I've never felt pressured by family or close friends to quit (I think they've come to terms with some of the dangers in my life as I've done some other dangerous stuff as well like riding a motorcycle, mountaineering, rock climbing, etc, etc, etc). I got some good adhoc canopy instruction this weekend as well and I feel I'm a better canopy pilot this morning than I was on Friday (I did do 22 jumps this weekend). I've been doing front riser carving turns for a while now, but the dude who spoke to me told me that I'd have more success with my swoops (as well as being safer) if I was more subtle with my approaches and he was right. I still haven't quite dialed in my starting altitudes yet as I tend to error on the high side (obviously it's much better to come out of the dive high as opposed to too low), but with the more subtle carve, it's easier to make adjustments and I can carry my speed into final and still maintain decent front riser pressure (my current canopy recovers faster than I wished it did). Another thing that I was instructed on doing this weekend was on how to shift my weight in my harness in order to add a harness turn to the carving turn and I noticed great improvements to my approaches using this technique. I still have a long way to go, but it was awesome to hear people who were on the ground watching saying things like "nice carve", "that was awesome to watch" and "hey I got a good picture of you". I look forward to more input from Jason (the individual who gave me this instruction). But I'm not ready for rear riser flares yet. Now if only my freeflying skills were progressing the same way my canopy skills were progressing. Of course I need something to humble me so that I'm always reminded that I'm nowhere near skygod status. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I got Scratch Garrison to sign several times in my log book this weekend (Scratch is one of the old time skydivers around here with a very low triple digit D License number). He signed three of my jumps all in a row and he signed them with his D, C and B license numbers. Then I joked with him that I was going to have to have him sign the next jump with his A number, and he told me he didn't have an A number. But on a subsequent jump later on in the weekend, he signed with his Gold Wing number. It was rather cool I must say. So the next time some jumper wants me to sign three jumps in a row, I'm going to use my A, B and D numbers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Of course things will change after Sept 30th, but despite the fact that I'm a new D Licensed skydiver, I still will log and have my jumps signed until at least 500 jumps as any rating I may want to pursue still requires 500 jumps. In fact I'll likely log all of my jumps I ever make while I'm still a skydiver and it'll only be after I hit 500 that I may not need to get them signed anymore. PS: Does anyone know that with the changes after Sept 30th whether or not 500 will still be the magic jump number for Tandem, AFF and/or Pro ratings or will these numbers be going up just as the license numbers will be going up? I just came back from watching a documentary movie called "Farther than the Eye Can See" and it's about Erik Weihenmayer's 2001 ascent of Mount Everest. For those of you who are not familiar with who Erik is, he's a Golden, CO resident who's blind. That's right you heard me. A blind man successfully ascended and then descended Mount Everest and this movie is about that incredible event. Unfortunately it's not the sort of movie which you can catch in your local theater.
