I am a fan of the Converse Chuck's! smooth bottoms, light weight and flexible. Plus they are easy to find in several colours to sort of mix and match to my jump suits!!

Turning them off has never been my problem LMFAO... the GF dumped me last night.... siting that I "have been only able to turn me off these past few weeks!!" So I hear ya there!

Samething happened to me at Vancouver Airport. My camera and lens came out and smashed the to the floor. Really pissed me off as, it cost me 3 days of shooting while I waited for replacement lens from UPS (overnight delivery my ass) This really didn't go over well with my business partners. Since then I have switched over a Pelican Case. Which I love. Sure it is a pain in the ass to haul around. But I can place all my cameras and Underwater housing in one case. Plus they are lockable, so I don't have to be constantly worried about my equipment. (Side note as I don't get flamed: I do only U/W photgraphy and Video. Though DZ.com is the oly place that has an excellent Vid/Phot forum. I am not planning on flying a camera for very long time. I have sen first hand the dangers of shooting vids underwater and I can't possible think of the dangers in Skydiving! Thanks!)

(Warning: Newbie Question) Can someone help me understand WHY the camera guy in this video, would deliberately fly into the cutaway canopy? It doesn't make much sense to me? Sure it was an interesting video, but I am at a loss for what the cmaera guy was thinking!!

So, in the next month, I am planning on getting my first rig setup. To which I am a little stoked about. I am just waiting for the cypres to come back from SSK, before I bring the rig for a repack. Though, I was talkng with the rigger at my DZ about getting a repack done in the next few weeks. And he asked me what reserve I had. I told him that the reserve was a Rascal 202 and it had come with my H/C. I am worried about his remark, which was "I never heard of it." So now I am wondering, if I ought to replace this with something newer before my cypres arrives. As if my riggers has never heard of the the chute, I have been wondering if that is an early sign that this chute is no good. What are your thoughts? Thnx! Edited for spelling!

what type of pilotchute handle do you have?
novacaine replied to highspeeddirt's topic in Gear and Rigging
That is why I vote twice, some of rigs I am jumping are either plastic or hackey. (Keep in mind that I am using student gear... if that makes a difference or not!) -
is this a good place to buy a complete rig
novacaine replied to MADPROPS's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First how many jumps do you have? From your other posts it appears that you haven't made a jump yet. If this is true, then I would suggest spenting the money on training and jumps. (ie PFF) Just something to think about, as most people will have about 50-75 jumps before jumping their own rig. -
I will second this! Great DZ with a good vibe and staff that is knowledgable and fun!

How did the storm handle in comparison to other 7 cells?

Have you considered lookiing at a Vertical Suit? I have a one piece FF suit from them and love it! Well built suit. Plus the suit is manufactured in Canada, so its nice to have my canadian money stay if canada (when ever posible!)

I have the same issue with my cypres. I cn turn in on, but can not turnit off. And the scary part is that it just back to me from SSK 2 weeks ago. Good luck

As individuals, what attracts one person to a sport, will not attract another person to the sport. When I look back on the fat that I skydive, I can't feel but laugh. As I have (and still do have) a fear of flying. Yet, it wa the freedom I felt while in the air was only comparison to scuba diving. Thoough, my gf who has one tandem, doesn't understand the attraction I have with skydivng. And yet, we agrue as she personally feels that I should quit jumping and start triathlon training with her. (Too which I really don't understand). So each person has there own "no desire" list. It is perfectly normal to have!

This must be truly excting for people from Saskatchewan. Though I wonder if Saskatchewan was choosen as you will always get the perfect spot, as it is so flat and nothing for miles!! -
Oil Shortage? Fine. Food Shortage, okay. But this? Oh, God NO!!!
novacaine replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
The glut sent prices plunging and caused farmers to plant fewer acres to hops. That included hops growers in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, the states that produce the commercial supply of US hops. I don't really understand this statement. With supply and demand, would it not be wise to plant more hops feilds? Since the demand is high, therefore farmers can ask a better price then that of the past. Or am I missing something here? -
I still believe that Arcteryx is about function and not solely on fashion. As Salomon offers wonderful functioning products for just about everything they make. Salomon is owned by Adiddas, which is also own for producing functional footwear. The difference IMO, is these companies understand the primary purpose of function. Whereas, Vogue tries to inflict the importance of Fashion over Function. Just my 2cents.

I few weeks ago a few gas stations by my place had signs saying there were out of gas. It is a bit scary to think that history is once again repeating itself. Though the sadder state of mind is that last year the big 5 oil companys had a profit of about 35B combined... must be nice to have that kind of income!!

I prefer Acyterx as this product is made in Canada (Though sadly not a Canadian Company any more ) As it is made in my back yard (sort of), I can say that it is well designed for the snow, the rain and warmth. I am a huge mountianeerer. So it is important for a product that will hold up well to the surrounding environment. And I am happy with Acyterx. I personally stay clear of Northface, as this company I feel has developed the name, but the products are now cheaply made. (Plus the fact that its Parent owner also owns Vogue Magazine. So Northface is more fashion then purpose.) Another company that I feel makes excellent products at an affordable prices is MEC. My tent is MEC and I love it. It is nice to have a spacious tent that wieghs only 2.5 lbs, especially when sitting in a tent for 4 days straight waitting out a storm, knowing that the tent will not blow apart!

Quote1.) What made you want to go skydiving > I lost a bet with some friends. For added insurance that I would do a skydive with them, my buddy invited a girl from one of my college classes, that I was interested in, and she happily agreed to make a skydive. So I was screwed either way. 2.) What did you feel prior to jumping out of the plane > I was scared beyond my wildest dreams. I puked the evening before the jump. And I puked in my buddies car on the way to the DZ and puke once more at the DZ. 3.) What was the free-fall like > I was too scared to remember... honestly. (I really dislike heights and flying) 4.) When you touched down how did you feel > I was over come with joy that I survived. And then I puked once again. 5.) Anything else you want to say about skydiving > Despite my fear of flying in an AC, words can not express the pure freedom I feel when making a skydive. (Could also be the fact that I no longer have to be in the AC!) Nothing else matters to me except for being in the air! Skydiving has allowed me the opportunity confront a fear and except it (kind of) as part of the joy of the sport. An experience that I truly have to say is almost spiritual for me. Hope this helps! reply]

first ALTIMETER after A license as a gift?
novacaine replied to dannydan's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had recently asked this same question to my rigger. His responce to the question was a bit of a surprise to me. He told me that an anolog alti was the best choice for noice jumpers, as it allows us newbies to learn to to read an anolog alti safely. The importance my rigger pointed out, was that digital alti has more problems and can die as a result of a died battery on any jump. If this happens and one needs to borrow an alti off someone, there is a higher chance that the alti is going to be an anolog one. If your not used to an anolog alti, there is a chance that one might panic while trying to find the needle! ** Keep in mind that I am a low jump # student. I am only passing off the wisdom and knowledge that a person I trust has provided me. To those with more experience then I please don't flame me too bad if ou disagree ** -
Man who lives in glass house gets changed in basement!!

I would second this. I jump in Teva sandals relatively often. And as much as I love them, chucks don't offer that great of ankle support. Something like this: http://skate.vans.com/SHOES/owens_hi.html might be a bit better. Oh God what an awful colour!!
