  1. I hope Southern Cal dries out a little by this coming weekend. I'll be in Perris Valley for another round of canopy coaching and well it's hard to do it right if Mother Nature is being a bitch. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. And you're not helping out here either. Mistakes were made, hopefully lessons were learned. Time to move along. By the way I should be meeting with the injured jumper this evening. He's still hurt, so some silent get well vibes would be appreciated. But let's let this thread die the way it was heading before you chimed in. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Originally I was thinking that maybe we could muster up some CO peeps to come join you. But then I realized that you'll be there during the week and unfortunately people like myself can only do weekends. Maybe Rauk (or was that Rex Green) can get some time off and join you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. That's hilarious. Good for you guys. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Hmmm ... sounds like it's the pilot who is in control, not the canopy. Oh and while the Sabre2 isn't going to win any swoop comps all on it's own, it can be flown as a high performance canopy just as a Spectre can. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. The canopy stalls at a higher air speed when landing with your rears. If the pilot has the skill and experience, it can be done with success. But you don't get many 2nd chances in this sport and you don't build experience without jumping and staying current. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. You're going to find this show today as a pretty cool show. But unfortunately Felix has done a few other things in the BASE world to piss off a lot of people and there will be many who'll not like him here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. I for the life of me, don't understand why any one would want anything with a horrible glide? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Might I recommend you take this statement back. It's not the canopy, it's the pilot. I can shoot accuracy approaches on my Spectre 150 (it's mainly only used in my wingsuit rig) or I can swoop the shit out of it. Of course you're not going to see me competing on the CPC with it, but it is a very verstile canopy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. I appreciate the gestures. But they really are not necessary. In fact it would be cooler to turn this thread into a "tell me about your Planes, Train, and Automobile" adventures. My father was sick with cancer for the last few years, so when knew his days were numbered and we all prepared ourselves for the inevitable. Besides, my dad divorced my mom soon after I came on the scene and didn't really spend much time with him. Myself and my other siblings from his first two generations of kids (3 kids with my mother, another kid with another mother and three more kids who are 16, 14 and 12 with yet another mother). I predominately went to the funeral to give my younger siblings support so that they knew that they were not alone. It was a good funeral. 300 people where there. My father is a former air force jet fighter pilot as well as a retired airline pilot. So a lot of his pilot friends were there and I was given the opportunity to speak at the memorial (the speech went well) where I spoke of how my father pass his aviation gene on down to me. 11. Well I've been going through my own personal real world "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" adventure. My father died last Friday after a long and courageous battle with cancer. On Wednesday I left work mid afternoon to catch a 4:30 pm flight to Phoenix and connect onto an 8:30 pm flight into Vancouver so that I could attend my dad's funeral on Thursday. Well America West canceled the 4:30 pm flight and put me on a 6:00 pm flight. No biggie since there was still supposed to be 45 minutes to catch the connection. Well here's where the shit started to hit the fan. The 6:00 pm America West flight didn't take off until 7:00 pm and I missed the Vancouver flight. From Phoenix, they did get me on a flight to Seattle and there I spent a pretty much "Sleepless in Seattle" night in the SeaTac airport. But I did get on an early morning fight to Vancouver and made it to the funeral with about one hour to spare. But the fun didn't stop there. Now I was supposed to catch a flight last night from Vancouver into Vegas and connect on another flight back home to Denver. But I guess Vegas got some bad weather and my flight was canceled again. So now America West has put me on a different airline and flown me into Toronto on a red eye (I just landed) and I'm waiting for my hopefully last flight home into Denver. Shit I've been to Phoenix, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto and soon back to Denver all for this funeral. I sure hope none of my other relatives in Vancouver die anytime soon. I can see it next time, I be re-routed to CA, then to FL, up to NY, maybe another stop in Toronto before they send me to Vancouver. I'm tired, still hung over from Thursday night (myself and two of my brothers partied hard together after the wake). I was hoping to jump today, but now I just want to get home and sleep. 12. Just so that there is no confusionn here, the farmer AndyMan speaks of and the farmer McNasty out in Brush are two completely different people. The Brush farmer McNasty is just down right messed up in the head. But I do like what Travis (who jumps in Brush) said about just not landing on McNasty's property. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Thanks a good one Wendy. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. hockey - not safe. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I think you said it all when you say we are alone. At least we know why we do it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Yes I agree ... fuck Vail. There has been a lot of publicity concerning Shane at the antics of some of his friends. But the bottom line is that he is a world class bad ass skier. And now he's just extending his domain to include BASE jumping and Ski-BASE. I think it's pretty damn cool to watch the guy do aerials off of a mountain and I would love the opportunity to join the guy doing this one day. Go Shane ... you rock!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. To quote a friend of ours (Odie) who is off in Iraq risking his life as we speak. "Less bitching, more jumping". Let's try and keep the politics in Washington. Unnecessary witch hunts whether they are going after a RD, a DZO, some rated skydivers, or a skydiver who made a mistake and learned his lesson (and I would gladly share an exit point with this person any day, in fact I have shared an exit point with him on more than one occasion) are counterproductive. Instead of trying to divide ourselves, might I suggest that we try and unite to be one ... one big happy family. The whuffo world doesn't understand why we do what we do. Why do we need to misunderstand each other? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. The Farmer McNasty in question here is one of the worst kind any skydiving community has ever experienced. It doesn't matter if it is a student, a low timer, someone with a mal or an experienced CReW dawg coming off of down plane. This Farmer McNasty just can not be reasoned with. There is a good vibe at this DZ, but this Farmer McNasty has always been a cancer to the operation. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. My opinion about the complacency amongst some BASE jumpers extends further than the results of this poll (shit at this time only a handful of people have even voted and yes you are right, I can't argue, this is a skydiving website). Complacency kills in any high risk sport. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. 1) Jobs are going to be the west's biggest challenge in the decades to come. The far east is where all the growth is and will continue to be for years to come. Life as we know it in North America and Europe is about to change (if it hasn't started already). 2) Economies expand and contract all the time. You can always bet on a cyclical economy. It's the long term growth that matters. 3) Home ownership is a good thing to strive for. I own about 90% of a home. Do you own a home? If you do, then good on you. If you don't, hmmm ... well kind of ironic wouldn't you say. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I voted "no". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Hey I was asked to give a few words at my father's funeral this coming Thursday. You don't mind if I use this at the end do you. I think it's a nugget all on it's own. PS: Let's stay on the subject people. My father was dying of cancer for over two years. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. There are many different disciplines to skydiving. Some more dangerous than others. Freefall is one thing, the canopy ride is another. Knowing your gear, knowing your limits, having knowledge of what you're about to do, practicing good body position, stay relaxed, etc, etc, etc are all good things in skydiving as they are in BASE. And in that respect I still say the currency can be the magic denominator. And being current flying a canopy is better than not being current. So skydiving experience and currency does help your BASE. But there still seems to be a complacency amongst some BASE jumpers towards the dangers of skydiving. Look at the poll. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. We all know BASE is not safe. And it sure is as dangerous as we want to make it. Do you think skydiving is safe? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. What about OJ? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
