  1. And you've got to think that based on his Catholic beliefs (you know all that Pro-Life mumbo-jumbo ... commit suicide and you are damned to eternal hell), he would rather live as a vegetable than to put himself out of his own misery. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Never say never. It all depends on the individual and where they are in their life. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. The Teri Schiavo's situation is a Bush conspiracy to get the public's attention off the war... Only problem is, is that I'm not really a liberal. Seriously I think this Schiavo situation is really sad and totally unnecessary (the media coverage). She's been messed up for 15 years with no chance of a meaningful life. I can understand the parents point of view if they are willing to take care of her and starving her does seem a tad on the barbaric side. But she is no where near coherent to what the family says she is. Her brain is mush. I hope she rests in peace. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I recently took possesion of my 2nd BASE rig and in it, I've got a Rock Dragon 303 (with vents and valves) plus it's my understanding (according to Jimmy) that I am the first customer out there with the 5th control line making me a test pilot. But I've held off posting comments as I've only made 2 jumps on it (one in which I was forced to land with my rear risers). So I don't know if I have anything of real value to add except to say that so far the Rock Dragon has lived up to every expectation I have of it (it flew nicely and was a wonderful thing to pack). I can't wait for my container to come back from Moab (it needed some adjustments) so that I could put even more jumps on the Rock Dragon. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Go for the reserve. It's designed to open and in many cases, it's the more docile canopy. Plus I don't know why so many people feel that they need to be jumping smaller reserves than their main. My main canopy is smaller than my reserve. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Just so that you understand this, a wing can stall at any air speed and at any attitude. Yes in controlled circumstances our canopies only stall when we pull down on toggles and/or rear risers. But a wing can be in a stall condition while diving towards the ground as well (something you likely won't experience anytime soon under a large student type canopy). So as previously stated by others here, the real benefit in this drill is to recogonize what a stall feels like (where the canopy experiences that buffeting feeling and you get that seat of the pants sinking feeling). You don't need to completely collapse your canopy in this drill to learn something. But it is important to know the slow flight characteristics of each canopy that you jump so that you don't stall out your canopy X number of feet above the ground. 7. If/when my time in the USA does come to an end (I am after all nothing more than a temporary resident of the USA working as a technology worker through NAFTA), I will move to the lower mainland region of BC. I currently own a nice house in a nice affluent Calgary neighborhood. But the jumping season in Alberta is short and they only have Cessnas. So I think I'd be happier now in BC than I would in Alberta (I have no desire to live in any other Canadian province). As to which country is better, well one must live in a variety of places before one can subjectively make an educated decision (something that too many patriotic people fail to realize). To spew crap about places you've never lived in is just showing one's ignorance (this is a generic comment totally unrelated to what the GTAVercetti said). Fundamentally there is little difference between life in the USA and life in Canada. The two countries share a similar history and share similar economies (and are each other's largest trading partners). I have noticed that I get paid more in Colorado and I pay less taxes. But it all evens out since my cost of living in Colorado (including things like health care) is way higher than what I would be paying up in Canada. And since the US dollar has taken a nose dive, saving money on certain commodities in the US is no longer the bargain they used to be. So the bottom line for me as to why I'm still here rests in the fact that I think Colorado has some of the best weather anywhere in North America and well the jumping is better down here than it is up there. But rest assured, many Canadians live very productive and happy lives in a country which isn't as obsessed with money, war and religious political agendas. Oh but I would like to add that I think North America is in deep trouble for future generations. Jobs are being outsourced to other regions of the world and unless North Americans can figure out ways to save their economic viability, we will become 3rd world nations with very few haves and too many have nots with no job prospects outside of joining the military and going off to fight and die in wars to make the haves even richer. 9. Good stuff huh Stu? Jim is an awesome canopy control teacher (and very passionate about the whole thing ... especially Ground Launching). I have a long way to go, but getting coaching (twice now) from Jim as well as a Ground Launching camp last November has set me on the right path for success. There are some out there who feel that they are above coaching, but we know better. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Canopy coaching can be used to help you resolve this issue of yours (which happens to a lot of people so you're not alone). I see no harm in demoing canopies, but it's better to receive coaching on a canopy that you are familiar with. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I stopped my download attempt and won't try it again until the file has been reconverted into a different format (like WMV). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. My download is FUBARed as well. I'm stuck on 8.9 mb of 62.4 with no sign that it will proceed (it's currently hung ... and I'm about to say #### it). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Looks like you just hit triple digits as well? Congrats on your 100th. What did you do for that jump? 0:10:1 No humps ... still working on that lousy stat. 10 jumps made on Easter Sunday (today) Beer owed for finally being able to make 10 jumps in one day. 14. I'm going to be attending my 25th year High School Reunion on the very same day that we're holding our 2nd Colorado CPC regional event. I would really like to compete in that CPC event, but my 25 year reunion only happens once in my life time. I can't speak for you, but there is no doubt in my mind where I will be on May 21st, 2005. I will be with some old high school friends (and I will be doing a rain dance at the same time).
  15. But I'm not Muslim. I'm agnostic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. And you are one cool Muslim by my books. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Instead of dwelling on all the negatives of this incident. We can look at some positives and that is that this is a great opportunity for Skymama's daughter to get some driving experience with Mom sitting next to her for guidance. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I was reading the CPC rules last night on the http://www.canopypiloting.com/cpcrules.htm website and I have a question or two for you. Will we be doing two rounds of Distance, two rounds of Speed and two rounds of Zone Accuracy for each competition? Plus will the speed round be a carving course? I hope it is as described on the CPC site. Looks like I need to practice more than just your typical hook-turn hit the gates and see how far you can go (your classic distance round). It also looks like I need to practice carving (which I've done before) as well as see if I can dial in some zone accuracy. This will be a great summer to gain some competition experience and to learn to do more than swooping for distance. And I guess this is the whole idea behind the CPC. I'm looking to a fun season of swoop comps regardless of where I finish in the standings (but I'm still planning on beating y'all even if you have more experience than me ... bring it on). 19. Not only has it been hooked up backwards by some in the past, Wingnut (a DZ.COM poster) has apparently landed it backwards. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Maybe I'm wrong, but this sounds more like a fictional story than anything else. Who in their right mind would approve of such behavior? If this happened at a church I was attending you better believe that the cops would be called and the leaders of the church would be punished for this unacceptable behavior. Good grief ... what's this world coming to? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Either the collapse of our economy or worse yet, the collapse of society. That is what I am afraid of. All the other things on your list don't scare me one bit (even death). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. There you go. You know how to milk it. Of course I don't think my name is helping me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. That reminds me of when Clint MacBeth recently told me that he was happy Clint Clawson was doing so well on the PST. Some people confused the two Clints. I would like to add though that the Moab version of Clint (MacBeth) is a pretty bad ass PST swooper himself. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. You guys are out of control. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
