  1. will need to consider getting an audible at some stage soon part A - any advice on whether there is an audible that could give you real time feedback on how well you are tracking? (thought I'd read about something like this in the past) Perhaps this would be too much of a distraction (i.e. re safety) however the concept is appealing/interesting... part B - if there isn't such a device, or if it's not recommended for novices, any advice re an audible/logger that would be useful in getting some sort of stats on how well one's tracking is going, but that you review after the dive? I'm assuming you'd need something that saves a continuous stream of data, not just give you the averages for the overall dive. Perhaps fall rate over time? Altitude & position over time would be ideal, but not sure if there are any such devices? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  2. I'm learning to fly the circuit at full drive. I've noted in an older parachuting video they are teaching flying the circuit (e.g. downwind/base etc) in 1/2 brakes (pretty sure it was half brakes, it was definately partial brakes) Any comments on this? Is the standard approach these days across the world for students to fly circuit at full drive/toggles up? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  3. Yeah. I'll ask next time I'm out there. If u see my "number of jumps" it hints at why I've been concentrating on the fundamental stuff so far when I'm out there.
  4. oh, so it actually fits inside the helmet? you didn't need an external mount on your helmet then? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  5. Just interested...haven't seen one yet and I was googling. Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  6. @JohnRich - this is exactly what I was pondering - perhaps a bit of a lean forward (eg 45 degrees) is slightly better then? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  7. would be interested to see a video of a ProTrack working (hearing the audible alerts etc) - haven't actually been able to find one yet? Anyone have a link to a Video (or audio) of the ProTrack in use/demonstration? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  8. something I haven't remembered to ask at the dropzone when I was there.... Is there an optimal angle when you jump out of a plane at 14000 to best go into a stable freefall? When we practice we pretty much jump out of the practice area pretty much vertical, noting the wind is horizontal pretty much at that point I guess. Just wondering if, in a perfect world, should you be jumping slightly forward? say at 45 degrees as opposed to 90 degrees? or perhaps it doesn't matter too much? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  9. good explanation - thanks - for the purpose of some mucking around I found the formula's at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall in the "Uniform gravitational field with air resistance" section wasn't too bad. That is, it covered at least the difference between the initial 10 seconds until terminal speed is reached ok. Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  10. so people want to fly slower here? I heard from my instructor they try to fly faster for better control but that was probably for belly flying I guess... Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  11. agreed - what do you think the terminal speeds are for the various forms of skydiving - so far I've found.... * belly flying - 55m/s = 122miles/hour * freeflyer - 90m/s = 200miles/hour * headdown - ?? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  12. actually found what seem to be reasonable formula's at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall in the "Uniform gravitational field with air resistance" section. Just need to find out CD is the drag coefficient for different styles of skydive now I think Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  13. thanks but unfortunately these don't seem to take account of wind resistance/terminal velocity or style of skydive Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  14. thanks guys oh re the video I get "This video has either been removed from Facebook or is not visible due to privacy settings" a video of a skydiver docking on a wingsuiter would also be very cool to see...I'll google around...but if you have a link to one of these I'd be interested Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  15. Anyone know a link to a freefall formula? What I'd be interested in is one that is like: height = function of (time) But also has a way to change a parameter/constant or whatever to change the formula for basic belly flying, head down, free fly etc. So the formula would have to take account that in the first 1000 feet it takes longer too, as speed builds up. 16. just curious - you see the skydiver on wingsuiter in rodeo style videos - how do they get into this position? Like do they jump out with the skydiving holding the wingsuiter? If not is a wingsuiter able to hold their arms/legs in and match a normal skydive fall rate until the skydiver docks? cheers Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  17. Did my AFF stage 5! Got let go for the first time...very cool. i was stable overall but I was feeling some amount of small wobbling, and I was noticing one leg go up a little high and then the other. Not sure if this minor wobbling is normal or just me as a learner? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  18. would be interested in hearing whether it does take a conscious effort to stay in a stable arch? Or whether once your in the stable arch, can you just relax into it after which you'll continue to be stay in it? In other words will the stable arch always require some dedicated use of muscles to stay in it so to speak? [I'm just done AFF stage 3 - got a little unstable at one point in the last jump - not too bad, but told I need to remember to arch more in this case - plus legs were tending to be too bent] Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  19. I'm pretty sure the student rigs I'm using in AFF don't have an RSL release come to think of it. So no doubt these are situations I shouldnt worry about for the moment? I see the risks were "slight"? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  20. I don't quite follow why the guidelines include disconnecting the RSL prior to main cutaway in a side-by-side? Can someone fill me in on this? That is, if the reserve is already out does it really matter in this case pulling the reserve handle? http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section5/tabid/168/Default.aspx Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  21. thanks - excellent info - amazing that through this site I can get feedback from you guys who are actually flying wingsuits - I'll keep wingsuiting as my "light at the end of the tunnel" goal for somewhere quite a bit further down the track... Anything I can do as I go through the AFF program and then the first couple of hundred jumps that could start preparing me for wingsuiting in years to come? I'm keen to do tracking dives once I'm up to that after the AFF program. There's nothing else between basic freefall/tracking and a wingsuit flight is there? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  22. I've been reading a bit about wingsuiting & some of the latest safety improvements. For example that the Tony Suits can now allow one to just stretch the arms out to grab toggles. Just wondering if the "200 jumps in the last 18 months" pre-requisite might lower in the future? Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
  23. Hi, Wondering if there a safe/helmet/camera for a beginner that would be safe? That is one that I could wear during my AFF training even and just capture some basic video (quality doesn't have to be perfect). Ideally at the lower price end. I understand wearing the big cameras/helmets requires a lot of experience, so what I'm asking here is there any helmets whereby the camera would be flush mounted so well it would be deemed not to be a risk for a beginner. If so what what brand/model recommendations to have a look at? (if not then I'll leave well alone until I have much more experience) Parachutist Game IOS Android YouT
