She'll be glad to hear they still remember her. She's in NM now. (quit jumping 2-3 yrs ago). I didn't hear the stories until couple years ago when I was up there. She apparently had either a complete disregard, or trouble keeping track of, altitude. mmmmm... Good or Bad? I'd have to say a LOT of good, w/ just the right amount of bad that spiked over the line occasionlly.

If everybody lived, I would suggest they get back together and figure out why. That is the only way anything positive will come of this. This is the MOST sensible response so far. Great idea that should be followed by those particpants. IMO

Plan Ahead: Just as you plan your skydive, plan what your going to do once your under canopy. ("I'm going to stage here. I'll start downwind at xxx Feet, etc.."). Note the wind direction as you board the aircraft. Remember it may change! Plan for contingencies: Since things do go wrong it's always nice to have a contingency. This can be as simple as, "If I can't make it back, I'll find the biggest area I can reach, and aim for the middle". THINK Ahead: Once you get under canopy, think ahead as to what your going to do. Don't get backed into a corner. Check the current ground winds as quickly as you can. Watch canopies below you. (assuming they're not doing intentional downwinders). Feet & Knees together, kness slightly bent. Do a complete flare and keep those hands in. PLF! PLF! PLF! PLF! Have Fun. Be Safe.

This came from a list of team names we had compiled and Cyndi pointed to that one our first day and we started using it. The more we used it the more we liked it. Add the meaning and most want to keep it. Apparently Brad was reading a book about some mob in New York, (I don't know what book, sorry), and if you pissed off the mob really bad they would send some very unpleasent people to visit you who would do things like pull fingernails, toenails, or stick needles in your nerve endings, or peel your skin off while you watched. There's going to be a 20way competition the weekend of October 12-13th at Skydive Spaceland. Spaceland has Deguallo (sp?) and OtterLimits16. The Turkey Doctors from Skydive Houston are planning on attending, although I'm losing 4-5 team members to the POPS record attempt that same weekend. Anybody else? Wow, that's a big flag! I thought you were talking about hanging it behind you under canopy. My suggestion is to talk to locals that have done this type of thing before, (S&TA, "Old farts", etc...). Thats right, skydiving may result in serious injury or death. So your going to push someone who doesn't feel right leaving the plane? You mention S/L. Are you also an AFFI ? Or do you just call em whiners and push em off the step? I for one know how bad things can get with students UP CLOSE in the air, and later while I'm trying to talk them down via radio, and I'm not compounding that by taking someone who tells me they're not ready to go. Believe it or not, they actually know themselves better than you. And did you ever stop to think that the dude your friend whacked in the balls might have done better had he been allowed to step away from the door and try again later? I think it's BS. (my opinion) When a student tells me they're scared, I tell em that just proves that they have brains. Totally unprofessional and downright mean to call a Level 1 a 'baby' because they're nervous and back out. I believe if it doesn't feel right, don't do it. Good Post. I do this on a consistant basis, as everyone should, because I do remember those that jumped with me. I make it a point to tell my AFF students to grab me once they're off student status and if I'm not busy (which seems to be more common nowadays ) I'm game for some jumps. On the flip side, those of you who are 'new', don't be afraid to go up and ASK if someone wants to do a skydive with ya. Regardless if you've never seen them or they are the high timers at your DZ. At the worst, they can say "NO F^*&in way". Lot's of times they'll say "Sure". And if they say they can't, don't take it personally, they may have already committed to something else, or just not feel like jumping now. Ask again some other time, unless you KNOW they just don't like you. In which case continue to ask just to bug em. Added Bonus: Jumping/coaching with those of fewer jumps not only helps them out, but also improves your flying and teaching abilities. And I'm going to add 1 more thing - If you see a jumper who is obviously visiting the DZ standing there just looking around, be sure to go up and say "Hi" and if they've got nothing going, try to get em someone to jump with.
