  1. I have a taste for good wine but I get a Bota Box 90% of the time.
  2. And water. I don't think we're making honest statements about the effect of the excess or absence of water, oxygen or CO2. Plants would also benefit from higher levels of water, they would cease to benefit at a certain level, they would die at a higher level, they would also die at higher temperatures. These are all things you understand.
  3. I disagree. There's no other time like when you just got done with high school to continue academics. That's not to say to get a degree in some bullshit, if you're doing well in school then do the college thing. It's money in the bank and never in your life will you be able to pursue the quality of college undergrad degree that you can straight out of high school. If you're not doing well in school then join the military and get that GI bill for something useful when you get out, there's not greater opportunity to get a good education AND you'll be a little older and wiser about hitting the books. Any other path has you doing twice the work and needing double the luck. Yes, I know there are allegories out there about people who don't need none of that college boy bullshit.
  4. To be fair Macho Man Randy Savage is probably on such a steroid induced hormonal roller coaster that he's grown ovaries.
  5. Ah yes, literally an ocean of fact you have to ignore to think that additional vegetation from elevated CO2 outweighs the negative effects.
  6. That's right and it was a dumb move. You don't have to literally get your money from the thing that you're trying to change. If we were trying to increase use of child care centers we wouldn't apply a prohibitive tax to child care centers to pay for the changes. Emissions are a societal and countrywide issue and what every politician should absolutely understand is that sales taxes hit the masses the hardest. We raised taxes in the US on cigarettes because we ALSO don't want people smoking cigarettes so fuck them. We DO want people being able to go to work and conduct business. Yes, there are direct taxes for roads that come from gas and people understand that it's directly proportional to their use of the roads but we couldn't expect drivers to pay an extra tax so that steel companies can get funds to reduce coal emissions from furnaces. I don't care where we are in ranking. I want my country to lead the world and I'm willing to pay for getting it started. Especially in this hemisphere in which we're dealing with serious humanitarian issues arising from unrest and labor practices that make people want a big fucking wall on the southern border but nothing on the northern border I want our influence in making it happen. As I said above, this doesn't mean simply handing people money. We can invest ourselves in other countries and turn this into economic gains. Think of it as a combination of Lend Lease and Marshall Plan.
  7. Additionally, US mayors, led by Bloomberg let the World know. We lost some traction with Trump but hopefully the next President can make up for it. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/01/climate/american-cities-climate-standards.html
  8. That's because that was an idiotic move that disproportionately penalized those who were already economically dependent upon the cost of diesel. A better move would've been to simply increase overall taxes to invest in the infrastructure needed for low carbon power production or EVs. Sales taxes disproportionately affect lower income people. They knew it but did it anyway.
  9. I didn't want to stretch the leave cleaning metaphor too much but that's one way to put it. We've put the world in this situation. And not even in the long term. There are many countries dealing with pollution and smog issues caused by unregulated manufacturing. Their politicians and business owners would be more than happy to catch up with the developed world.
  10. I don't see why we wouldn't allow partner countries a means of ensuring that the specifics of trade agreements could be plainly observed. I'm also unable to point to any example that would demonstrate this, I have no idea how we ensure that things like child labor or safety laws are adhered to in other countries. What I think is that trade groups in country A would want their competition in country B to be held to the same standards and oversight as they are as a privilege of being able to sell their goods in country A.
  11. Absolutely. Any trade deals we make in our hemisphere need to also improve the working conditions in those countries. There's a direct correlation to illegal immigration and illegal work practices and enforcing those agreements is cheaper than a wall and enforcing a border.
  12. That's accurate, we need to be the ones paying for everyone else's yard. We're asking other countries to not do exactly what it was that made us rich and they're not in a position economically to make the capital investment. Furthermore, countries like China and India which thrive on a monoculture of cheap manufacturing won't lift a finger if they're undercut by neighboring countries using cheap coal and dirty processing methods. What we can do is use this as an opportunity to entrench ourselves into a developing economy that we helped to create.
  13. This makes is apparent that we're not doing enough and it's becoming even more important to bring in leadership with a strong economic background who wants to make a real impact. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/06/climate/bloomberg-climate-pledge-coal.html
  14. https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4737466/user-clip-trumps-muslim-ban Should I continue?
  15. I'm game. What do we do? I was having some thoughts about China on my way into work because of the continuing stories of what's going on in Hong Kong. A protester was talking about how they hoped this would make the world look more closely at China. So here we are, looking more closely at China. The US led the effort to curb what amounted to child slave labor in Asian countries, we can do the same as an effort towards China's human rights issues.
  16. I doubt we'll see a white house press release. Trump will simply back it down quietly, say (lie) that China is going to cave in on intellectual property issues and then brag about how much money we're making on trade now that he fixed everything. And people will believe him.
  17. And of course having just talked down about making fun of Greta.....there's this:
  18. Are you serious in this statement? This is exactly what he's talking about, this effort to paint her as being mentally deranged. It's so bizarre to see this being done as if you don't realize you've joined the mob of people who can't intelligently dispute her message and instead try to set her on fire. Have you considered that she's acting on her own volition?
  19. Your response could also be a statement that it's silly for people to complain that they'll be standing 15cm lower on the Greenland Ice sheet, why are people driving a Prius and going vegan because they're going to be 15 cm lower on the ice sheet? Do you think either of us are truly addressing the issues associated with either sea rise or ice loss?
  20. So now you're mad that they're not saying the entire world will be underwater except for bands of roving jet ski riders?
  21. You must not be aware of the Helium Blend now available in limited markets.
  22. They recently did a thingy with a guy from my DZ.
