Nice setup ... it's funny, only in skydiving can a guy say he owns a sewing machine and it's not considered gay. By the way, a certain mutual friend of ours has lent me a dark side rig to practice packing with and while it's been great to practice with, I wouldn't consider jumping it with a ten foot poll (at least not jump the container with the velcro in it's current state and I do consider the canopy too small for me as well). So I can only image what some of your old gear is like as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There we go ... that's what I'm talking about. Maybe we can change this thread into a "How much of a gear rat are you"? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey I'm not into hot and humid weather and believe it or not, plenty of people do like snow. Plus I believe Colorado has more sunny days than any other state with the exception of maybe Florida. So just because it's snowing here today, doesn't mean some of us don't like this weather. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang, over 100 views to this thread and only eight votes? You people suck ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Both AggieDave and Mary have given good info. But I'd avoid the sit-fly suit if I were you (assuming you are into freeflying). You don't want to become dependent on a suit in order to learn how to sit and the same result can be achieved through the use of a baggy sweatshirt and tight cuffs on your pants (in terms of learning how to sit). Well I'm not as far behind as you may think: 3 Skydiving containers 3 Reserve canopies 3 Cypres units 2 skydiving main canopies 1 BASE container (in production) 1 BASE canopy (in production) 1 Freefly camera helmet 1 Helmet for swooping and BASE 1 Sony camcorder 1 freefly jumpsuit (hardly ever worn anymore) 1 RW jumpsuit (hardly ever worn anymore) 1 pair of tracking pantz (which I like and wear a lot) 2 visual altimeters 1 ProTrack (used to own two Dytters as well) 1 Wingsuit (not ordered yet ) 1 strobe light 1 nice pair of goggles 1 nice pair of Gatorz glasses plus too many worn out goggles to count ... So as you can see, I'm not that far behind ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Mine is from a nifty-neat-o swoop I did last summer while one of my friends video taped it. I have done better swoops in that time, but there's something special about the first good swoop video footage. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well it appears that I am becoming a true skydiving gear nut. I currently possess two Wings containers (my new one just arrived and it sure is purty and it fits like a glove), plus a used Vector3 container. I currently possess three PD reserve canopies (two 143s and a 193), I currently possess three Cypres units (one of them is a Cypres2 and another one was just shipped to SSK Industries for it's four year check) and while I currently only possess one main canopy (my Crossfire2 139 which I absolutely love), I am awaiting the arrival of a used Spectre 150. Oh and on top of that, an order for a true darkside rig from Basic Research was made and I eagerly await it's arrival sometime in mid April and I hope to be submitting an order for a GTi wingsuit sometime next week once I get measured for it. My current Wings container, my 193 PD Reserve and my original Cypres are likely to be sold to a friend soon (this weekend is likely the last time I will jump this gear). But I included it in all of this as I still own it and have yet to receive any $$$ for it from my friend or anyone else yet. So as far as I'm concerned, it's still part of my gear collection. So have I turned into a good gear rat? I know my retirement funds are not happy with me, but who cares when I get a chance to jump all this nifty-neat-o gear. Oh I will be posting some pictures of the new container once it's all assembled, but attached is a preview of what it looks like, and it looks and fits even better in real life. I regret to inform y'all (said in my best southern drawl) that I won't be attending this fine boogie of yours. Lately I've been going a little too crazy ordering new and used gear, I have plans to visit Eloy in late March and/or early April plus I have plans to spend a long weekend in Twins Falls this Spring. So spending all this $$$ and taking time off of work will be too much for this camper to attend the Mardi Gras boogie as well. So y'all (once again said in my best southern drawl) are allowed to say "YOU SUCK CANUCK" and y'all have the time of your lives during this boogie and be safe (both while jumping, but especially once the beer light comes on). My screen name is not a nickname (though it has caused a number of people to call me Canuck). Basically I'm a Canadian who happens to be in the USA. Of course if/when I do leave the good ole' US of A, I may have to change my name to: CanuckWhoUsedToBeInTheUSA. PS: Are there any American freefly skychicks out there want to marry an old fart like me to help stay here? I'll make you famous. I'd love to make a skydiving song "Will you be my girl" from Jet as I think it would be a great way to show case the talents of the right freefly goddess. Then again, lately I've been thinking that I'd like to try living in Europe for a while once I'm done soaking corporate America and I gain the right experience in the true dark side. I didn't mean to imply that Dropdeded didn't need to complete the necessary jumps for their proficiency card. I just wanted them to know that they are not screwed. The students should be able to pick up where they left off and one would assume that as long that they can prove to the coach that they know the material, the non-coaching or jumping portions of the card can be signed off on. It may not be the best place to skydive (though it's not a bad place either), but Colorado rocks!!! We have so many outdoor recreational activities here, great weather and some outstanding scenery. I think the Alberta Rockies are more picturesque, but the weather is better down here. Now what does Texas have that Colorado doesn't have? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

flyangel2 is having a birthday today!!!!!!!
CanuckInUSA replied to turtlespeed's topic in The Bonfire
February 11th must be a special day. Not only is it Mary's birthday (a special lady if you haven't had the pleasure of meeting her), but it is also my mother's birthday and yes I already talked to her this morning. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
No need to panic as you are NOT screwed. As Mary said, sit down with a coach and talk to them and before you know it, some more signatures will appear on your "A" license proficiency card. Since it sounds like you haven't jumped in a while, then you'll need to make a recurrency jump. But you were going to have to do that anyway right? As far as getting licensed, yes it is a good thing. But it's not the end of the world (especially if you only plan on jumping at your home DZ for a while). So keep your chin up. I'm sure there are plenty of other students who are in the same boat that you're in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Have you purchased a Complete Rig online (dz.com classifieds?)
CanuckInUSA replied to Fireflyer's topic in Gear and Rigging
I just recently took possession of a used Vector3 container with a PD reserve and Cypres. I'm sure both the seller and myself did have very small reservations about sending money or gear first. But we both trusted each other as we realized that we both know mutual acquantances (they more than me). When all is said and done, I am happy with my purchase (I have yet to jump the gear) and now I wait for my new (used) Spectre canopy to arrive as well (any day now I hope). Most of us are trust worthy here on DZ.COM as many of us have met each other at boogies. But that doesn't mean that there are bad apples out there. I haven't been there myself, but Skydive Ogden seems to have a good reputation. You could also go down and visit Clint at Skydive Moab (great scenery and Clint did go out of his way to accommodate myself and my friends when we visited his DZ last month). Fernie rocks (so does Banff), but another totally awesome place is Red Mountain in Rosland BC. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Congrats on the new gear ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I guess I should wait for the new (used) Spectre 150 to arrive and check out the pack volume then? Cool ... I didn't think the longer bridle would hurt the non-wingsuit jumps, but I wasn't sure at the same time. Birdman BASE is a long term goal of mine, but I will be using BASE specific gear and hopefully will have a better understanding of what PCs to use on those jumps. So a larger PC on wingsuit skydives doesn't seem necessary. Thanks for the info Scott. I hope to get measured this weekend so that an order for a GTi can be placed. I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or just piggy back on top of this thread. So I choose to piggy back on this one. I recently received my new (used) Vector3 container and am awaiting the arrival of my new (used) Spectre 150 canopy which will then be used predominately for wingsuit jumps (but I would also like to use it as a 2nd rig for non-wingsuit jumps). I am in no rush to get this rig up in the air because I also just sent off the Cypres for a 4-year check and currently haven't sent in an order for a wingsuit. But I'm thinking that I should also get off of my butt and figure out what sort of mods I want/need to make to this rig. And last week I emailed RWS about the merits of doing a dynamic corner mod on this rig, but haven't received a reply yet. So I just sent off another email (directed at their riggers, but also to some other people there). Anyway, to make a long story short(er), I would like to figure out what sort of mods I need to be thinking about. 1) Is a dynamic corner mod the right thing to do and if RWS can't/won't do it, should I be talking to someone at Morpheus or some other people? And am I setting myself up for trouble if the container has this mod done on non-wingsuit jumps. 2) The birdman website mentions that they sell the 100" bridle (plus I know of a rigger who says that he can modify an existing bridle). So a long bridle is good for wingsuit jumps, but what about non-wingsuit jumps. 3) Finally, I'm also under the impression that a 28" pilot chute (which I can get from Birdman) is also a good idea for wingsuit jumps, but what about non-wingsuit jumps? Thanks in advance for all your replies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Tell her that we wish her luck in pursuing her dreams. And if she does make that jump, maybe some DZ.COMers who live and jump at the same DZ can be there for her as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Not counting the student and rental canopies I flew, my first (um ... beer) canopy which I owned was a Triathlon 220 which I used for about 50ish jumps. Then I went on to a: Sabre2 190 (90+ jumps) Sabre2 170 (220+ jumps) Crossfire2 139 (173 jumps and counting) and pretty soon I should take possession of a used Spectre 150 which I plan to use in a 2nd rig for wingsuit jumps, having a 2nd rig for boogies and most importantly to get some experience flying a smallish (for me) seven cell canopy so that I won't be freaked out on possible reserve rides on my respective 143 reserves to be used in both of my new rigs (one is brand spanking new and the other is used but in good shape). Oh I also have a FLiK 293 being built for me as we speak, but don't tell my mom. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You seem nice and relaxed and that is one of the most important things for a successfull headdown jump. Try flying your legs a little more and maybe the arms as well (though I understand he may have had you purposely leave your arms limp). Other than that, pretty good for your 10th attempt.
