The 300-way coverage on Ripley's was pretty much a joke. They only covered it for about 2 minutes of their 60 minute show and they sensationalized everything in ways only a whuffo would understand. Seeing the huge rubberband ball crash to the earth from the skyvan was neat (they said it fell at over 400 mph), but then once you've seen one car crash to the earth (ie: the Good Stuff video and/or DVD), you've seen a huge rubberband ball fall as well. Where to get "Dropzone" or "Cutaway"?
CanuckInUSA replied to dreamsville's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And that's where they both belong. LOL ... actually I like the skydiving footage in Cutaway, but the plot bites. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I suspect that the early days of the war won't be too bad, but once the troops get into the street fighting of Bagdad, shit is going to hit the fan. I'm sure more Republican Guard troops will die, but Americans will also die. This is going to be a different war than what we saw in 1991. Don't believe the media when they say it'll all be over in a few days. And don't forget Stalingrad during WWII. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Have you ever gone low unintentionally?
CanuckInUSA replied to jerry81's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The lowest I've ever gone occured a couple of months ago. I was head down when my ProTrack failed. But looking at the horizon I noticed that I was lower than normal, so I got on my belly, tracked, got stable and pulled at about 2200 feet (my normal break off altitude is 4500 feet and pull altitude is 3000 feet). So I didn't go that low. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Pilots are taught that they can stall a wing at any airspeed and at any attitude. So a high speed stall can occur when the pilot (includes canopy pilots) abruptly changes the wing's attitude and thus disrupts the flow of air over the wing (or canopy). I don't believe I have any experience with high speed canopy stalls, but I am told that they can be hard to detect due to the added speed. But the canopy is falling instead of flying and low to the ground this can not be good karma. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If you're nice to us, maybe Canada will sell the US some of it's water to produce the hydrogen. Then again, what am I thinking. GW would declare Chretien menace and then he'd wage war on us. And instead of Canada fighting back with weapons of mass destruction, we'd fight back with beer and hockey sticks. Then you'd be in real trouble. Yah it's so bad that I can still see the pavement on Highway 36, yet everything is closing. LOL ... sure I'll leave work, go home and watch some skydiving videos if the boss wants us all to leave work early. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

As someone who's lived in Colorado for the last five years, I'd like to think I have a pretty good handle on the people and the weather. And for the most part, Colorado is not as cold as many people think and we don't get as much snow as many people think. But every once in a while, a big snow storm hits us and hits us hard. Colorado is in the process of getting dumped on. It started yesterday as rain, turned to snow over night and it's supposed to snow all day today, tonight and into tomorrow and possibly into Thursday. It's possible that by this time tomorrow, we will be snowed in. But at the moment we're not. But what gets me (the reason why I'm posting this), is the way many people in this state react to a snow storm. You'd think that the people of Colorado would know how to handle the weather. But I seriously doubt they can. Maybe it's all the Texas and Californians who've invaded the state and are responsible for the negative hype. Maybe the people of Colorado just don't know what bad weather is? I don't know? Now it's currently snowing outside, but I can still see the pavement on the major roads, yet schools and businesses are closing left right and center. It's kind of hilarious. Maybe I'm saying all of this because I grew up in Canada and Canadians try not to let the weather dictate their lives. I mean after all, if they did, Canucks would be hibernating all winter long (which contrary to popular belief they don't). Anyway, I'll end this now so that y'all (said in my best southern accent) can get back to your GW versus Sadam talk. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dave You're not alone as I'm currently going through something similar. But I'd be willing to bet that to the girl I am/was seeing, instead of saying "Women/Men suck", she's likely saying "Skydivers suck" as there has been many a weekend days that I've been at the dropzone instead of doing stuff with her. I did warn her when we first met that I was addicted to jumping, but I don't think she really knew what the meant. So I'm not all that innocent over hear. Very nice swoop by Kelly. But some one needs to talk to Justin about not pumping his toggles. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

How much are normal jump tickets at your US DZ???
CanuckInUSA replied to konradptr's topic in The Bonfire
What we should do, is have the Bellas pull up shop and move to Z-hills or Sebastien (hey you and Ryan will be there next week so you're one step ahead of me) and become full-time skydiving bums. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I'm sure I sound like a yoo-yoo, but my intuition thinks that I'll be in Perris Valley for the Memorial Day boogie (I'll know more later this week or early next week once the whuffo boss comes out with our revised project plan). So if I can make it, count me in on your tribute to those in the armed forces DZ.COM dive. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I would think that a Spectre 210 (or Triathlon) would be a good canopy for you right now. Not too small, not too big. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Congrats on passing your AFF. It's something to be proud of. Hopefully you can keep the passion flowing in your blood. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Stacey wasn't at the DZ this weekend. And I was informed she was at home recouping from a scheduled knee surgery. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

April 2003 is starting to look like a kick ass month for this skydiving camper. First off my home drop zone is supposed to be bringing our new super Otter online sometime in April. Secondly (and this is all weather permitting of course), my home drop zone is having ballon jumps and helecopter jumps (which I've yet to do and signed up for today) on the weekend of April 12-13th. Then on Thursday April 17th, I signed up and I'll be making the short drive to Brush CO where some XAOS team members (like Andy Farrington and others) will be holding a canopy control class. And on April 18-20th the drop zone at Brush CO (Denver Skydivers) will be holding their CASA boogie. Woo-hoo!!! That's a whole lot of excitement packed into two weekends, not to mention when the Otter comes online. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Not a bad weekend for this CO camper. 0:10:1 No such luck in the all important humps category (of course what do I expect hanging with a bunch of skydivers). 10 jumps this weekend including 2 hop n' pops this afternoon when the ceiling wasn't all that good (but it cleared up nicely for the last load of the day). 1 case of beer owed for jumping my new Sabre2 170 canopy which is faster than my old 190, but I sure like it. Of course packing this brand spanking new slippery canopy sucks. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I would agree that one needs to be able to fly their current canopy to it's full extent before changing canopies. So maybe I'm caught up in semantics here. But his friend isn't downsizing, he's changing canopy types. More importantly he wants to fly an elliptical canopy. Now I'm not one to talk or judge (yesterday I downsized the same canopy type from a 190 to a 170 and did notice a difference in the two that I need to master before I ever think of changing canopies again). But I do wonder if 100 jumps is enough experience to have before going to an elliptical canopy? I know I'm not the one to make that sort of call and only the experienced people who know this canopy pilot the best can guide him. By the way, I need to get off of my ass now (stop posting here) and get to the DZ (even though the weather is questionable) and get more experience flying this new canopy of mine. Which part of the dive do you enjoy more?
CanuckInUSA replied to SkydiveMonkey's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm having a blast learning and improving on my freeflying skills. But I'm also having a blast learning how to swoop my landings. So I voted for both equally enjoyed. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Well my weekend hasn't started yet so how can I post my jump #s. ? : ? : 1 Who knows if I'll get lucky with the GF (probably not if I'm busy skydiving). Who knows how many jumps I'll get in. Alot will depend on the weather. But I'm guessing that I should get at least four jumps in on Saturday if not more. But I probably do owe some beer since I'll be jumping a new replacement rig (Sunrise Rigging built me a new container thanks to a mixup with the reserve tray size on my original container) and I'll also be putting a new Sabre2 170 canopy in that new Wings container. So I guess I owe beer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I have this camera and like it very much.

I'm still holding onto the slight hope that I will be there in Perris for the Memorial Day boogie. But if I do make it, I'll likely have to drive as I don't feel comfortable booking a plane ticket right now when I know the whuffo boss is likely planning yet another release of our product in late May or early June. I also have the freefly handle and like it very much. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
