Who's saving up for New gear this spring!?!?
novacaine replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not really saving just spending. I ordered a Spectre 190 two weeks ago eta mid March. And I ordered a Freefly suit. Eta mid march. just in time for the season opener!!! -
Hey everyone thanks for the info. I find it reassuring that I don't need the original box. Thanks everyone!!

The Cypres was shipped to me, in a padded envelope. I really don't know why there isn't a box either!

So I purchased a used Cpres1 (DOM 10/00) and just recieved it today, for my first rig!!! So I called up the rigger, to ask if he could ship it to SSK for me (as I have no idea where to start). The rigger asked if the Cypres came in the original box. I answered no, and he told me that SSK will not except the unit unless it is shipped in the box. Is the rigger just blowing smoke up my ass, or is what he said correct? Thanks everyone!!

This is awesome!! Now I can throw this artical in the faces of those Mormom coworkers of mine, that complain how drinking is bad. Well screw them now!!!

The biggest draw back to the tankless system is that something like 64oz needs to flush through the system before it started to heat up. I am a carpenter in Canada, and the trend with the three home builds I contract out to, are mving to this type of hot water system. Though it is an expensive start up cost, n the long run, it will save much money on both water cost, and natural gas fees. My plumber recently informed me the other day, that if you don't see the saves in the first 6 months, south is wrong with the unit.

Very nice camera! Like mentioned above it is extremely lighter then some of my other vid camera's (No I don't fly camerea... along ways to go before that happens.) Just wondering your thoughts about snag points? As most Sony prosumer line, I would think have line tangle written all over them. Thanks!

Please tell us CSPA members, Rob that your joking? As Hackish clearly doesn't have the recommended CoP that one needs to to take the Rigger "A" course.

Sory Sipi, but you as a whole can't help each party with the attitude that you have. Skydivers are the safest minded people I have meet. We are in love with life, not the "premature death" fanatics like you have mentioned in your other post. I would suggest talking with the DZ Operator. I am sure that they will listen to your concerns as safety for everyone is a top issue. Yet I would also suggest loosing your attitude about skydivers. I personally believe we have the same rights to be in the air as pilots do. So loose the attitude buddy!

Out of couriosity, how DOES a person get a Wings Discount voucher? As I am in the works of purchasing my first rig. (Yes I know that I should buy used gear first... but that should be left for another thread, as not to Hijack this one!!!)

I started my skydiving leasons from scratch this past season as it had been wayto long since I was skydiving. I brought my own personal gear I had from years ago. Which included Amber lens goggles. My instructor wouldn't let me touch them during all the jumps. For the same reason others have mentioned above. It is important to maintain eye comtact with those around you. Just my 2cents!

Back in July I fractured my back (L2 & L3), when I was hiking. I have had 2 surgeries since August. I recently asked my dotor about wither or not I would b able to scuba dive and skydiving. He informed me that skydiving shouldn't be a problem, just as long as I get a canopy that opened softly. (This information he gathered from reading FAA articles and asking this question to some ex military doctor friends of his.) Yet, surprisingly, he advised me that scuba diving would do more harm to my back then skydiving. Just my 2cents!!! Blue Skies

I hate ladders! I never feel safe on them. Yet, my misery is my coworkers enjoyment. As I work as a framer building houses. I know I don't understand it

Thank you for all the advice I have been given. I spoke with my buddy briefly, and I kind of see where he is coming from. He is at a point where he can't be around people that are drinking, because the temptation is too great for him now. Yet, I kind of agree with some of you, I think he can't polka. As he is only looking at the now. The AFF program he signed up to isn't until April. So I do hope that will give him enough time to fight his battle. As I disagree that you have to drink to be a skydiver. Thank you all!

For the last week I have been playing Skydive Radio in the truck on the way to work. I find that SDR has made my drive each morning awesome. I also pick up two employees of mine each morning, so SDR has started a few discussions about skydiving. As I am a fairly new to the sport. Having only made 30 jumps in the last 4 years and still no A license. As the jump season here is short and other committments come up. So I am unable to answer many questions that my employees ask me. Today one of the employees made a statement that kind of shocked me and I have yet to address his statement as I to do not have an answer for him. So I hope that I may get some feed back to be able to address his statement. The employees statement was "I would love to skydive, but as a recovering alcoholic I couldn't do it." Any thoughts and ideas how to address this thought? As I am at a loss here, and I don't want to discouage him from backing away from doing an AFF program next season like he was talking about late last week. Thanks!

I have recently purchased a Vector II/Rascial 202 (0 Jumps) for $200. Sure the Vector that 15 years old but it is in fine shape according to my rigger. I found this searching the ads right here on DZ.com . For me I don't care that the H/C is some ugly colour of teal. And doesn't match the main I will put into it. I don't care. For me, its all about being out there in the wind.

I have a FT50 Alti that needs to be calibrated and serviced. Though the problem I am running into is where does one go to have these instruments serviced? I have contacted the manufactor, but felt uneasy sending them the alti after an email I recieved. So where does one go from here? Maybe buy another altimeter? Thanks!

This kind of reminds me of a joke I heard! a chicken and an egg were lying in bed. the chicken rolls over and lights up a smoke. The chicken turns to the egg and says "Well we finally answered that question!"

I agree!! There are more failure points in scuba equipment. About 95% of these failure points the diver can't check until the anual servicing. (such as O-rings, High Pressure seats, oil/moisture in tanks too name the major causes.) In 15 years of diving I have seen many equipment failures. My worst was a double reg failures (2 first stages blew apart) in 250fsw. thank god for my dive buddy!

when I used to teach (DM rating), I suggested to my students to equalize their ears at the surface before submersing. This usually helps with any slight head congestion. If you have any problems in the ears ascend 10ft and try again, then proceed on the dive. Like skydiving, do gear checks prior to the dive. nothing sucks more then to splash in and decsent to 20ft, only to forget to hook up your drysuit. That sucks. Remember that the dive table are NOT suggested bottom times. Your acsent should not be faster then 30ft/min. Regardless of what your manuals say. (I found this out the hard way by the recompression doctor!!) Assuming your taking your course through PADI, once you have your Openwater cert, take future courses through NAUI or SSI. (As PADI stands for Put Another Dollar In.) Allows have dive insurance, even if your diving just around the corner from your house. most people feel they don't need it unless on a vacation. DAN offers this besides some other companys. hope this helps!

I agree with you. Warm water diving has never been my thing. Ice diving and cold water!! Better marine life and most importantly better preserved wrecks!! Nice Pics. That first one looks like the Saskatchewan. Have about 100 dives on that wreck!!! have you been to the Riv tow Lion? not a bad wreck but haven't dove it since a week after sinking her. I am hanging up my scuba gear after 15 years and switching to skydiving. It is the Saskatchewan and the other pic is from around 165 on Snake island wall. I have done the Riv Tow but wont go back for a couple years the wreck is too new it needs time for some life to grow. The Bretton is fun so is the Chaud' over in Sechell. BC has the best wall's ive ever been on. Sorry for the crappy spelling....too drunk for spell check Blue's Bill Bc has the BEST dives period! My two fav. dive sites is the Capilano and the Gulfstream. Two wonderful wrecks.

And all you warm water divers are sissy's.... blesed but sissy's The pic's are from Nanimo BC some of the best diving on the planet IMHO I agree with you. I did my FJC after loosing a bet with some friends. I enjoyed it some much I did two more jumps that same day!! Because of other obligations that I had with my job (in the scuba industry) I never really had time to jump. Five weeks ago I decide to retire from scuba, after 15 years, after yet another memorial service, this time for my mentor and best friend. I was looking for another sport which was safer to get into to fill my time. A friend of mine that works with DAN, suggested that I get back into skydiving as it is safer statistically then scuba. So here I am, a number of years later, being a student all over again and enjoying it. Just waiting to get in a bit more jumps before I talk with my instructors and coaches about my first rig!

I would personally stay away from Mares/Decor products. I have had nothing but problems with some of there equipment. Mares are NOT designed properly. I have tried every Mares reg on the market and have found that they have all free flowed. If your interested I am selling off all my scuba gear to afford skydiving. After working in the Scuba industry for the last 5 years and scuba diving for the last 15 years I have decided to give it up and try something new like skydiving. If you are looking for quality equipment look at Apeks for the regs. I have 4 sets of Apeks regs. They have taken me to hell (225feet) and back and still perform like they are new. the Mares BC looks like a death trap. Too many tanglies on the front. If your a wreck diving doing penatration dives I can for see major lines twist happening with this kit. the console looks like a bad design. I really don't know why manufactors do this. To have a compass mounted on the back side is an other death trap. If you have done any navigation dives, I may have noticed that when following a compass bearing, divers tend to start swimming an a angel. With evey kick the diver is either going deeper or shallower without even knowing it. Therefore, you can find yourself in troble either way. the best option is to looss both the compass and the depth guage. Keep only the SPG to the 1st stage. Invest in a dive computer wrist mount. And wear a wrist mount compass. much safer this way. do you really need two octopuss'? from examining the picture some more I noticed that the BC is equiped with an Air2 on the inflator hose. once again your spending more money for a piece of gear that is pointless having. What certs do you have and are they PADI? what type of diving do you want to do- Wreck/Nitrox (which is a must!!)/Deep air/ Cave? as your equipment needs will differ then that of this ebay auction. If your interested in doing wreck, cave or Deep Air one day go with a backplate and wings. As this is the only "BC" option for these types of diving. As these can handle several tanks at once. (My last dive I did I used 6 tanks) and yet you can use the same backplate with a smaller wing for single tank dives. Just my 2 cents. Nova

I used to be a a Sales Rep for Quickstyle Floors here in Canada. Laminate flooring now last longer then those of even 8 years ago. Laminate floors offer more color selection then Engineered flooring. It is tough to say which is better as these two flooring are designed for different purposes. (like comparing sabre 2's with Eclipses). Engineer floor can cost more then actual hardwood. It is advisable to use engineered if going on top of concrete slabs. since engineer flooring used wood veneer for the top coat it doesn't have to color choices like lam. If your installing to add value to a house that you'll be flipping then go with engineered. If not go with laminate flooring. You will be pleased with either choices. Though Laminate flooring is easier on the wallet and that means more beers and jumps!!!
