  3. Hmmm ... not sure where you got your info. Here's what the Discovery Channel website is saying for Sunday Feb 15th at 9:00 pm eastern: http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/episode.jsp?episode=0&cpi=24614&gid=0&channel=DSC And here's what's on Sunday Feb 15th at 10:00 pm: http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/episode.jsp?episode=0&cpi=24615&gid=0&channel=DSC I see no reference to skydiving or BASE? What am I doing wrong here? http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/schedule.jsp?dd=15&mm=02&yyyy=2004&channel=DSC Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

As someone who has yet to make a BASE jump (my day will come some time very soon), you obviously need to take what I say with a grain of salt. But BASE jumping is an order of magnatude more dangerous than skydiving. Of course maybe this thread should be moved to the BASE forums? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. You've also got to realize why I stepped into this thread to begin with. If it wasn't for NAFTA, I would still be up in Canada (living and working) and likely would not be a skydiver. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  8. It's worse here. Of course Montreal drivers are kind of crazy to begin with. But I'd like to not try and hijack this thread as I am curious as to how some people feel about NAFTA. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I sure haven't driven in every US state, but I do believe that the good citizens of Colorado (most of whom are not CO natives) are some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. In fact while traveling to the mid-west last summer (to attend the WFFC), I couldn't help but notice that the drivers there are better than here in Colorado. Of course this comment has nothing to do with NAFTA. For some reason, many Colorado drivers feel it is their God given right to drive in the left hand lane no matter how fast (or how slow) they are traveling. So you get this long line of cars occupying the left hand lanes (the passing lane) while a sporatic line of cars are seen in the right hand lane. And I just didn't experience this problem in the mid-west last summer. So who are the bad drivers? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Bush also has plans to extend Nafta to the rest of central and south america This article is not 100% correct as while I'm not sure when Mexico joined NAFTA, it was originally just Canada (Mulroney) and the USA (George Bush Sr). I'm sure you have some negative issues with Canada, but it appears that it's more of a Mexico thing? Of course you can't just blame NAFTA, as there are plenty of jobs being farmed out to China, India and other countries. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I hope you know Jimbo that I don't disagree with what you just said. In fact it's pretty much what I said, only in different words. Stop whinning people. If you don't like your current situation, do something about it. You live in a society that offers you opportunities that other societies don't offer to their citizens. Instead of blaming someone else, maybe you should take responsibility for your own future. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. So what do you expect the money hungry execs of corporate America to do? Pay more $$$ for domestic labor when they know they can pay less somewhere else? Get real people. The execs (who run the country) couldn't careless about the welfare of the general public. They are too busy watching the value of the stock portfolios to care about you or I. Either learn to adapt, find somewhere else to live and work, or go on with the status quo. Of course you also live in a democracy and if you don't like the current government, vote for someone different and let your local rep know that you don't like the status quo. However, I really don't think the government or big business really cares about you or I, all they care about is their own welfare. Welcome to America people. It's a great place to live if you've got $$$ and the desire to make more $$$ (walking over the next guy to get ahead). And it's not such a good place to live if you are poor because people just don't care about their fellow citizens like they do elsewhere. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Good god ... nothing but whinning going on in this thread. Hey people, you live in the richest nation in the history of the world with opportunities galor. And you're not happy. If you don't like the fact that there are no jobs, get off of your asses, educate yourself and start your own businesses. I tell you that this truly is the land of opportunity yet you do nothing but whine. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. You'd be lucky to get the driveway around here for 50k. Dude we all know skydiving is expensive and for many of us, it is worth it. Why are you trying to drive people away from the sport? There is more to life than money. I find myself going in the opposite direction from most other people (you know the money hungry people who claim that we must do this and do that in order to be happy). In a few more years (who knows maybe it'll only months) once I'm done soaking corporate America, don't be surprised to find me selling my house and travelling around Europe (the cheap parts). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I have been slammed, but it was likely a packing error (something along the line of rushing to get on a load and not noticing that the slider was NOT all the way up). So it likely wasn't the canopies fault. But it was my worst slammer to date (knock on wood). Sabre2s are good canopies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. So with all that said, am I to assume that you think AFF students never have to deal with traffic? I guess you haven't jumped at any mid to large sized DZs. You see at my DZ (a medium sized DZ), the AFF students have the potential to have other AFF students in the air with them, tandems, wingsuit fliers and any other high pullers who take their time getting down. We're all individuals with varying degrees of skill and talent. I'm not saying one training method is better than the other. I'm just feel that saying one method produces the superior canopy pilot is incorrect. Because a lot has to deal with the student's talents, the instructor's talents and the environment they jump in. 17. Damn ... I've never jumped under the influence of a rug before. Okay serious discussion trying to occur here ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I will acknowledge that the potential for an AFF student to fall through the cracks is higher than a static line student as they are under supervision a shorter period and unless the more experienced jumpers take notice, the recent AFF grad could be developing some bad habits. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Oh I'm not sure exactly what the requirements are, but can't some people become a static line instructor with only a hundred jumps or so? Are we led to believe that a 100-200 jump skydiver is going to have the canopy knowledge to teach a student? In some cases, the answer is yes (because once again we are all different and some people have a knack for doing things) and in some cases the answer is no. Yes static line students are supervised longer, but AFF instructors are often more experienced than someone who is only a static line instructor. I'm not dissing static line training, I just don't buy into the argument that static line students are automatically assumed to be superior canopy pilots. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I have seen the odd AFF student who lands better than people with hundreds of jumps. We are all different. Some people have a knack for flying their canopies and some people don't. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I can see the hop n' pop argument (that AFF grads may be more scared than static line grads), but I just don't buy this crap that static line trained people will be better canopy pilots. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I make 20 static line jumps or 20 AFF jumps, I'm still flying and landing my canopy 20 times. Why is it that the static line student all of a sudden is the better canopy pilot? Some people have a knack for flying canopies and some people don't. We're all different ... Maybe if a student trains somewhere where the AFF instructor neglects some basic canopy control training, then this may be the case. But the same can be said if the static line instructor doesn't provide good canopy instruction. In fact, many (not all) static line instructors are not as experienced as their comperable AFF instructors, yet here we are lead to believe that the static line student will be given superior canopy control training? I just don't buy it. We are all different and some people are just better or worse than others under a canopy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  23. I 2nd what Phree said ... I know of a couple of people who fly (or want) a cross-braced canopy and they aren't even close to maxing out their existing canopy. Fortunately for myself, I still have the CrossFire2 139, 129, 119, 109 sizes to max out before I ever think of needing a cross-braced canopy (not even sure if I will ever fly one period). 24. First off, there's no point in worrying about getting a copy right now as changes are imminent (sometime next week maybe, maybe the following week as all of a sudden life seems to be getting busy). But a replacement tape could be sent to you. But I might have to ask for some shipping expenses as this whole Bellas thing-a-ma-bob has costs me much-o-dineros. Also, while it's not easy to see it, you actually are in it. You guys (you, Greg, Ian and Ian's SO) are doing an exit right after the initial tracking sequences and I can briefly see you in your jump suit. But you've got to jump with me (like WrongWay did) and the jump has to go well if you expect me to make you a star. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. Who can give me an insight as to whether it's better to be there on the first weekend of the boogie or the last weekend? I'm thinking the first weekend might be a better option as the second weekend, people might be burnt out? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
