  1. I don't understand your stance Kallend. Kadr was caught fighting against allies of the country of his citizenship and could have been caught figthing against his own countrymen had Canada and the USA been involved in joint operations (which they often do in Afghanistan). From my stance that makes him guilty of treason. Once again if he wants to represent himself as an Afghan fighting the western invaders ... fine. But he's not. He represents himself as a Canadian and thus is a traitor to this country. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Unfortunately I won't be there. Money, time away from work are minor issues. But the biggest issue on my part is lack of currency. I'm not so sure I'm current enough to be competing against some of the best. Good luck to all those who will be there and it's my loss for missing out on the fun. 3. I may or may not be full of it, but I for one would like to kick Quebec out of this country ... and this coming from someone who grew up in that province. But that is a different issue outside of this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. The Kadr family has a history of Islamic militant fighting. Omar's father was killed in a fire fight in Afghanistan. If this Omar guy wants to represent himself as an Afghan fighting the invading western forces. Then fine, I can understand that. But he represents himself as a Canadian? Please ... why did we let this militant family into this country in the first place? Oh I forgot the supporters of P.E.T believe that all ones needs is a hard luck story and we'll give them automatic citizenship into this country. Hell we won't even bother doing a background check on them. Don't forget Quebec politicians were seen last summer standing along side people waving their Hamas and Hezbollah flags in Montreal. 5. I see, so too much airspeed can cause problem of sensing the difference between left and right, right? Huh? If I'm landing to the south and approach from the west on my base leg, what pattern am I flying? In aviation there is no doubt I am flying a right handed pattern. The only difference is the 270 turn to final. What pattern would I be flying if I ripped a 450? and what does airspeed have to do with what Mark wrote? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. That's because there are far too many spineless socialist anti-US dweebs in this country (driven by the media) who like to think they are a special in the eyes of the world without doing anything of substance. Canada of today for sure is not the same country I was born in. It has turned into the land of special interest groups where the rights of a few trump the rights of the over taxed masses. If he ever returns to Canada, he will be treated as a hero by the left wing media and their supporters. But I have this question for the lefties and LIEberals of this country. What was a teenager from suburban Toronto doing in Afghanistan fighting along side of Al Queda and the Taliban? Real Canadians don't just venture off to Afghanistan to join in a Jihad against the west. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Any LZ regardless if it's used for swooping, accuracy or just normal loads where people can experience rotars from the trees or buildings is not desired. Obviously if the DZ has no other choice, people must be aware of the potential hazards of the possible rotars. This is an issue for all of us ... Maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean by "swoop area". If you're talking about a general piece of LZ real estate away from the main LZs, then yes I have no issues with an accuracy tuffet adjacent to the swoop course. But to suggest putting a tuffet in a swoop course is just baffling beyond belief (unless of course it's the pond swooping nationals at The Ranch). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. It appears that these two swoopers were confusing their turns to final with the pattern direction. If I am landing towards the south and I approach my setup point from the west, then I am flying a right hand pattern regardless if my turn to final is a 90, 180, 270 or more. As a side note. I will only do this in hop n' pop training and/or in a swoop competition. But I like flying whatever pattern I need to (left or right) so that I am flying into a possible cross-wind before my setup point. This way I get the tail wind push at the end of my 270 turn to final. But I don't do this in traffic (or at DZs where they only allow you to approach from one direction). It's strickly a competition and/or training tactic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Putting an accuracy tuffet adjacent to the swooping lanes isn't an issue for those who know how to enter the swoop course consistently. But putting an accuracy tuffet in the middle of the swoop course? Why am I the only one to think this is just not smart. Competitive swoopers come into the entry gates at 60+ mph and then they have to pop up or carve away from this 3 foot tall tuffet? Surely people aren't suggesting this are they? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Of course each DZ will have their own real estate and traffic issues (one size does not fit all). If people want to put the accuracy tuffet adjacent to the swoop lanes, then I don't see a huge issue. Obviously the swooping and accuracy hop n' pop jumpers must be sequenced with each other and it appears to make sense to put the swoopers out before the accuracy guys and gals. Now if I am misunderstanding the stance of some, then I am sorry. But when reading this thread, it appears that some are talking about putting the accuracy tuffet "in" the swoop lanes. I'm sorry but that is just a dumb idea if they are indeed suggesting this. At a large Eloy type DZ, having an accuracy tuffet in the middle of the main landing area is not smart. But at a smaller DZ, what is the huge harm? Are people's canopy control so poor that they can't avoid this 10x10 (or whatever dimesion it actually is) object? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I don't mind sharing the load with the accuracy guys (seeing as I'm on the ground getting ready to pack before they even land). But it's rather brain dead to be suggesting that we put the accuracy tuffet in the middle of the swoop lanes. You really don't like us do you ... WTF Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Last summer I did a fair amount of hop n' pops and often I was on the same load as some accuracy jumpers. They gave me shit and often asked the pilot for only 2k when they knew I wanted/needed more. But once in the air, I rarely had issues with these guys. Due to my wing loading I would often exit first and would be down already starting to pack before they all started landing (plus our respective LZs were at least 100 yards away from each other). So all in all besides the crap given to me in the airplane, I had no issues being on the same load as these guys. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. So when can we start talking about banning big-ways or jumping with anyone period? Surely you're NOT about to tell me that no one has ever died in this sport due to a freefall collision? Then maybe we'll see all the anti-swooping pro big-way types defend their discipline just as much as the swoopers are trying to defend swooping. You can not legislate safety. I doesn't work in regular society and sure as heck won't work here. I'm all for seperate landing areas (being time or space). But some people here seem to think passing some rule will all of a sudden make this a safe sport? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Does the knowledge that there are some dangerous people out there prevent yourself from living your life? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. - We fall through the sky very fast. - Because of this there is a lot of relative wind generated around our bodies. - Because of the wind it is very loud. - Because of the wind, it's easy to get knocked around the sky if you don't counteract one body movement with another. The secret to freefalling is: 1) Relax. 2) Turn off the loud wind generated noise. 3) Continue to relax. 4) Fly your body within your skill and experience levels. 5) Be altitude aware. 6) Have fun ... and don't die. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. No normally no, but I have punched clouds at places like Rantoul. Skydiving? No ... BASE jumping? different story Well I will have to leave that question up to the people who know me. To some of them, maybe I am boring. It's not my call. "You can do everything right on your next skydive and still die". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. some people seem to forget the saying: "You can do everything right on your skydive, yet still die". and if they don't understand why this is said, then maybe they should question why they jump in the first place. You can't legislate safety into the world. Governments have been trying to do it for years now and it only produces two types of people. Boring sheep and rebels. Most of us who jump have a little rebel in us despite the sheeps clothing we often wear. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Maybe at your DZ you are. But as a whole you're not alone. It should be common knowledge that if you want your canopy control to improve then you need to dedicate jumps towards it. Freefall is fun, but it is good canopy control decision which allows us to make that next jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Hey Pop how many of the 31% of landing deaths were swooping and how many just made a bad decision under canopy. We know swooping is not safe and we also know that it takes hundreds if not thousands of jumps before one really starts to get it when it comes to swooping. So when you say: "We all know swooping is the leading cause of death, or close to it." I tend to disagree with you and would rather say" "We all know people making stupid decisions under canopy is the leading cause of death, or close to it." Ban skydiving and you will solve the problem of people killing themselves in this sport. But until you do that, unfortunately people will die in this sport and if someone is not willing to accept this risk, then they need to be doing something else in life. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Said it before and I'll say it again. It's about communication prior to leaving the ground. I made the mistake on that jump of not speaking to this visiting jumper. Had I known that he too also wanted to land in the high performance swoop lanes, I would have sequenced myself before or after him. But at the same time, just because someone wants to swoop the high performance swoop lanes, doesn't just give them a green light to go for it without determining who else is planning on swooping. This visiting jumper said nothing to anybody. He just toggle whipped himself into the course without any thought of who else was swooping. Both of us were guilty and both of us are lucky that we didn't collide. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Your words, not mine. I have already posted in a different thread that says anyone regardless of the canopy they fly who induces speed for their landing is swooping. It's not the turn type nor the canopy that is the problem. It's having fast canopies and slow ones occupying the same concurrent airspace and LZs. Geez ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. What part of fast and slow do you not understand? Go back and read the part about had I known the guy on the larger canopy also wanted to swoop the course and see that had I known this I would have sequenced myself. I made the mistake not talking to him prior to boarding the aircraft and I made the mistake thinking that by exiting last and pulling the highest I am allowed to pull at this DZ would give me free access to the dedicated swoop lanes. Judge me all you want. I don't give a damn. Just look at my log book or better yet talk to the people who know me and they will tell you that I pull myself off of regular loads only because I want to swoop and I don't like swooping in traffic. Now that I am under the "hated" pocket rocket, I know that I'm coming in really fast and the margin for error is reduced because of this. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. No argument there. But here's a twist for you. As a private pilot, I fly (not so much right now) Cessnas and Pipers and as long as I am cleared by ATC I am allowed to enter class Bravo airspace and play with the big birds at their airports. However ATC is fulling expecting me to increase my approach speeds when landing at a class Bravo airport. In otherwords, if I am going to play in the same sand box as the other fast airplanes, I am expected to behave like one of the other fast airplanes. If I can't handle it, then I shouldn't be there. The same goes for people wanting to play in the dedicated high performance swoop lanes. If someone is still learning the trade of high performance canopy flight, they need to segregate themselves from as much traffic as they can (be it in dedicated swoop course or even more importantly away from regular loads). I do not disagree with the proposed BSRs, I'm just saying the proposed BSRs aren't going to solve all canopy collisions. Only we, the respective canopy pilots (that would be all of us) can avoid collisions up there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Dude the root of the problem is not the turn type. I can do a 90 degree harness turn and still come in smoking fast under a 2.5 loaded xbraced canopy. No the root of the problem is mixing fast canopies with slow ones in the same concurrent airspace and LZ. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. Oh and the proposed BSR would have done nothing to fix the close call I had last September. I am a swooper, I exited last, pulled at 5k and flew to the dedicated high performance swoop course. This other person flying a 170 or 190 also felt that they had what it takes to swoop the course. Had I communicated with this person on the ground before we left the ground, then I might have known that he too was planning on swooping the course and then I would have sequenced myself before or after him. But I didn't. He was a visiting jumper and I made the mistake to assume that he knew I was one of the local swoopers who pretty much always goes for the dedicated swoop course and made the mistake thinking that someone under a 170 or 190 would also want swoop the course. Anyway, I digress ... the proposed BSR would have had zero effect on this event. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
