  1. Update: I saw Paul yesterday afternoon. He's still out, but they're reducing the sedatives. He reacts to some stimuli, like when they suctioned his lungs (routine), he spasmed a bit and kicked his legs. Jenny and others also saw some eye movement. His vitals are all good. They were slowing the ventilator a bit. SpO2 is around 99%. He's had a couple units of blood. In addition to the injuries I listed, he also has some damage to the left orbit (bone structure around the eye), and the back of his head. Jenny just called and the nurse told her that he moved his hand towards his trachea, so the had to up his sedatives a bit to make him behave. Good sign, though. Visitors are limited to those on the access list (mainly family), partly because they know skydivers all have a bazillion friends, and partly because there was a big driveby shooting in SJ today and 7 people got hit and there are 2 "John Does" in ICU. Security is pretty tight so hold off on visits and flowers for now. Vibes are always welcome... Bluer skies Peter (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  2. Thanks, Chris, and everyone for posting, PMing and emailing. You're right, it's been a rough couple years. This time though, we're gonna win. o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

  4. Paul Megison was in a car accident sometime after midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning. He was found 1-2 hours later and airlifted to SJ Medical Center. He is currently in ICU with broken ribs, broken jaw, fractured c-spine and multiple cuts. The c-spine doesn't seem to be that bad and didn't damage the spinal cord. His lungs had been collapsed, so he is now on a ventilator. He was also on a brain monitor, which showed good brain activity. His vision appears to be good. He has made some hand movements. He remains under heavy sedation. Since he is in ICU, visitors are limited to family at this time. Prognosis looks good for full recovery. Please keep him in your prayers and send good vibes. Please pass it on to all of Paul's friends not already on the list. Anybody who wants to be added to the distribution directly, please PM me. I'll send updates as I get them, including more info on visiting and where to send cards, etc. I'm getting tired of this stuff happening, but at least we're going to win this one. 5. I used to have the same problem with a bunch of Marines who thought it was appropriate to jog through my residential neighborhood signing their Marine songs at early hours on the weekend. Usually I wasn't there (already gone to the DZ), but on the occasional day off, I liked to sleep in. At least these guys had the decency to wait until 9am instead of 8 like your "friend". 6. Ain't he sweet? But what's that in his hand? (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  7. Can't be HH - his face is showing. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  8. Chop Tim Daughters' Icarus EXTreme into little teeny pieces prior to July 5th, 2002. No guarantee he'd still be alive, and it's not the only way to change that day, but it would break the chain of events. I should have ditched mine sooner, too, but I wouldn't change that because if I didn't have my accident I would probably have lost my mind and broken up with Steph at some point, and I wouldn't be married to her and we wouldn't have Kira. 9. Google AYBABTU Google badger (Specifically the second link) Googlefight badger vs. aybabtu Googlefight "All your base" vs badger (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  10. All your badger are belong to us. You have no mushroom. Make your snake. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  11. Sabre is older. Sabre2 is newer. The less obvious simple answer is Sabre2 flies like a Sabre, only more so, but opens like a Spectre (i.e. far less likely to slam you). Or you could just go to the PD web site... (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  12. Is that Jonathan Tagle? If so, could somebody please have him PM me? Thanks Peter (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

    Lasix?

I had LASIK in '97. Best $4200 I ever spent. Of course it's way less now. In response to opthalmologists who have so many LASIK horror stories: Of course they are going to talk trash about it. They COMPETE with it. As for PRK vs. LASIK: PRK requires each eye done separately ~6 months apart, because the recovery is way longer per eye. I only know two people with "bad" experience. One had a blood cell or clot or something trapped under the flap. They simply opened the flap and cleaned it out. The other case was my sister whose procedure was a "failure" merely because she didn't achieve the desired correction of 20/40 or better. Give it at least two weeks before you jump. 14. Somebody I've known since the '70s. That's the claim, but I have my doubts. I think some of it is sorta true, but the stories are skewed. Some of it I have a real hard time believing. The person in question is quite the drama queen. That's certainly true. I have no idea what you're saying here. Not sure what you're saying here, but it sounds like my question was vague. That's OK. We deal with it. Thanks (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  15. Hello? Speed is a ratio of distance versus time. Speed and time absolutely have a LOT to do with each other. Have you ever noticed that speed is indicated in such units as miles or kilometers per HOUR, meters or feet per SECOND, and (rarely) furlongs per FORTNIGHT? He wants to finish with a certain average speed. That means he must cover the distance in a certain time. By specifying a distance and speed, you infer a time. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  16. Where in the problem does it mention a time limit? It doesn't. "How much time" is the question YOU have to ask to figure out the answer. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  17. Pearl Jam - Black Several songs from The Cure come to mind, including Pictures of You Alanis Morrissette - You Otta Know or Uninvited Bonnie Raitt - Love Letter (read the lyrics...) Cyndi Lauper / Roy Orbison / Celine Dion - I Drove All Night Def Leppard and Flock of Seagulls both have a Photograph and nothing else and spend their lives just wishing. The first two were on the "I Got Dumped" mix I used to play a long time ago. Apparently, I'm not the only one. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  18. Think about it this way: Forget how much distance he has left. How much TIME does he have left? Basic formula for speed: v=delta d / delta t so for time t=d/v He wants to go d distance at v speed. He's already gone (.5 x d) at (.5 x v). Time he needs to complete the race at the goal speed is: t1 = d/v Time he's already used is: t2 = .5d/.5v the .5's cancel out so t1 = t2, so he's used up all his TIME with half the distance to go. The DZ example is great. Say it's 100 miles from where you live to Hollister, where there's boobies, jumping, boobies and jumping, beer, boobies, boobies and beer (in that order) waiting, but they'll only wait an hour. You need to average 100 mph to get your beer, boobies and jumping (not in that order). Bonebrain asshat traffic in SF and the Peninsula has you stuck at 50mph for the first half of the drive, clear down to yuppieland Los Gatos. How long did it take to get 50 miles at 50mph? How much time do you have left to get to H-town? Mmm that beer is good. And what a great day of jumping! And look at all the boobies. Where's AndyXXL? He said he'd be here, the flake. Who cares? More for the rest of us. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  19. It's carefully guarded by Martian Weapons of Mass Destruction. Apparently, the leaders of Mars used them on the planet that used to orbit between Mars and Jupiter. All that's left is a pulverized asteroid belt. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  20. I'm sure some would rather you set up the camera first, preferably on a tripod, roll tape, then play with yourself. If you could arrange webcam broadcast, that would be even better. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  21. Sounds great, but many clinics and centers are against any form of donor compensation or reward since they fear it may encourage those who think their need for compensation is more important than the risk they cause to the blood supply by being less than truthful when answering screening questions. For example, I've been deferred due to extensive time in Europe consuming beef and dairy products from the US military commissaries. Some of these products were sourced in areas since found to have cases of mad cow. It really sucks since I used to give several times a year. I even made a "withdrawal" when I earned my nickname, and want to keep paying it back. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  22. Oh, come on. Smoking kills when you do it right. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  23. What does it say about people who think they were abused but really weren't? No, I'm not talking about myself. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  24. Yeah, get the multi card reader. That way you can use CF when you eventually switch to it. For now, I have a USB mem stick only reader you can borrow. Go to Hollister tomorrow and I'll bring it. We'll bring Kira too, and you can get your baby fix. Peter (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
  25. more than a few , Peter. LOL Yeah, I was going to say something like "(c) 2000 Treetop / Lord of the Skies @ rec.skydiving" but I couldn't remember for sure who actually coined the phrase and when, an I was too lazy to look it up. I figured you and livendive would be the only people here to catch the reference. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
