  1. Talk to Mike Pintamo at Mile-Hi. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he's also one of the nicer instructors there. If you don't know who Mike is, he's a very big guy who's often seen doing tandems but is also an AFF instructor and he's usually there most weekends. Or just ask for the tandem cutaway king. 2. Reality TV is for people with no reality in their lives. I'm pretty sure that we as skydivers don't fall into that category. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. As a deliquent rock climber (what can I say, I'm having too much fun skydiving right now to climb rock), both sports have their levels of risks. Without a doubt free soloing on rock (include class IV and V slopes) is more dangerous than skydiving. I'd also say that leading a trad rock climbing route is also likely more dangerous. Any sort of multi-pitch route (whether you're leading or following) is also dangerous on many different levels. But a top rope climb (assuming your belayer hasn't fallen asleep) is likely less dangerous. But in both sports, you have to rely on your gear, your training and while skydiving doesn't have this aspect, in any sort of rock climbing, ice climbing and/or mountaineering, you have to rely and trust your climbing partner(s). 4. Dude I'm not the who started this thread asking for canopy advice. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. I think you're missing my point of only interviewing 299 of them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Now you wouldn't want to interview all 300, 299 of them would be fine. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Did you get to jump on Sunday? I was at Mile-Hi and I got six good (one awesome) jumps in yesterday. We can't always jump every weekend here in Colorado, but so far in my short skydiving life, I've jumped in July, August, September, October, November, December, January and now February with no reason why I shouldn't be able to jump at least once in every other month of the year. 8. You're ugly and your mom hates you. But I won't say anything about your dog. PS: You last post was a good read. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. My vote was based on what I think the word "character" means. Another certain dude from Texas has my respect and admiration (hopefully he's jumping today instead of reading this), but the dude I voted for has plenty of character. PS: Is it true that Hook was accepted by the CA highway patrol? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Yesterday at my DZ there was a fellow (who has shown his face here on DZ.COM) who failed his AFF Level I jumped because he failed to pull in time. He got his debriefing from the AFF instructors but you could tell the dude was disappointed. But to his credit he hung around and got to talking to some other jumpers (with the exception of one guy, people who Ron would qualify as not-qualified to talk to students). Well not being on the jump, I knew better that to try and critic what went wrong. According to this fellow, he kept his emotions in check, but he was confused with some of the hand signals the instructors were giving him and missed the important pull signal. We (as unqualified jumpers) didn't try to tell him what to do, but instead tried to encourage him. In other words we told him that it's not uncommon for people to fail AFF levels. I wasn't alone here, but my mission was to try and incourage that guy to learn off of his mistakes and to show up next week to try again. In other words, he was getting encouragement from other people he likely wouldn't have received from an AFF instructor. Now if it turns out that he's not the right personality to be a skydiver, then so be it. The AFF instructors will know when to break the bad news to him. But if he hit a hurdle, then I'd like to hope that myself and three other people were responsible for getting him back on the horse and jumping. 11. Some of what you say may be true, and some isn't. It really all boils down to the individual. I recently started up a thread concerning to swoop or not to swoop and it was based on an analogy that flying a canopy and swooping is completely different that what airplane pilots are taught. Airplane pilot's are taught to monitor their airspeeds on short-final because too little airspeed and you run the risk of stalling and too much airspeed and the airplane remains in ground effects while much needed runway is left behind. Now as swoopers (keeping in mind I'm just a novice swooper) we like to carry tons of airspeed in order to create lift opportunities and increase our swoop distance. 12. No I'm also waiting for that to arrive as well. But that's ok ... I'm sure Duece is having a great time in Mexico. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Not all riggers are a like. I have easy access to two riggers right now. One of them is an extremely experienced skydiver not only being a rigger but also an AFF Instructor, Tandem Master, big-way jumper and one hot canopy pilot (he's also a regular DZ.COM contributor who's currently on the top ten DZ.COM character poll) and everything he says I try to absorb like a sponge. The other one is an extemely young guy who's got less jumps than myself and a certain "I know it all" attitude when it comes to gear. But we know that's not true. Now I know this younger guy knows more about gear than I do, but I'm leary to take his advice and he's yet to touch my rig. But I'm afraid that the experienced rigger is going to leave the state soon and I'll either have to seek out a new rigger or start working with this younger guy. 14. Where's my Eloy Holiday Boogie video!!! Where's my video!!! Oops ... it's not March 14th yet huh? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. This wasn't easy (having more than one vote might have helped), but I voted for a certain dude from Texas who doesn't need to worry about filling any big shoes because he already has big shoes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Hey I was one of those drunk skydivers. Anyway ... 0:6:0 Not a bad weekend of jumping considering I couldn't jump on Saturday due to the weather. So getting in six jumps in on Sunday was awesome. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's a good thing I don't have today off of work as the wind is howling this morning. You know you're a skydiver when you plan your days off around the days you can actually jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I was supposed to do something tonight here in the Boulder and/or Denver area, otherwise I might have ventured down to Canon City. But if you believe the forecast, today was supposed to suck (which it does) but Sunday should be jumpable. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I should already be on the maybe list. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. bump ... All of a sudden I'm sitting here thinking that this is a must attend boogie for this camper. I could always drive there, but that is one hell of a long drive (not that I haven't done long road trips before). But I've also found some semi-affordable ($250) non-stop air fares from Denver, CO to Ontario, CA on May 22nd and back to Denver on May 26th. Hmmm ... How far is the Ontario airport from Perris Valley and is there a shuttle? I'll be talking with the boss next week to find out if he foresees any project deadlines in that May long weekend. If not, I think I'll be getting myself a plane ticket.
  20. What your "Dear Sunshine" thread isn't keeping you busy enough? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. But then I wouldn't have enough time to post-whore here on DZ.COM!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Phil Hopefully you'll get some replies from some dedicated camera people. But don't forget that any coach jumps you may do while at the Tandem Factory will be done while you're competiting against the Tandems wants/desires to have their jumps videoed. So I don't think this will be an issue while you're at you know where ... the Tandem Factory. PS: Even though I'm not running out to be a coach any time soon, videoing others for educational purposes is a huge motivational factor for flying a camera. 23. Nope, no cutaways yet (if you don't count wind cutaways as real cutaways). However, I haven't been around the sport all that long (only 154 jumps in 7 months). I'm sure I'll have one sooner or later, but I'm happy that the need hasn't yielded it's ugly head yet. I do however go through my cutaway procedures on every jump and every once in a while I watch my Breakaway video to get me into the mindset of what to do under what malfunction type. 24. As a fellow pet owner, I feel for you. Sending get well vibes to Mister Kitty. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. Well if there's anything a stranger from Colorado can do to help out, let me know (hey wait a minute I'm no stranger, Sunshine gave me my first kiss pass). PS: I love the Bubbles head down icon. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
