  1. I've been in town for about a month now, figured I'd see if any of the locals wanna meet up. Drop me a PM if you want some ground crew or just wanna hang out. cavete terrae.
  2. The111 for president! YOu've got my vote cavete terrae.
  3. As a newer, lesser experienced jumper, I'm going to go ahead and note that as soon as the FAA starts jumping up everyone's ass, the sport is going to lose a lot of the appeal. The United States government in general, and the FAA in particular, have a long track record of showing they don't know what the fuck they're doing, and it's generally bad to be associated with anything they shine their eyes on. cavete terrae.
  4. I'm a 1.2 wingload on my reserve, and I have no intention of doing either. Why? Because they've flat out said the new reserve fabric isn't as strong. cavete terrae.

    active skydivers

If I had to make a completely out of the blue guess, I'd put it around 50,000-75,000.. maybe less. By "active skydivers", I'm defining it as people who are either actively seeking a licence, or are licenced and still jumping. The one-off tandem kids aren't in that # cavete terrae.

    Hello from 2007!

2006 is for LOSERS! Happy new year, fockers! cavete terrae.
  10. Never one that ended poorly, but I had one that scared the shit out of me. I was just learning to swoop and threw down a fairly solid 90-to-double fronts. Just as I was planing out, some little kid who was watching ran out in front of me. I kinda carved away from her at a hard angle and set it down safely. My hands were shaking BADLY for a bit after that. I do, however, wish I had video cavete terrae.
  11. I've had two chops. One is kinda "meh": Jump #56, Eloy. Went out, did a little freeflying, pulled. Canopy spun up and put me on my back. I dicked with it for a few seconds and checked alti, saw it going past 2,000. Hard deck is 1,800, so I spent another second or two and punched out, looking at my one remaining line twist as I punched the cutaway handle. If I'd pulled a little higher, I'd have been landing under my main. I was not, however, willing to violate my functional canopy hard deck. I was absolutely amped for the rest of the day, although pissed off. It didn't scare me until about a day later when I did my next jump, and even then it was sort of a passing nervousness on the ride to altitude. Jump #110, Luverne, MN. Went out with one of my former instructors do help him with his sit (that's a laughable concept) on his 500th jump. Went flat at 4,500, pitched at 3,000. My normally soft-opening canopy brightened up my day with a BANG, I bounced my chin off of my chest and bit my tongue. Looked up at my canopy, saw some HMA trailing in the wind and a blown cell. Just as I thought "Wow, I can't believe it's even flying straight", the canopy apparently had the same realisation and went into a spiral. Didn't think twice, punched out and landed the ol' 7 cell. That one just made me angry since it was in the middle of my home DZ's boogie cavete terrae.
  12. Not entirely sure what to make of that yet. Can't say I think it's going to help anything. cavete terrae.
  13. You've got red on you. cavete terrae.
  14. I've thought that several times since 9/11, too, but I don't know how I would react under such circumstances. Of course, if the only weapons they have are the plastic forks and the dodgey fish selection from the in-flight menu, then I think it's not likely a very difficult decision, though. Anyone with an IQ on the right side of the bell curve could get a weapon on an airplane. The screening just keeps the short bus terrorists out. cavete terrae.
  15. Not true. Done it under the normal rules (you have one hour, and have to keep it down for 15 minutes after you finish), and made $280 as a result of it. Wasn't worth it though. Made myself puke after 16 minutes of holding it down and didn't shit solid for a while. Farts smelled like death. Didn't eat for a day after. cavete terrae.
  16. http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/transformers.html I'm still not happy with Michael Bay at the helm, but.... he might redeem himself in my eyes cavete terrae.
  17. Yesterday I saw 3 different stores that still had them I paid 60 bucks for my nintendo 64 and that came with 2 controllers and 3 games What's scary is that N64 games were $80-100US when they were new. THank Xenu we've moved to cheaper storage media for games. cavete terrae.
  18. This is like watching a monkey use tools for the first time. He keeps making this face: followed by when he dies Nintendo hit the jackpot with these things. I'm gonna have to have him try the sports pack, watch him play tennis and stuff cavete terrae.
  19. Well done, you slack bastards. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1569514,00.html cavete terrae.

  21. I'm staying and not quitting, just on a hiatus while I wait for my canopy. Hopefully in the air on the 26th or so... we'll see. cavete terrae.
  22. You're just jealous that I'm the first person to funnel airspeed without being in freefall cavete terrae.
  23. I can call in some jokes if you'd like cavete terrae.
  24. The airshow was in British Columbia, so if I had to take a guess, I'd say they were trasversing Alaska. cavete terrae.
