Someone wants to ban Plasma TVs? I don't care, I don't own one. But if you want to ban my LCDs. "From my dead hands" - Charlton Heston. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

goodbye America..North American Union and Amero on way
CanuckInUSA replied to livetofall's topic in Speakers Corner
It is rather humerous that you equate some North Carolina drivers license story with a market crash. I guess you read it on the internet so it's got to be true right? If you are so certain of this crash, then you can become a rich man by joining with all the other shorties. But don't forget, when you go long, the worse you can ever do is lose 100%. When you go short, well the sky is the limit when it comes to potential loses. The economy and the markets are all cyclical. What goes up must come down. I wouldn't be surprised if a broad recession is around the corner. After all the North American economy has been growing for a while now, and if not carefully held in check it can be negatively effected by high inflationary costs which is then countered with rising interest rates and then throw in the high consumer debt of many Americans (and many 'nucks as well) not to mention the debt GWB adds every day he is in Iraq and ... oh oh ... people and business stop spending money, the economy stops growing and ... bingo ... can you spell recession? I knew you could. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Trust me Dee after my rear riser stall crash in '05 two huge lessons were learned: 1) There is more to life than swooping. 2) Do not try to make it through the entire speed carving course on rears. I hope to see you get back on the horse once you are all healed up. One of the worst things to happen to an injured swooper is to have doubts in our minds. We can do this, we just need to focus 100% on the task at hand. The margin for error in our sport is very small. Sending more get well vibes to SunnyDee. RE: Surviving the No Wind Landing
CanuckInUSA replied to hexadecimal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Am I afraid of no wind landings? Hmm ... hell yes I am afraid of no wind landings. I am afraid I won't be going as far on a distance swoop in no wind versus a good ole downwinder. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
For sure when there is a strong tail wind at your back, deep brakes is your best option. When there is light to no wind, rear risers is often best and of course when flying into a stiff head wind double front if you are not penetrating. To the OP: make sure you have decided on where you will land by 1000 feet AGL. Many jumpers have been hurt thinking they can make it back. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Which movie to you think will sell more guns?
CanuckInUSA replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
As far as these movies are concerned? Who knows what they will do. I know when I was a teenager and I came out of the movie theater after watching "The Warriors" and I wanted to kick some ass in the subway on the way home. Thankfully something in the back of my head said "no ... that was just a movie". There is no easy answer to guns. If we were all level headed people then there would be no problems with everyone carrying a weapon for personal protection. But we are not all level headed and we don't all act rationally. Unless you are armed 24/7 and never sleep, you will always be at risk of being caught off guard by somone who wants to do you harm. Just look at what happened in Seattle last year when an armed gunman stormed a house after a rave party and shot many people dead. There was guns in the house, but since this gunman caught everyone by surprised, the guns in the house did not offer the protection too many pro-gun people constantly say that they would. Now before you think I am "anti-gun". I am not. I have changed my views. I am kind of neutral when it comes to guns and let me close by saying: "It is not the gun that kills people, it is the person behind the gun that kills". Really? Never heard that, either in English or in any of quite a few other european languages. And I lived there for 24 years so you'd think I would have heard that at least once.... Just because you haven't heard it and you continue to buy into the myth that the maple leaf on your backpack is your ticket doesn't mean it isn't out there. I met someone from Ireland last year who laughed at us for our maple leaf inspired backpacks. No this person's words were pretty much "those Canadians are just like the Americans. Arrogant in how they view themselves in the world". and this has nothing to do with Oilberta. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm badly addicted - withdrawal symptoms
CanuckInUSA replied to nanobyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How about a night jump, in a wingsuit in close proximity to a major city? I had one of those a couple of years ago out in Longmont CO well within in view of Denver's city lights. Great jump, great memories. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
CPC/PST 2007 Finals - Colorado
CanuckInUSA replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
LOL ... and we're surprised? Bummer ... but no surprise. It is during the work week and well swooping is not appealing to the whuffos. How many competed? Who are the new pros? Was the talent level as good or better as it's been in previous years? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

CanuckInUSA replied to nanobyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Been there done that. Even bought the postcard and sent it to all the whuffos who couldn't care less about skydiving. One thing to remember (it's hard to understand this when you are new). When the WX conditions are marginal. It is better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air ... than to be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Awesome skydiving HDTV demo...
CanuckInUSA replied to nanobyte's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You should see it in an IMAX theater. Talk about awesome. Oh I have the DVD plus a very unique version of this movie after sneaking a ######### into the Kansas City IMAX theater. So I do not need to download it. But thanks anyway ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
The USA has it's issues as well, but: Canada is a nation that likes to thump it's chest at the world and proclaim "We are the superior society to everyone else". Yet when push comes to shove, we are all talk with little action. Americans are arrogant with their ignorance to the rest of the world while Canadians are ignorant about how arrogant they come off to the rest of the world. There is this myth Canadians have that all one needs to do is put a maple leaf on your backpack and then travel the world and people will open their doors and to these travelling Canadians and tell us how much they love us and admire our so called superior society. LMAO ... ask a European about these flags on our backpacks and chances are their response will be "those dumbass Canadians are just like the stupid Americans". Oh and you were questioned about your credit cards since they (customs) don't understand how someone could have such buying power in a nation that loves to tax their citizens to death. It's the "I dislike Liberals and Conservatives" thread
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
In late 2005 and for a good chunk of 2006, I lived in the Vancouver BC area of Canada which while it has some capitalists, it is known to be a haven for socialist bleeding heart liberals. Then for the latter part of 2006 up until the present, I have lived in Calgary (Cowtown) Alberta (Oilberta) in Canada and while there are some socialist liberals here, it is pretty much known as Canada's most money hungry "look at me, look at the car I drive, if you are impressed with those you should really see my house" conservative capitalistic city and the biggest thing I have learned in living in these two cities, is that: I dislike them all!!! The money hungry "I will sell my mother" to get rich people are just as annoying as the bleeding heart socialists who feel that we should have one big hug fest, share everything and all the world's problems will go away. Why is it that those of us in the middle of these two extremes have little representation. Oh well ... I am obsolete anyway, so it really doesn't matter what I think. Carry on agreeing to disagree with each other. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Probably not Actually I think it will be an end to wars as we currently know them as. But the incidents of cat fights, hair pulling and tickle me pillow fights will be on the rise. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Can't sleep because you are too worn out??
CanuckInUSA replied to simplyputsi's topic in The Bonfire
OMG this is too funny. While I can't blame a work schedule or school work, pretty much everything else you describe is what happens to me. I have slept a tad more this week than on previous weeks, but for the most part I only get about 5-6 hours of sleep per night (sometimes even less). I should go to bed earlier, but often that doesn't seem to help when I can't fall a sleep (the brain just doesn't want to shutdown). Maybe if the cat would stop meowing at 5-6 am every morning I might get an extra hour or two. But I seem to be on this thing where no matter how tired I am (unless I am physically exhausted), I just can't sleep more than 5-6 hours a night. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Damn, I know I've been made to feel obsolete for a while now. But I guess we can look at one thing in all of this as a positive. It will be an end to wars? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I love my Jeep Wrangler for the rare times I do go off roading but more importantly when I need to drive through a snow storm. Of course I am spending about $60/week (not counting when I go out of town) on gasoline for it and it is not the best city/highway vehicle. But it is great in the snow. Now as far as the spirit of this thread is concerned. I am beginning to dislike all politicians no matter what party or political spectrum they belong to. They will say anything for a vote and then do nothing in return. Besides killing all the lawyers first (sorry lawrocket), the next thing we should be doing is killing off all of the blood sucking politicians. PS: I can't vote in this poll since I do not like any of my options ... hmmm ... sounds like the next time I am supposed to vote for some politicians. CPC/PST 2007 Finals - Colorado
CanuckInUSA replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
1) Sorry I will be AWOL from the event and I know I will be the one missing out on all the fun. 2) Sounds like AggieDave's canopy will come in handy for an additional packing tent. 3) Someone please remind Tom Philips to stop hurting himself during these CPC comps. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I am not always happy with the direction my life has taken (I should have taken the red pill instead of the blue one). But I recently watched a movie "The Bridge" which documents a slew of suicides from the Golden Gate bridge in 2005. I guess I rented the movie because I was morbidly curious and I have jumped from a bridge many times (while wearing a BASE jumping rig of course). But it was a rather disturbing movie to watch. While I may not always be happy, I know I am not suicidal (the two second delay on a slider off BASE jump from when you throw your PC to when the canopy opens always scares the heck out of me). But to get back on topic, remembering the good days in life helps me get through the less than good days. We need as friends to be there for our other friends who send out the warning signals. But we as individuals also need to remember the goods days of our lives when we are dealing with the bad days. Unless you are terminally ill, we should always look towards the future good days to get us through our present less than good days. We owe it to those people who love us as well as we owe it to ourselves. Let's keep our chins up people. Life (while not always easy) is worth living. Now will someone please pass me a red pill. What's the weather like here in red-neck Cowtown Oilberta? Shitty that's what. Cloudy with drizzly wet cold air and a high of only 54 degrees F. It just may snow this evening. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
