In eleven months I've made 283 jumps and I'm hoping/expecting (weather and lack of an injury permitting) to make at least 17 more in the next month to give myself 300 for my first year in the sport. No significant injuries to report (knock on wood) and one hell of an awesome first year. Currently I'm a little frustrated with my head down freeflying (more of a very fast fall rate compared to others issue), but at the same time I am very happy with my canopy progression skills. Earlier this year I was dating a 24 year old and I'm an older fart (turning 40 in a few months). And believe it or not, age wasn't a big issue between us. The fact that I was a skydiver (you know spending weekends at the DZ) and she wasn't (she never got around to coming to the DZ for as tandem). I miss her youthful exuberance and the fact that I was able to get some every once in a while. But other than that, I don't really miss her. I'm not going to argue that low timers aren't being hurt/killed under highly loaded wings. But so called skygods with thousands of jumps have also been hurt. Yes experience means something as does skill and currency. But the bottom line is that the margin for error on a highly loaded canopy isn't very big and those who jump the pocket rockets need to be aware of the risks (as I'm sure many of the more experienced are). Alli, you've got 15 weeks to do 94 jumps at an average of a little over 6 jumps/weekend. That's not too bad. Yes you will have to be dedicated (and healthy) to achieve this goal. But it is very doable (there should be times when you get 6+ jumps in 1 day). I personally believe that currency means a lot (especially when it comes to landing) in this sport. But jumping when you're really tired can be trouble in some cases. So it's ok to step back once in a while and miss a load. This last weekend I did 22 jumps in 3 days, and I was happy not to be jumping come Monday and my very last jump on Sunday was a hop n' pop as I was burnt out with full altitude jumps by that time. But weather permitting I'll be back at the DZ this weekend pounding them out again (likely not anything near 22 jumps though). Good luck with your jumps ... That is awesome Alli ... keep up the good work. Your family may or may not understand this, but you are very current with your skydiving and unless you're doing stupid things (which I'd be willing to guess that you're not), then you're less likely to get hurt in many circumstances as opposed to the skydiver who only jumps once a month. Unless you're taking care of little children (are you?) it's okay to be a little selfish with your life in terms of doing things which bring you so much joy. I mean after all it is your life right? I am by no means a canopy nazi. But the problem with this sort of thinking is that by letting people die (natural selection as you say) we are giving a bad name to our sport. Everytime the whuffo news reports to the whuffo public that a skydiver has died, then the whuffo public thinks more negative thoughts about us and our sport. If we can prevent a few of the lesser experienced jumpers from jumping in conditions (and this includes flying a canopy) that they are not ready for, then the less the whuffo public will hear about our sport and the more we can go on not worrying about drastic legislation. I am all for education and not all that kean on specific jump number regulation. But we do need to do something to prevent people from dying (or messing themselves up) under canopies which they are not ready for. Education and threads like this have prevented me from downsizing this summer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
