Ouch ... 137km/h is fast, but not that fast. But it is fast when you are driving on a village road. Note to self: choose your moments to drive fast on the public roads very carefully. I know in some people's eyes the mid-life crisis toy I purchased last year does take away a lot of potential skydives. But I don't care I have wanted a Porsche 911 for years and last year (as the world was coming to an end as some claimed) I picked up this semi-collectors 1997 Porsche 911 993 car for a decent price. For the most part I don't speed on busy public streets in the city, but I have taken it out on some country roads and stretched her legs a bit. However I also did the right thing and when I want to really try and find the performance limits of this car, I attend "track day" sessions at my local race track. You just can't drive a Porsche on the public roads like it can be driven in the controlled confines of a race course. I still don't know exactly how fast my car can go yet (I should visit the Salt Flats), since the main straight on this race track is not long enough. I get a few clicks above 200 km/hr (125 mph) before I have to brake hard and make turn #1. Haha ... all good fun, but I wish I could afford a Porsche 997 GT3 RS. LOL ... see it has already warmed up 4 degrees Celsius ... time to break out the beachwear. It could come in handy this weekend. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Technically it is cold here today ... the weather network is saying that currently it is -23C (-9F) outside though I suspect it is warming up as I type this. But -23C (-9F) is down right balmy compared to the -40C (-40F) temperatures we were experiencing a few weeks ago. But I live in Canuckistan where it is always cold this time of year. ROFLMAO ... yes I am sure Limbaugh uses all avenues available to him under the current tax laws to reduce his taxes. How is he any different than the ubber rich Al Gore? How about the Clintons? What about the Kennedy clan? Are we to believe that any of these ubber rich Liberal elitists don't have their own tax attorneys? If you want people to not have tax loop holes to jump through then you are going to have to change the tax laws. Wasn't this something Ron Paul was talking about? Did you support Ron Paul's efforts to do away with the tax loop holes? My guess is no ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

At least the modern world does not have to deal with two of the biggest dicks humanity has ever had to deal with in the not too distant past. Stalin and Hitler. Shit Stalin wanted to ice one of his own in Marshal Zhukov all because Zhukov was popular for doing what he was asked to do ... help defeat Nazi Germany. Talk about being a dick. Our present day dicks are boy scouts compared to those two "historical" dicks. BTW ... where's Moby? with all this dick talk, aren't we forgetting one of the biggest dicks ever? It is at times like this when we should remember that famous "non-politically correct" internet quote: "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win you are still retarded". Of course one of the differences between DZ.COM and other internet blogging sites is that many of us (not all) have met each other in person at the various DZs. But if the internet is supposed to equate to people making progress out there in society, I am not seeing it. All I see is people acting nasty towards others who do not share the same views. I am occasionally as guilty as the next person in throwing crap around, but it is getting to the point where "I just don't care". I am a happier person when I ignore politics, when I ignore the crap being thrown around on the internet. PS: Jon Stewart did an interesting thing on his show last night making fun of people who said things are worse today that they were in the good old days. And then Mr Stewart proceeded to remind us all that the 1990s, 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, 40s and 30s were all messed up as well. Modern society is messed up (no doubt about that), but at least I don't have to worry about being jailed for being 20 minutes late to work like those who lived under Stalin's rule in the 1930s did. That's why audibles are used in the game. I wouldn't rank this as one of the great all time games, but I watched most of the game and I was thoroughly entertained by both teams. The Broncos looked like the slightly better team in a very close 1st quarter, TCU came back in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and then wham-o this 4th down play mid way through the 4th quarter turned the tide in BSU's favor. Both defenses were great (TCU's run defense was outstanding) and as I said I was entertained. I can only hope the 'Bama/Texas game is nearly as entertaining (though I am thinking the Tide will roll). "If we can outscore the other team, we stand a very good chance of winning the game" - Bill Parcels before a game in the 1980s. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Re: [tsisson] accident in Casa Grande
CanuckInUSA replied to loumeinhart's topic in Gear and Rigging
It's a parachute, it wants to open ... regardless of whether it is a BASE or a skydiving canopy. The vast majority of off heading openings in skydiving as well as in BASE are due to body position. It's just more noticeable and more critical in BASE due to the lower openings and closer proximity to other objects. I never bothered to email anyone to find the nitty gritty details of this fatal accident. But I have been off of that same object in the past and when I jumped, I jumped off of the other side far away from these power lines. I have to wonder if the jump was made in the direction it was made due to the winds? If yes, then maybe it would have been a good candidate for abandoning the jump in the first place. But it is definitely a low'ish jump and a jump where the margin for error is slim. But as I said I don't know the nitty gritty details. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
There are a lot of "gun" threads floating around here lately, so I thought I would start my own "gum" thread. PS: I am not pro-gum, nor am I anti-gum. I am gum neutral. Just don't start calling me "gums". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

See we can actually agree on something in this thread and life on this planet is not doomed. Mother Nature will find a way to adapt as she has done in the past. Now Human life? ... haha ... we humans are a cancer. I agree we have done damage to this planet and we have even caused some species to go extinct with our selfishness and stupidity. Maybe we can agree on something else here now. Would you agree that the human population growth in the last century is partially responsible for the damage we have done? There are too many humans ... especially in the developing world. But Cap and Trade doesn't address this problem, unless you are open to the idea used in the 70s science fiction flick "Logan's Run". The insect is probably the only species that will be around for any length of time (assuming they have water and something to eat). Humans will probably create many glow in the dark glass parking lots soon what with Iran/Israel + USA's support of Israel, Russia's historical support of Iran, the Jihadist being so close to having control of Pakistan's nukes and India their historical foe living next door with their own nukes. Not sure where China's 1+ billion people will fit in this puzzle but they can't ignore glass parking lots. In summary all this shit is poised to hit the fan before Al Gore's ice melts and in the end the species with the best chance at some sort of future will be the insects. But least we forget, many many many moons from now the planet is doomed anyway once the sun burns out. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I welcome global warming ... I am sick and tired of freezing my ass off. No matter what I say the new "Climate Change" religion will reign supreme in some people's eyes. But here is something to ponder. What is the matter, don't you believe in evolution? Does your new "Climate Change" religious views include thinking that Mother Nature will not adapt like she always has? ROFLMAO ... and some of you call yourself scientists who all of a sudden will ignore evolution. Must be nice to live in a bubble where the new religion charts exactly what will happen to the world. It's true Virginia yes there is a Santa Claus and all the ice in the world will melt within 5 years from this Copenhagen summit unless you buy into our Cap and Trade system right now. The IPCC has already confirmed this as fact (using their doctored data). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Does this advice also apply to Al Gore and the IPCC? Why do they selectively use some but not all the data? Selective data is not science, it is propaganda. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

This just in from Russia during the Copenhagen conference. In case someone is in too much of a rush, the crux of this article reads "the Russians are suggesting that the entire global temperature record used by the IPCC is a crock." Why? "The IPCC had used only 25% of the data reported by Russia's weather stations and that over 40% of Russian territory was not included in global-temperature calculations". That is pretty substantial considering Russia occupies 12.5% of the world’s land mass. More proof that Al Gore and the IPCC are liars and have tampered with their data. What is the matter Al? Why do you continue to selectively use some but not all the data in order to further your political agenda? Of course I fully expect the Climategate preachers to lay into to me now telling me that I am full of shit and that it is the Russians who are lying not Al and their beloved IPCC friends and colleagues. But the funny thing happened to me on the way to pressing the submit button. I realized that Russia and Canada have a lot in common. We are the two largest land mass countries in this world, we both get to experience some really really nasty cold weather for many months of a calendar year, both Canada and Russia will be royally screwed by the "Cap and Trade" scam as we burn fuels trying to keep ourselves from freezing to death and finally Russians and Canadians know so much more about hockey sticks than Al Gore could ever dream of knowing. Somebody please highstick Al Gore. Besides being used to score goals, Al needs to experience first hand what damage a hockey stick can do to your designer elitist dental work. If Liberals are allowed to celebrate when Berlusconi is assaulted (BTW I do not support Berlusconi), then Russians and Canadians can celebrate when Al Gore loses his teeth with the very same hockey stick he was caught telling lies with. Teacher pulls a gun and stops attack outside school
CanuckInUSA replied to Ron's topic in Speakers Corner
I am not pro gun, nor am I anti-gun. I am gun neutral. But in case you have not see this, check it out: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/12/07/bc-jewellershooter.html Basically it is a story about a Jewelery store owned in Canada who pulls out his gun and shoots a would be thug who pulled his own gun first and attempted to rob the store. Of course up here in Canuckistan is was interesting news as the pro/anti gun folks squared off. PS: I lived in CO for 8 great years and not once did I ever feel threatened by a gun, as well as to show I am not bias, not once did I ever feel I needed a gun for protection (maybe I got lucky I don't know). But when criminals are allowed to run free to commit any crime they wish because they know the weak criminal justice system will not do anything to them (as it exists up in Canuckistan), I understand why some people would want to protect themselves from society's lowlife thugs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I know it is hard for you to accept this, but we do have modern cities up here in Canada. We are not a 3rd world country. If Americans would only look beyond their borders, they would see that there are parts of this world that are as every bit advanced as the almighty USA is. Now it is true these modern cities on the Canadian prairies are not as large as a city like Boston so I am sure a commute on a snowy wintery day is Boston is challenging. I have driven in Toronto and it sucks. But it comes down to seat time. How often have you ever driven a car in -30C conditions where tires do NOT grip very well, where nothing you put down on the road (salt or anything else) works and you are pretty much just driving on a skating rink. I am lucky where I live, in that we occasionally get warm chinook winds coming off of our mountains (and these chinook winds have occurred for centuries, they have nothing to do with climate change). But there are parts of western Canada that are thrust into a deep freeze from October through May. You really need to actually spend time up here to understand what it is like to live in a climate that often produces the same temperatures experienced in the arctic. If we do not burn fuels to keep ourselves warm, we will die. But we know you feel that we should be charged excessive "Cap and Trade" taxation just to keep ourselves alive up here. After all people who burn carbon need to be severely punished in your new world order? We know that you view Al Gore as a God, we know you view everything the IPCC says as gospel. In fact I would not be surprised if you were in on the selective science being reported by the IPCC climategate. But Al Gore's movie was nothing more than a Science Fiction Horror Flick. The earth's climate is constantly changing from hot to cold, from cold to hot from century to century. It was much warmer than it is now in the past well before the human industrial revolution started and Al Gore's hockey stick analogy was an outright lie thanks to the selective science of the politically motivated IPCC. No matter what Al Gore says, he can NOT control Mother Nature. Al Gore is NOT God ... Al Gore is a liar. Cap and Trade is a scam and will NOT have any effect on Mother Nature. Mother Nature always has and always will be more powerful than humans. You woiuld think a scientist would understand this. But I guess politics always trumps science. Climate Change is the new religion and you my friend are on the front lines preaching your gospel. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I saw something rather amusing today. The city where I live put up a radar device which flashes your speed as you approach it (I have no idea if it is also a photo radar device, I am not dumb enough to speed by this device), but what was funny that it is powered by solar panels and ROFLMAO ... the solar panel was covered in snow so the radar device was not working today. Now don't get me wrong I think we should use more solar and wind energy to supplement existing power grids, but wind can not power an entire city and what good are your solar panels when they are covered by snow? Not everyone has the luxury of being powered by Hydro. Coal is a necessary evil. I say go Nuclear and eliminate the dirty coal, but the granola eco freaks have a ape shit when you talk nuclear. It's as if the eco freaks want us all to live in the stone age. Fine and dandy if you live in a warm climate, but it is just not going to happen when you live up north. I never did explain why I do NOT like automatic transmissions on the icy roads. With a manual transmission, the moment you sense that you are losing grip you can immediately engage the clutch (usually within 1/4 to 1/2 a second) and power to the wheels is neutralized. From that point on you are just dealing with direction and decreasing momentum versus having to deal with a car who's wheels are still being driven forward by the engine. It has nothing to do with power splitting or gear ratios and everything to do with regaining control after possibly losing control of the car. Sorry unless your hybrid has a way to immediately disengage power to the wheels within a split second, I prefer driving a clutch equipped vehicle on the icy roads. You see to me being able to safely navigate wintery roads when it is -30C is a million times more important that my carbon foot print. But driving on icy roads has nothing to do with Al Gore's climegate global warning hysteria propaganda. So I shall never speak of automatic versus manual transmission on snowy icy roads ever again ... in this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
Yes I think there is a very good chance that someone who actually lives in climate that routinely experiences -30C temperatures would have more seat time driving on the white slippery icy stuff than some New York/Boston area person. You can't seriously be implying that New York and Boston has anything remotely close to the arctic weather the Canadian prairies experiences? Toronto has cup cake winters, and their winters are harsher than New York's and Boston's. ROFLMAO BTW ... what does Al Gore know about hockey sticks? Too bad the Nobel Peace Prize winner neglected to tell the truth in his Academy Award winning science fiction horror movie. Too funny ... but the Nobel Peace Prize does not mean anything anymore. When it gets awarded to a man who escalates a war, obviously the Nobel Peace prize has little to do with peace and everything to do with propaganda. Personally I would strip Barack of his prize since (knock on wood) he's not nearly as bad on the propaganda front as Gore with the "all the ice on the two poles will be gone in the next five years if we don't give him a blank Cap and Trade check" with his religious climategate. But there is still time for Obama to part the Red Sea before he arrives in Denmark. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
No thanks ... http://www.samarins.com/reviews/highlander.html In case you do not want to read the link ... it says "No manual transmission were offered.". I realize someone from Southern California knows so much more about how to drive in winter weather conditions versus someone who has spent their entire life living in Canada (minus an 8 year stint also living in occasionally very snowy Colorado). But this northern driver does NOT like driving automatic vehicles on snow and ice ... Nope I prefer to drive manual transmissions on the slippery icy stuff. If you don't mind, I think I will be keeping my 5 speed manual transmission Jeep Wrangler for as long as I can. BTW ... I would love to see Al "I invented the Internet" Gore debate Lord Monkton on climategate. But somehow I doubt Mr Gore would ever agree to this debate since his movie and his views have little to do about science and instead are about his politics and his desire to control his Cap and Trade scam. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
No not too much to drink. More like I am not buying into the climategate religion. The Cap and Trade scam is going to royally screw us northerners who have no choice if we do not want to freeze to death as Al "I invented the Internet all the way from it's always warm here in the southern US of A" Gore laughs all the way to the bank. I believe in evolution ... I believe the earth and most (not all) creatures will find a way to adapt to the ever changing planet. I also know that one day ... a long long long time from now ... life on this planet will cease to exist. Why? because our sun is doomed ... Stop playing God ... Humans can NOT control Mother Nature but Humans can control their pollutants. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
Your Cap and Trade system is going to royally screw us up the ass as you tax the living #### out of us as Al Gore laughs all the way to the bank. But then what the heck do you care about the people up north. You don't live with -30C weather. You could care less that it costs us hundreds of dollars every month to heat our homes, not counting the hundreds more this Cap and Trade scam will cost us. Come spend a winter up here in Western Canada's prairies and don't forget to bring your electric car that you must use on a daily basis as you get around. Or better yet, take the bus every where you go ... sure is nice waiting for the bus when the mercury drops to -30C. Then tell us how well you fared with our arctic climate living in your unheated home posting on the internet using electricity with your plastic computer made with oil. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
