  1. Yes I believe we do understand what you saying about someone hiding their pain. But for those of us who were lucky enough to know Holly (and I didn't know her nearly as much as others), we just can't imagine Holly to be in that frame of mind. She had so much positive energy and was such a happy girl to everyone she met. I'm sure Zenister (who's a dude BTW) was just trying to put his foot down on that sort of speculation. BSBD ... 2. And you call yourself a Canadian? Geez??? I was born with a stick and my skates. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Thanks for the info Steve. As someone who was fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Holly and considered her my friend, I really would have liked to have been there today. But I think you attending her wake as a stranger tells us a lot about your character. Blue Skies Black Death ... I'm going to miss you Holly. 4. Not only that, but there were days this year that I was jumping while you were sitting next to the fire staying warm. Of course I'd jump in even colder weather if I could (I guess growing up in Canada has a way of freezing the brain and the senses), but I've learned that loads won't be going up when the temperatures drop below freezing here in CO. 5. But the road from Loveland pass is closed. Good thing you can always get there from Keystone. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. I actually visited Pacific Skydivers in Vancouver back in October of 2002 and met with riggerrob (not sure if he remembers me). But I didn't get to jump because Mother Nature had other plans that day. My comments about the jumping being better in the USA are in reference to the much longer season. I mean look at us here in CO, so far I've jumped every month in the nine short months I've been in the sport. There's no way I could have racked up my current jump numbers if I was still up north. 7. I wonder if Lisa will sell me a Velocity-79? Actually when I first saw this thread I couldn't help but think about a line from the movie Bound. "I'm looking at a dead man". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Can't we all get along? Oops ... who am I kidding here on Talk Back. There are many things that make Canada better than the USA just as there are many things that make the USA better. Ultimately we're talking about two societies which are extremely similar (probably more than any two other countries in the world). Now let's go skydive (which is better in the USA). 9. I've heard from BirdWoman as well as many others that Lost Prairie is a kick ass boogie. But I fear work won't let me be there for the entire week that the boogie is on (the whuffo boss has targeted July 31st as one of our deadlines). But hopefully I can make it there for the last weekend of the boogie. I've driven up through Montana numerous times on my way to Calgary, so I know what to expect with the drive. 10. Remind me not to piss you off if I make it out to the Perris Memorial Day boogie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Oh one other thing I forgot to mention. Despite the fact that I do find smaller to medium sized women attractive, when it comes to jumping, I'd much rather jump with someone who's going to be close to my fall rate range. So if you were jumping at my dropzone, I'd ask you for a jump before I asked that 100 lb feather weight. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. I am a 200lb skydiver and fall rates with other skydivers have been a challenge. But I've also noticed that the small jumpers have fall rate issues as well. It's those lucky people who happen to be in the middle that have the best of both worlds and I don't think they understand the issues us big or small jumpers must endure. But if we want to jump, we must learn to deal with it. Big jumpers deal with it by wearing bulky clothing and make ourselves big in the air. Small jumpers wear tight clothing and must make themselves streamlined. Best of luck with your training. And remember to keep your head up. Skydiving will give you an appreciation for living life to its fullest and nobody can take that away from you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Pretty good stuff I'd say. I think I'll exchange another day of my life. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. How very true ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. After a full day of jumping and packing (and maybe a little drinking afterwards), I'm usually pretty tired and have no trouble falling a sleep at night. But every once in a while I lay awake thinking about my jumps and this was definitely in full force when I was an AFF student. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. LOL ... all I know is fast landings at altitude. Besides Eloy (which is what 1500 MSL), I've only ever landed at 5000 MSL or higher (not even factoring in density altitude). But what does this have to do with Balloon jumps you're likely asking? Nada ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Not just that, but also that we're tired after a long day of jumping and packing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I thought I ride home from the airport was even more dangerous. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. I did some ground training with Hooknswoop being my canopy professor, but only managed to do one evaluation jump due to the very cool weather at the time. Hopefully Hook will be holding another canopy camp sometime soon and I can get more evaluation jumps in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. High: Knowing that AggieDave just mention something about my favorite team sport. Low: Dreading anyone other than the Avs taking home Lord Stanley this year. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. High: Knowing that I'll be at tonight's Avs/Wild game #7 NHL playoff game. Low: Knowning that I'm losing 13 jumps paying for my hockey tickets. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. What are you trying to do to me, give me a #@&* ^#? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. I really would have liked to have been there today for Holly's memorial and sunset dives. But I'm too busy at work and I'm looking at a 14 hour drive each way to and from Eloy. But you are in my thoughts Holly and at 12 noon local time (when her service is set to start), you can count on the fact that I will be thinking of her. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Unfortunately skydiving is a sport which you must participate in, in order to progress. No amount of arching, practice pulls, etc, etc, etc will substitute for the real thing. If we all had wind tunnels in our back yard we could work on certain free fall skills without being in the air, but they're not cheap either. One area that you can help yourself on the ground is in knowing your emergency procedures and your equipment. One way I found to help train myself with my emergency procedures is to watch my training video called "Breakaway". It's a little dated, but it does provide some excellent malfunction recognition and reaction training. It's been a couple of months since I last watched it, but I did try and watch it every few weeks off of AFF in order to get my mind in the mindset of recognizing the malfunctions and how to react to them. Of course in my short 9 months and 212 jumps in the sport, I've yet to have a cutaway. So who knows how I'll react when the time comes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. Congrats for all of the hard work and determination and welcome to the club. Hopefully we all can bump into each other at the various boogies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
