signal a new era. You might suggest that WW2 had something to do with inflation in the 40’s, and you’d be right. But then it’d be intellectually dishonest to ignore the impact of COVID on supply chain that was a significant driver of the most recent bout. Wendy P.

Damn. Frankly I thought that was so ridiculous I never even thought about it as racist; just unhinged. Yep Wendy P.

Other than being racist against cows, not racist. It’s a riff on Chick-fil-a billboards all over the south. Since Chick-fil-a is a big seller among evangelicals because it’s closed on Sundays (I recently heard it called McNuggets for Jesus), it’s an inside joke. Actually, pretty good. The bad grammar is because cows can’t spell. Wendy P.

Yep, one group is judging based on performance, the other on content. And each thinks they're the ones judging based on performance. Wendy P.

I was getting one text a day; it's up to three or four now. There are few better ways to avoid getting money from me than annoying me. Wendy P.

And personally I’d vote for Kamala over Skippy the Wonder Dog, but the dog wins over Trump every time Wendy P.

Ok, I’ll admit we used to cut a hole in the slider for some canopies way back, and then reinforce it with crossed tape. Do you have another similar-sized slider you can experiment with, and just include a tertiary chute so that you’re covered if it turns out to be a bad idea? Wendy P.

That’s kind of like Luke Skywalker learning Darth Vader is his father… Wendy P.

That makes her a valuable adviser; not the primary, but definitely an opposing opinion. Because the President should be paying attention to people representing a variety of viewpoints. The country is too big and diverse simply to impose a particular political viewpoint on it (that's what Project 2025 is all about, and we don't want to go down that path either). Wendy P.

I'd agree to the point that bean counters shouldn't be in charge; but neither should engineers when costs have to be considered. The bean counters have to bound the technical solution (which may not exist within the bounds), while the engineers have to understand the reasons for those boundaries. Otherwise you end up with runaway changes and costs (been there, seen it, been part of it -- and not on the bean side...) Wendy P.

Personally, I'm in favor of buying the mods a drink Wendy P.

Let's bring this back to praise for Kamala Harris Wendy P.

Sometimes there’s a fine line between personal attack and wit. Let’s attack the content-free posts, not the person Wendy P.

It’s kind of like the T-shirts about motorcycling and skydiving: “If I tried to explain it, you wouldn’t understand.” Wendy P.

He was more on rec.skydiving Google his name (and try it without an E also), and if Usenet is still accessible you’ll get some classic entertainment. Note you’ll also get a lot of porn Wendy P.

This is a public space here on DZ.com. It’s really not a BASE-only space where everyone will take what you post as intended. So beware Wendy P.

Because safety is the largest piece of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs after physiological needs. Scaring people is powerful. Wendy P.

If you're in the USA, you need an STC. If you're not in the USA, then you should consult the government where you are. This is a very clear either/or kind of issue, but the authoritative answer should be available from resources in the country where the airplane flies. I don't know about an airplane that's modified and then flown to another country temporarily; I'm sure there's yet another exceedingly complicated set of rules covering that. Wendy P.

Naw, in retrospect he was a scumbag, too. Too many people are OK with the sliding scale of scumbag sliding further when it’s one of their homeys, and both Curley and Boston were Irish. No one is perfect, but each of us really gotta try to use the same measuring stick when measuring the same behavior as much as possible — including the consideration of context. Wendy P.

Thereby proving that bullying and terrorism work. But I understand it; they really can make life intolerable, especially with threats against family and children Wendy P.

Guys, calling someone a racist and a misogynist is definitely a personal attack. Attack the behavior, not the person. Wendy P.

What he also has is no concept of human respect. Wendy P.

Oh, the only appointed president was Gerald Ford, with Nelson Rockefeller as his vice president (also appointed). Wendy P.
