X-Fire2 front riser pressure
kansasskydiver replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yep I always set up my approaches with outs in mind but had never had to use them before. This is the time I'm glad I had south, and east completely open for me to abort to -

If money was no object what would you do with 1 million dollars?
kansasskydiver replied to Kiki's topic in The Bonfire
oh wait the correct answer is, invest in an ira, after a year withdrawl the money you earned in interest (about 39% last year) and buy everyone who I know and is nice to me a new rig -
Have you flown a Comp Cobalt

I'm starting to notice a trend though in the responses on the canopy performing well. Highly loaded it seems to work like a dream, not highly loaded it doesn't work as intended. Could this be some of the same issues as experienced with larger x-braced canopies and terminal openings? -

I got rid of it a long time ago and bought a Xfire2 instead that I can do whatever I want to it and it won't open hard, and Icarus stands behind their products instead of just making excuses and telling me I'm doing something wrong and that all their canopies are god. Again as I've pointed out, the Cobalts seem to be a great canopy, for those lucky enough to get one that does exactly what they say. I'm just saying that I have yet to meet an average joe with a lightly loaded cobalt that doesn't slam them... maybe it's the just the air in kansas or something, but all the pros rave the canopy and talk it up, but what I got was NOTHING like it, I wasn't the only one packing it either just to see if I was doing something wrong -

Pay off my debt, invest part, spend some, give the rest to others who need it and or loan it out -
I'm the Chris Armstrong and Byron is in Germany. Do you know Byron? And were you around Kingman when they dug him a grave?

Got a phone call about this today asking if I had heard anything about it. Apparently some guy went to the city airport (not the dz btw) and hired someone to fly him around. At some point he just jumped out... Suprised I haven't gotten more emails or calls about it as it goes thru the grapevine about someone jumping outta a plane

kansasskydiver replied to bobsled92's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
could it be that the demo canopy i had was ragged out and out of trim? Anyways, not trying to start another big discussion on Atair, you can read the link I posted above to see what others thought of it and their problems as well, but it seems to be the HIGHER the wingloading and or the sponsor canopies never open hard, but the larger ones just beat the living crap outta people -

ya must have been one of the lucky ones to actually get a canopy that worked like that said it would. Wish my experience had been the same, and the experience of about 5 others I know -

If it's supposed to open softer then I would have hated to have seen what a normal one opens like! And no the flies bigger refers to the fact that a 150 isn't actually a 150. It's a 164 or something like that. Just remember, dump in a track (yeah right) buy a smaller pc (yeah whatever) and don't grab yoru rear risers (uh huh) so why do I have to modify how I skydive for one canopy that isn't all that? I bought a Xfire2, don't have to dump in a track, didn't have to modify my OEM pc and can grab the f*ck out of my risers and it stills opens better than that thing had ever dreamed of -
X-Fire2 front riser pressure
kansasskydiver replied to kansasskydiver's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
no, most people find them to be a tad long (even with using the front risers). later oh yeah the brake lines are a good 4-6 inches too long. I need to have it adjusted, i use rear riser or take just a half kinda wrap in the toggles when i need the extra flare. I'm still figuring out the canopy but I foudn it very odd that I had to abort because of high riser pressure not allowing me to keep in a turn -
QuoteMore importantly, educate your pilots and others(tandem masters, AFF Instructors) about the exit oder and the Birdman flight plan. Welcome to the flockQuote Thanks for the welcome It is going to seem like a long road being the first bm at the dz and I only have 1 jump so I'm no expert either. I'm going to bring in a couple more experienced jumpers to talk with the pilots. We don't have a big problem with exit order hehe we're just a 182 dz and not very busy. Any advice from anyone about bringing the suits to the dz for the first time?

I wrote a review of my demo comp cobalt let me find the post and you can read what myself and many others thought of it. Overal, I was NOT very impressed in the end Comp Cobalt 2 week review -
So does the DZ have to buy me a case of beer for being the first to ever fly a wingsuit over the crisp air of our dz? It'll be rough at first I'm sure but by having me jump the suit and being one of Geoff's close friends and origonally against wingsuits after his accident, it opened everyone's eyes. Again I can't thank SM1 and Superwoman enough for opening my eyes to what really happen and helping me take the leap. I'm sorry I held out one everyone and prevented the flights at our dz when and if any have wanted to within the past 3 years. We will have some guidelines we'll follow to keep everyone safe and hopefully prevent any accidents. We're going to follow the bm recommendations and require that anyone who wants to fly a suit has received proper training before just showing up and wanting to jump
