  1. I would like to follow this up by saying.... If a competitor is required to pay a fee to compete, then there should be a prize. If it costs $25 per competitor just to set up the course and hire judges, then I'd rather spend $50 so there would be $25 going toward prizes. Other wise most people would just spend the $25 on a couple extra jumps. When I ran competitions I bought all the supplies myself and got volunteer judges and all the entry fees went directly to the winners. 2. I voted yes, because I love swooping and would compete no matter what, but I still believe that there should be cash prizes. 1st of all, competition isn't as exciting if there is nothing to win. Now some say the experience is enough, but I disagree. Personally I like to see all the regional prize money to go to the top qualifiers for the nationals. This gives them money to travel so they can compete. I also like the idea of large cash prizes for the nationals. This gives the competitors a reason to travel and helps them afford to go pro. Going pro requires a lot of travel. If there were HUGE money in Pro swooping, then maybe just the experience would be enough, but realistically, nobody is going to get rich as a swooper, so being paid as an amature just keeps the interest in it alive. I've run swoop events and people just weren't interested if there wasn't something to win. Experience wasn't enough for them to commit the time and expense toward the event. By the way, I won my region last year, but I spent a lot more than I won. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."

  4. Here is an interesting story. I know of one AFF instructor who got knocked out when the student kicked him at opening. His Cypres fired and he woke up on the ground. He'd be dead if it wasn't for that cypres. Here is the interesting part. He sold his gear and the dropzone bought the cypres and put it in a Student rig. 2 years to the day that it saved his life, it missfired. Luckily only the pilot chute came out at about 500 feet The student had been under her main since 4000 ft. TRUE STORY!!!! 5. Ok, although not a technically a jump ship, I'd jump out of it. Here is a link to the coolest paint job I've ever seen. http://cellar.org/printthread.php?t=7154 David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  6. I feel honored to have gotten my AFF rating from him just a month ago. I can't believe that incredible man is gone. Man that guy could tell a story. It was hard to get a word in when having a discussion with him. So here's a moment of silence for you Don. Blue Skies brother. 7. It sounds silly but the best way to clean your screen is to put scotch tape over it and then take it off. It pulls off all the dirt and finger prints and doesn't leave a residue. Try it, you'll be surprised how well it works. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  8. Thanks Derek. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."

  10. I'm moving to Las Vegas in November for 6 months and was wondering if anyone can tell me about Skydive Mesquite. It seems to be the only experience jumper DZ close to Vegas. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  11. Actually, the colors are not the same. The teal stripes have been replaced with Yellow stripes. The photos Steve posted are 2 years old when it 1st arrived here. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  12. Hey, What happened to my good swoop pic? I don't always chow. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  13. After a long wait, the water for Mile Hi's Go Fast Swoop pond has officially been turned on and it's filling nicely. I'm estimating that it'll be full by Sunday at Noon. I'm swooping what ever is in it tomorrow though. David David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  14. Smaller canopies are cooler. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  15. Actually it's a 90. PD doesn't make a Velocity 94. I had a great time. Looking forward to the National competition. The Density Altitude shouldn't be as bad in September, but it's still going to be fast. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  16. He Highlighted this... I don't know why though. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  17. I think you were definately performing better than everyone else. You just got unlucky in a couple of rounds. David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  18. Grant, I look forward to competing against you at the next comp. It was kind of a Shallow Victory considering you (my nemisis) were not there, and I wasn't swooping my best. I verted a gate for the 1st time in the competitions which really bothers me. I would also like to thank everyone, especially Lyle who granted me a re-jump do to me having to abort my 2nd accuracy round do to traffic. I believe I would not have taken 1st if I were forced to take a zero on that round. I'm looking forward to tearing it up on the pond next time. 19. Did anyone actually see this. I had someone tape the show and they said it never aired. David David "Socrates wasn't killed because he had the answer.......he was killed because he asked the question."
  20. Don't just take my word for it. Take Brian Germains. 21. I've got about 2000 tandems and don't think anyone should be doing the sink and surge in turbulant conditions. We were probably all taught that flying your canopy in half brakes in turbulent conditions was the thing to do, but they were wrong. It's becoming very apparent to most experienced canopy flyers that you want to fly your canopy at full speed to keep it pressurized. When your in brakes with your canopy you are closer to the stall speed. If it gets turbulent your asking for it to stall. I don't ever do the sink surge. I do a turn onto final to build up speed, just like I would my HP canopy. Speed equals lift and I get great landings. On windy or turbulant days I just fly straight in and no aggressive turns high. 22. I've had the same problem. To Conceptus' credit though, they replaced the switches twice at no charge. That was great, but what they really should do is fix the problem or just send out 3 for the price of one. 23. I've got a couple of me, but I'm not putting them up because I look too good. You'll all be jealous. Actually, I was given some of me by Joe but he asked that I not post them anywhere yet. Todd had a few good ones of us. I'll see if I can get him to post them. He had a great one of Angry Face.
