**** CENSORED **** Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
A local experienced CReW dawg (that you know) taught me this last year as a way to fly with slow canopies in the skydiving environment. I haven't tried it with a BASE canopy (dang what am I waiting for). But it is a good technique once you can get past the canopy shuttering (not sure if that's a good way to describe the feeling of the canopy). Definitely something to try first in a safe place before you need to use it in sketchy situations. But I'm sure it can work with the right experience and practice. You've basically just created a shit load of drag while keeping the wing flying and flying slower yet still on heading. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Never said I was the sharpest crayon in the box. But the show in question does reference 100 instead of the 85ish you speak of. We know the list is thorough though. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

No. About 100 have died since they started keeping track in the early 80s. But the true number will likely never be known. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't know how many people would know the name Bobby Sands. But back in 1981 while being held in a British prison, he went on a 66 day hunger strike until he finally died. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Sounds like something a BASE jumper would say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Just as long as they're not worried about that funny looking backpack I'm wearing with leg and chest straps. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
If your dream is to become a pilot, then by all means pursue that dream (obtaining my private pilot's certificate a few years back has been one of my greatest achievements). But be warned that the airline industry is in deep do-do's right now and you better be prepared to earn squat as some sort of commuter pilot (or instructor) until you can build up the hours and get a job with the majors (assuming they'll even be in business in the future). Have you looked into the Air Force? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Student kills 5 at school and grandparents

Of course guns are NOT the root of the problem in this incident. Whatever up bringing this kid had is what caused him to crack. But guns sure did make the job of killing easier for him and the guns did exactly what they were designed to do. Take human lives. But it was the disturbed kid behind the trigger which needs to be scrutinized, not the tools in which he used. Dang ... it sure would be nice if kids would stop killing each other in schools. Spectres are great all-around canopies. I use one for my wingsuit jumps (a 150) and I can shoot accuracy approaches as well as swoop with it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

BASE jumping tonight on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN)
CanuckInUSA replied to superman0710's topic in The Bonfire
Who the world famous Miles Dasher? I got to meet Miles last summer at the bridge in potato-ville and he really is a nice guy. He's a very talented jumper and well he knows a thing or two about jumping that we could all learn from as well. He's just a little misunderstood by some that's all. No I never did catch that one. I taped it the last time it aired. Are you AggieDave's Morgan? If yes, then I could always send you a copy if you really wanted to see it. Then again I'm not so sure how OLN would feel about this. BASE jumping means many different things to many different jumpers. But this show does a good job of getting into Jeb's mind and explaining why he jumps. It's worth seeing for the people curious about BASE jumpers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

If this is the same show which aired a couple of months ago about Jeb (which it sounds like), it's worth watching. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

You're right. At some point we need to stop. But if you don't recognize the potential issues of someone who's already giving fellow students jumping advice at 3 jumps (tandems no less), then imagine what will happen when he's got 50 or 100 jumps. I might as well tell Jim Slaton now that he's been replaced as my canopy control coach as we've got a potential new skygod ready to replace him. And I can't wait for my new coach with 50 jumps to really teach me how I can fly my canopy. Okay ... I think I'm done. If I haven't made my point, then I never will. If he's talking like this at 3 jumps, just wait until he's got 30 jumps. Then just imagine what he can teach us. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Which canopy is this? Your profile lists a Sabre2 135 but I thought you were already jumping this. Or was your old one a 150? How did you like your new nylon? It's fun to jump new stuff. Don't forget to wring it out up high before you bring it low to the ground. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I've joked with friends that we could go to some DZ that doesn't know us, sign up for AFF and then bust into a head down on Level I. Then of course swoop the student canopy on landing. Think they would like us? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Okay here's something that will maybe put things into perspective for you. I was once in the military. Hah the Canadian military. But I did get to shoot machine guns and all (and it was a long time ago). Now how would you like it if I showed up as a prospective DEA agent (or cop or whatever it is that you say you are) and I start telling my fellow recruits to relax, be calm, I used to shoot machine guns so I know what I'm doing. See the irony here. Shit if you started this stuff with a hundred jumps we'd still jump all over you (and I'm waiting for someone with thousands of jumps and years of experience to jump all over some of the stuff I say here on DZ.COM). Someone with 3 jumps, should not be thinking that they need to be talking to tandem passengers. If you're serious about this sport, then be a good student (and remember you are a student skydiver until you have obtained your license) and listen to people about skydiving. We know more about this sport than you do. Sorry to hurt your ego and all, but it's true. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Sending get well vibes to Skymama. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Congrats!!! Balloon jumps are fun. But you are almost guaranteed to land off. So they should not be taken lightly (not saying that you did take it lightly on your jump). Plus now you know what us BASE jumpers (sort of) experience. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's hard convincing oneself (or others) who only have a couple of hundred jumps that they too are junior jumpers (let alone someone with just 3 tandems). I know I've always had a certain confidence level in this sport (hopefully I haven't come off as arrogant to others). But when I look back to when I had 200, 300, 400 and even 500 jumps I now know that I knew jack. And I can only imagine in a year or two when I look back to where I am now what I will think. We all bring external experiences from other activities into this sport and often these can help our confidence levels. But we must always remember that no matter what we did in our previous life, how many jumps we have now or how well we are doing skill wise, this sport is different and there will always be someone else out there who has even more jumps than us, who has more experience and has more skill. And to get back on topic, it's better just to ignore whatever comments the tandems make about how hard core they are for trying a jump (shit even we joke about death sometimes prior to making a jump). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Dang!!! Looks like those of us who weren't there really did have a sucky weekend compared to those of you who were there. Oh well, there's always next time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Tandems come and go. Don't let the testosterone driven drivel get to you. To these people, they are being hard core doing their once in a life time jump. For the rest of us real skydivers, it's just another day at the DZ doing what we love. Jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
