I am not even an American. Johan. I am. I think.

Maybe you should read up on aerodynamics. A nice site is See how it flies; esp. read chapter 3 and try to understand the stagnation point. Johan. I am. I think.

In fairness, they do have more travel expenses, suffer from adverse exchange rates, and they're used to lower jump prices than we are. Still, it's a very nice boogie folks! Johan. I am. I think.

It also depends on the type of jump. Flying in close formation means you need some margin, which you take out of your glide. Johan. I am. I think.

What colors did you choose for your canopy & why?
JohanW replied to mattyblast's topic in Gear and Rigging
So YOU"RE the one who got the last one...the one that robbed me of getting one because I was a slow-assed dumbass in ordering. I hope you enjoy it, dog. Yep...that'd be me! That was a kickass deal and I almost passed it up too! I'm enjoying the shit out of flying her...NOT the packing of that slickassed bitch! Thank you for passing up that deal. One night I woke up at 2:00 AM and was like 'I got to get me one of those Tris. I'll regret it if I don't.' So I got one of the Tri 120s @ $700 -
Reserves must pass drop tests regardless of materials, design, or construction method. Elegance of failure mode is not one of the criteria. It may not be a certification criterion, but AFAIK it is a design criterion. I definitely recall having read that somewhere, but I can't immediately find a reference in Poynter's or on Google. Johan. I am. I think.

A rig with a skyhook (preferably an Atom, but with normal risers). Black with silver (OK, grey) and green highlights. I already have the Triathlon 120, green with two grey stripes, so I'd just add another canopy, possibly a Katana 120 though I'd demo a shitload of canopies first (Crossfire, Samurai, Cobalt, Demon, Nitro(n), Mamba, Blade and a bunch of crossbraceds), in grey with green and black stripes. Second canopy on its own risers, complete with bag, bridle and pilot. No need for a second rig, money to burn isn't a reason to actually do so. A PD low bulk reserve, probably a 143. Cypres 2. And I'd get a new wingsuit, black with grey and green highlights. No dream rig is complete without a wingsuit. That's what the Tri is for. (Well, that and recreational CReW.) I'd also buy a decent car, a bike and another lottery ticket. And move closer to the dropzone. But where can I buy the weather? Johan. I am. I think.

disclaimer: IANAR You might. Or you might want a small medium performance canopy. People I know are jumping wingsuits with a Velocity 90, Crossfire 99, Triathlon 120, Pilot 124. Not saying you should, or it's smart, or even it can be done, but it is done. Buy what you want to fly now (with an eye on resale value); trade-in or buy additionally (some people [gasp] have more than one rig for different disciplines) if, when and what comes up. Johan. I am. I think.

You mean we're tougher than Jackass ? WE ROCK! Oh wait .. tether. I don't think the pilot would like for me to tie a bungee between myself and the ground before take-off. That's out then. Back on topic: with even Atmonauti being done in tunnels, there's still also tracking .. and Crew. Downplane in a tunnel anyone? And maybe those 20-somethings could be swooped into an open tunnel at least? I'll get me coat now .. Does it really matter wether you're practicing RW in the tunnel or making a 1000 sponsored jumps per year swooping or wingsuiting for "unfair" advantage? Face it, we're weekend warriors. If you have to pay your own way, there are very few people that can make more than a handful hundred of jumps. Is that bad? The important thing is still to get to do it again. For that, you need to land safely. The amazing skills tunnel rats or factory teams have will do next to nothing for hundreds of thousands of landings (except for slight improvements in canopy technology) (I'm talking handling in turbulence here, not the ability to hammer into the ground at ever higher speeds). If the sport gains in popularity, it mostly means bigger airplanes, more people in the pattern, and look at Eloy what that gets us. Accuracy as a discipline is underrated. You can do it well past retirement. I have no hope of being Henny Wiggers someday, with his 12000 jumps. But I can aspire to be Gerard Warburg, with his 75 years. (Both are active jumpers at my home DZ.) But I concur with the OP's sentiment as well. We're an "honest" discipline. We don't even need lead (except for certain values of Yuri, of course) or tailored suits to adjust speed; we work with what we have to begin with. I like. Johan. I am. I think.

Very nice formations guys. Could you hold'em long enough for video or will it be the rendering that's going to take the rest of the month? Seriously, if that's the standard we're up against I have some training to do .. again. Flown more than three docked yet? Johan. I am. I think.

It's been posted. Search. Best way - probably fly to somewhere near and rent a car. There might be public transportation, but the Cochstedt airport is normally closed, and it's a tad remote. Alternatively, fly into Holland before and ride with one of the visiting Dutchies. Camping onsite is free. There are hotels and pensions in the neighbouring town, I've been told. More than enough. Several organizers for different group of wingsuits. Depends on which group you want to be in, really. As Jarno said 6 per day is realistic. What kind of jumps do you want to do? What kind of scenery would you like? There might be Wings over Marl again this year, but I don't know how they'll be spaced. Stupino might be doing something again. Keep an eye on Rolf's Birdman Tour, FlyLikeBrick's schedule and what James Boole (Unclecharlie) is doing. Johan. I am. I think.

I do it because I'm lazy I have no problem admitting that. But couldn't it also improve the airflow because your body is more straight while still maintaining an increased angle of attack as compared to trim without the weights? I'd like to think it's not just because I'm lazy Johan. I am. I think.

And you pack .. differently even

Gefeliciteerd Jarno. Best New Year's wishes to all. (Not a oneliner! Wheeeeee!) Johan. I am. I think.

Jump numbers before first wingsuit flight
JohanW replied to SkyDivinRyan's topic in Wing Suit Flying
500-odd Johan. I am. I think. -
Right, then do not jump at our DZ Usually tandems get out at 9k so all 12k jumpers are sitting behind them until then. If the tandems go to the same altitude as the rest, any AFF/wingsuiters are still behind them. When they say Cessna, they do not mean Caravans .. Johan. I am. I think.

It's winter. How much are you going to be jumping the next two months? Johan. I am. I think.

Normal jump prices in Holland are € 23-25 to 12000'. I checked, I made 12 jumps in three days, the avg exit altitude was more than 16000', all but one were from 15000' or higher, two of which from 18000' (still at the same price), with a flock my home DZ don't have, from a LARGE TAILGATE JET (which my home DZ .. ). From my uniquely personal perspective, it was money well spent. It was worth it to me. Johan. I am. I think.

PD Low Bulk Reserve - upsize your reserve or downsize your container?
JohanW replied to tdog's topic in Safety and Training
I know one jumper who has. She was backing up under reserve, and wished it was smaller. The correct wish is left as an exercise for the reader Johan. I am. I think. -
PD Low Bulk Reserve - upsize your reserve or downsize your container?
JohanW replied to tdog's topic in Safety and Training
I might downsize my reserve. I now have a 155 reserve and a 120 main, and I might go for a 143 reserve and a main container that's actually packed again. So yes, I'm opting for style. With a 143 reserve that's two or three sizes bigger than my main, I honestly feel I could do worse. Also, I have hundreds of jumps on low aspect ratio 7-cells. (Why do I have this nagging feeling I'm kidding noone here?) Johan. I am. I think. -
I didn't find it very funny - I have seen people break wrists that way. PLF, or slide, or stand it up. Not necessarily in that order of preference. But don't take the fall on your hands. Johan. I am. I think.

#1 - Spinning linetwists. Stiletto 150@1.4 -> Techno 155 #2 - Spinning linetwists. Stiletto 135@1.6 -> same Techno 155 #3 - Spinning linetwists. Diablo 120@1.8 -> same Techno 155 Landed broken lines on a PD 9-Cell twice. Have kept and fixed 5 twists on a Triathlon 120. H&Ps on a bungee pilot are not necessarily a good idea, either. Johan. I am. I think.

COOOL! (Sorry for the one-liner people. Had to let it out.) Johan. I am. I think.

And I guess at least 6000 of those 8000 were made on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, because the boogie didn't really get up to speed until Friday, and not even fully then. Back-to-back meant the plane .. I suspect next year will be all-out jumping starting Tuesday morning. And it's nothing like the WFFC - there is nothing but a Jet Johan. I am. I think.

That would be, uhm, 17½ 182s. Of course, since we're there for the twin jet thing, that would add up to 35 jet engines on those 17½ Cessnas. It sounds cool, it would also sound loud, but I'll take the AN-72 thank you very much. It has a (droool) tailgate. Jarno, will you animate me a twin jet -182 with a tailgate? Please? (Have you started animating the next year boogie video yet? ) Johan. I am. I think.
