Doesn't happen like that. It won't do anything about the fact that there's heat transfer through the walls. So the thing turns on, runs for 5 minutes and gets the temp down to 72. Then 10 minutes later it's 80 again and the thing runs for 5 minutes and gets you down to 72. All the while this is happening you're not getting any dehumidification and 72 starts feeling like a sticky 85. It's better to have the AC slightly undersized. People feel humidity more than they do temperature. What you CAN do is: 1. Get a programmable thermostat. 2. Buy an AC unit that has an option to run at at lower speed. That way you're getting more moisture out of the air when you've set the thermostat to a higher temperature. (NEVER leave the AC in the "fan on" position.) 3. Put more insulation in the walls/roof. (Pay attention to where the vapor barrier is. In moist lattitudes it should be on the outside; dry lattitude, on the inside.) 4. Plant a tree to provide more shade. 5. Find a more reflective roofing material. 6. Keep researching, I need to get back to work. My occupation being a mechanical engineer in the field of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. I used the same lens I use with tandems, a 0.5, and my framing get four canopies and leaves enough room for a lazy rotation.
