UN: Himalayan glaciers warning not backed up
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
I stand corrected ... I will try to remember this (before my Alzheimer's sets in). I may not be the sharpest pencil in the box, but I am not dull. My day to day life is filled with 1s and 0s. Actually I lie, my day to day life is filled with funny looking text that to a non-developers eye looks like nothing but gibberish. But to someone like myself makes perfect sense and often results in creatures that live in computers that behave as if they are actually alive. It's been a while since I have had to deal with atoms that make up molecules on a day to day basis. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Official Sharks are going to win the Cup Thread
CanuckInUSA replied to LongWayToFall's topic in The Bonfire
Sharks are good ... but one game does not make a season (plus this win you speak of was against the Flames, hardly one of the serious contenders). When the Sharks have 15 playoff wins and poised to win #16, then maybe, just maybe we can start talking about the Sharks winning the Cup. Wasn't it just last year when the Penguins were down and out to the Red Wings in the finals? and look what happened. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
UN: Himalayan glaciers warning not backed up
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
There is a big thing in the sky that is approximately 93 million miles away from this planet. It is more powerful that anything humans will ever know. In fact Mother Nature always has and always will be more powerful than humans. What is the matter? Do you not believe in evolution? Has your new "Climate Change" religious beliefs taken over all rational thought that life on this planet will not continue to adapt to an ever changing world like it always has since that interesting object 93 million miles from us came into existence billions and billions of years ago? CO2 ... one molecule of carbon and two molecules of oxygen. Hardly a toxic combination of elements. In fact it is vital for life to be sustained on this planet. The IPCC is a political organization. The IPCC gave up on science the moment it decided doctor it's data. The IPCC is out to deceive the world for it's own political reasons. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Come on professor, that is piss poor QA. I have been working as a software developer for 25 years now. In the business, it is well known that the sooner you find problems the cheaper they are to fix. It is better to find problems in conception and in the design phase. Also, finding problems in the development phase is better than finding them in QA. But once something is released to market, it is bad mojo and a poor sign that QA did not do a thorough enough job when problems are discovered in production and fixing problems in production can be very expensive. What happened here is the equivalent to releasing a product to the world, letting it sit out there for several years having it do it's damage and only once the public realized that there was a goal by the IPCC to deceive them, the product was recalled. If you call this good QA, maybe you should stay in school a little longer. I know where I work (in the real world), you lose your job if you perform poorly, you lose your job if you are caught purposely deceiving the customer. I would not stay in business very long if I continued to operate in the same manner that the IPCC has operated. This is just yet another blow to the credibility of the IPCC. A bunch of scientists who refused to do their scientific jobs all because they have a new "Climate Change" religious doctrine to follow. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Agreed ... Both GOP and DEMs can stink up the joint with their respective rhetoric. the GOP need to be smart with this one and not gloat too much. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What the heck does Palin have to do with this Massachusetts Senate race to fill Kennedy's seat? Why is the left so obsessed with Palin? I even caught a small bit of CNN (Celebrity News Network) and they too were talking about Palin this evening. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

England: TV Star Warned Over Waving Knife At Intruders
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
I wonder how much firearm exposure the anti-gun folks have and could this be influencing their opinions. I know as a child I was allowed to have toy guns but I was never exposed to the real thing until I spent a short time in the Canadian Reserve Armed Forces. While in the reserves I did learn (to some degree) the power of the firearm while sitting under ground in the bunker operating the targets on the gun range. I will never forget hearing the crack of the target as the round passed through it, then hearing the wiz of the round as it passed through the air only to be followed by the crack of the rifle down range. I can only imagine what it is like to be standing above ground having someone shooting at you. Firearms can be deadly, but it is not the gun that kills you. Throughout human history, people have killed people and they use all sorts of tools to get the job done. A gun is only one of many tools. But rest assured, some folks are in dream land if they think humans will stop killing other living creatures. As sad as this may sound, this is the reality of life and death on this planet. The strong prey on the weak. Without a doubt criminal gun activity in the USA (as well as many other countries) is a problem and part of the problem in the USA is that firearms are fairly easy to obtain compared to other countries. But banning guns will never solve anything. Banning will only effect the law abiding citizen. Look how well banning drugs has worked. The USA should do a better job educating and certifying people on the proper safe use and storage of their firearms. But calling for a ban will never work. Criminals disobey laws for a reason. They disobey these laws because they are criminals. Banning guns will not take the firearm out of the criminal's hands. In the past, I was like georgerussia thinking why does a PFC "private ####ing citizen" need certain types of firearms, but then someone (I forget who it was) here on dizzy.com mentioned to me "some of us like these firearms because we used them in the military" and then it dawned on me. Hey while my exposure to the Canadian military in the 1980s was more like a boyscout camp-out compared to some of the folks out there who have actually been to war, nevertheless I was exposed to firearms and if you look back to how the military introduced me to their weapons, it was in a totally responsible manner (not at all to be confused with how the gang banger criminals use their weapons). georgerussia you are fighting a battle you can never win. At least in my life time I doubt you will ever see a "gun ban" in the USA. But we know that the United Nations has a program out there and their desire is a world wide ban on all firearms except those who belong to the police and military. If that is not enough of a wake up call I do not know what is. Banning guns will only turn law abiding citizens into criminals (criminals on paper) who do not want to surrender their firearms to the state. Do some of you people want history to repeat itself? Yes a canopy has a rather large surface area that can cause drag. Food Packets do not have the same surface area. But since some people here are all in favor of dropping things from the sky, do you care where they land? Do you want these packets of food landing in and around areas where buildings have collapsed? Do you want people scrounging through the rubble for their granola bars? I am no Haiti expert, but I understand Haiti has a very rugged hilly landscape. Not exactly the ideal terrain for air drops. Oh I know, the solution is so easy isn't it. Just gather all of Haiti's population into one of their big open flat fields and drop the granola bars to them there. But don't be surprised when hell can break loose and people are trampled to death. No I don't have all the solutions, heck I am not even trying to offer any ... except: I say let the military and aid agencies do their jobs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Geez how light are these packages you are speaking of? Even freeze dried food has some weight to it. It's one thing for a whuffo to be calling for things to be dropped from the sky, but you would think a skydiver would be aware of the consequences of gravity. There is no easy answer to helping the people of Haiti right now. Let the military and the other aid agencies do their jobs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Damn, so the Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Hawaii deal is off? Hmmm ... okay you play hard ball Robert. We will take Palin, I am confident Danielle Smith could whip Sarah Palin in a muddle wrestling match any day. The hockey mom contest will have to wait though. To my knowledge Ms Smith has not produced any off spring yet. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We are pretty anal up here in Canuckistan. Personally I think people would be much happier if the country split in two. 1) The leftists and marxists can go form their socialist utopian society where all corporations are outlawed and governments manage every aspect of your life. This is what the leftists and marxists want and they will never be happy until they get it. 2) People who want to live in a free market society can have the other half. There will be winners and losers as any capitalistic society produces. But at least people will still have their personal sovereignty and freedom from the state being in your bedroom. But the leftists and marxist will never accept this. They want 100% control of everyone's lives hence the reason why you need to tell them who your lovers are when applying for a PAL/RPAL. I still say parts of Western Canada and Western USA should break away to get away from the fools from Washington DC and Ottawa. haha Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Pat Robertson acting like, well, himself, again.
CanuckInUSA replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Could have been that. Or it could be because he's a kook. I do believe we need to respect people's religious beliefs (when they keep those beliefs to themselves). But Pat Robertson is just a kook. Before his alzheimers completely sets in, someone needs to explain to him that Haiti is located on the the Caribbean Plate and that the Caribbean Plate borders the North American Plate, the South American Plate, the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate. These borders are regions of intense seismic activity, including frequent earthquakes, occasional tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. How else did Haiti come to be? Does he think it was just created out of thin air? LOL But maybe good ole Pat believes that hell is located deep within the core of the Earth and if that is the case maybe Patty is right and we are the ones who are kooks. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I thought we went through all of this just a few short weeks ago. Have you already given up on evolution in favor of your new Climate Change Economic Sustainability religious beliefs? If you were for evolution you would believe that life on the planet will find a way to adapt to whatever changes occur and the other life which is incapable of adapting will become extinct. Contrary to what Al Gore is still preaching, life on this planet is not about to end any time soon. Question: when you are in the classroom, how much time is dedicated towards teaching the students the subject curriculum and how much time is spent trying to indoctrinate the next generation to buying into the new Climate Change Economic Sustainability cult? Want to check your rig? Pack it with a gun for safety!
CanuckInUSA replied to jdfreefly's topic in Speakers Corner
This story is brilliant. If what is being said is true, then it makes sense to pack a gun with your checked in rig. Too bad I can not carry firearms across the borders (since I am back in Canada and if I fly with my rig I am flying to the USA). One of my biggest fears these days is losing my rig to the airlines which we all know can cost each one of us thousands and thousands of dollars. If the airlines are adding extra tracking to checked in luggage with firearms this is a win-win scenario for everyone who fears losing their rig. There is an interesting video out there on YouTube (I can not access it right now) where a Sheriff from somewhere in the Western USA explains some of the tactics the anti-gun lobby groups use to scare the public on the big bad "Assault Rifles". I am sure all the regular DZ.COM gun folks know of this video and maybe they can post it if they like. What is an Assault Rifle? It is basically a fully automatic military tactical weapon which uses a completely different firing action than your standard recreational semi-automatic rifle. Too prove his point in the video, this sheriff takes a normal semi-automatic hunting riffle (it's a normal looking hunting rifle that does not scare the public), he breaks it down and begins to reassemble it using some different cosmetic components to the rifle (things like stocks, magazine, bi-pods, scopes, etc, etc). Once finished, this previous rifle that looked like a hunting rifle all of a sudden looks like a military assault rifle. But it is not. It is all cosmetic. Functionally it is still the same semi-automatic hunting rifle. So don't buy into everything you see as fact. I know if I ever do get my PAL and pick up a semi-automatic tactical rifle (no different than a hunting rifle), I will likely not want to show off the cosmetic looking 30 round magazine too much to non-gun people. These people might confuse this as a military assault rifle based on it's appearance where the laws here in Canada have pinned all magazines to carry only five rounds per magazine. In Canada you are breaking the law if your firearm is carrying more than five rounds at a time. Firearms can be used to kill people. But it is not the firearm that is doing the killing. It is the human using the firearm. Criminals do not register their weapons, criminals do not follow the laws. Therefore the gun registry in Canada is a joke. Farmer Ted who uses his firearm to kill predators on his land is not the guy running around shooting drug dealing gang bangers in the major urban centers. But many of these politicians want the public to be scared. It allows the politicians to go above and beyond in their desire to have and maintain power. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
I am afraid you are incorrect. Under the current laws, all firearms must be registered. Firearms fall under three categories "non-restricted", "restricted" and "prohibited" and their placement in these three categories often depends on the barrel length and/or whether they are automatic (all automatic firearms are prohibited in Canada). From the 22 caliber firearms on up, all hunting rifles, tactical rifles, shotguns and handguns fall under one of these three categories. What the Federal Conservatives are proposing to change in the gun registry is doing away with the need to register "non-restricted" firearms (commonly referred to as long guns since their barrels are fairly long and they can not be concealed under clothing). People will still need to register their "restricted" firearms and.due to their size all handguns are to remain classified as "restricted". Now if you are talking about BB guns or Air Rifles ... well you are arguing for the sake of arguing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Why are people not more angry at Wall Street?
CanuckInUSA replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
No America's collective greed caused the meltdown. Wall Street did it's part coming up with insane lending practices that were doomed to fail and the general public did their part not educating themselves on what they were getting into and taking on on more debt than they could handle. It was a collective partnership. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
It is true that what is written above was not 100% accurate on how the actual laws work. The infamous gun registry is not a registry of who is allowed to own firearms. But the majority of the public do not know the actual laws, so here is a politician trying to play down to the lowest common denominator. I like Danielle Smith, I think she has some great views on the issues, but I also know that she is a politician (or at least she is trying to be one). But because I am contemplating becoming a firearms owner, I have researched the laws and I am still on the fence waiting to see what happens in the coming months both with the registry but also with my personal financial situation (ammo is not cheap). Do you have your PAL or RPAL? If yes then you are allowed to own firearms. If no, then you must do the training first and then pass the appropriate exams before you are allowed to own firearms. So if what you say is true, you must have already done the training, passed your exams, completed the application form, completed any background checks the RCMP may have done on you and are now in possession a PAL and/or RPAL and you just have never bothered to purchase a firearm. Power to you if this is the case ... I do not have a PAL/RPAL so currently I am not allowed to own firearms. But the gun registry is still a joke. Criminals do not register their weapons. Hopefully this is something we can agree on. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Why are people not more angry at Wall Street?
CanuckInUSA replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
There is a lack of personal responsibility when people fail to recognize how much debt they should have reasonably take on. Just because the lender said "we will lend you XXXXXX.XX amount" does not mean it is smart to do so. We keep hearing people complain that the banks did this and that the banks did that (and yes banks are run by greedy slime bucket ####suckers). But the bank never forced anyone to sign on the dotted line. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
We don't need Palin, so I guess Alaska is off the books. Let's see ... how about Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Hawaii for Danielle Smith? Think about it Robert. You would then be one of us and we would be one of you and because of this we would end up keeping Ms Smith and in return you would be part of this new energy giant. Of course we would need to include portions of Saskatchewan (Like Alberta they have a lot of valuable natural resources) and possibly include much of rural BC. Haha you would be free from your clowns in Washington DC and we would be free from our fools in Ottawa. PS: I only include Hawaii because it's a warm place to vacation at. Hawaii is optional. Of course what does this have to do with Ms Smith's Firearms Policies? jaja Here is one thing I really like that she has to say: "Canada's gun registry is useless. The government has it backwards. We should not have a registry of individuals who are allowed to own guns; we should have a registry of those who are too dangerous to own guns”. makes sense to me ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
