The point of a hoop dive is to do a jump that's just fun - one in which it's not a matter of "working on something" like fallrate or proximity. Basically, don't work on anything, just remember that skydiving is fun. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

my nitro has around 500 jumps, i never pull the slider over the stops and from my experience there is no significant wear on the lines I wouldn't take your perceived exception to the norm as a reason to not take a measure that will keep my lines from snapping. One counterfactual (i.e., alternative notional historical scenario) is if the US had chosen to pursue a technical demonstration before use on Japanese mainland. (Mentioned here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2988169;#2988169) A different counterfactual was suggested by historian Tsuyoshi Hasegawa, who has argued that the possibility/probability of invasion by Soviet Union was a greater factor in prompting the surrender of Japan … and suggested that Japan would have unconditionally surrendered before 15 Aug, when the Soviets indicated they would join the Pacific War. The Soviets broke the non-aggression pact attacking the Japanese in northeast China (nee Manchuria) btw the bombing of Hiroshima & Hirohito's surrender. He examined records from Japanese cabinet meetings and diaries of government and military officials before and immediately after the atomic bomb drops that he asserted suggested the “shock of the [potential] Soviet invasion was felt much more strongly than the shock of the atomic bombing.” Excerpts from Racing the Enemy: Stalin, Truman, and the Surrender of Japan are available via Google books (http://books.google.com/books?id=iPju1MrqgU4C&dq=tsuyoshi+hasegawa&printsec=frontcover&source=web&ots=BRtyjFFQWi&sig=jHA83WogTUZkxIV0UdmzyHm8fbo) is a fascinating read for any one who likes reading military history or security stuff. Article discussing Hasegawa’s work: http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1543754,00.html VR/Marg That's something I'd be interested in reading up on. Just from my college Naval History courses on the Japanese vs. Russian exchanges I know that the Russians had a score to settle and were willing to do bad things. I think some of the most reavealing things to read would be intelligence reports on Russian intentions as we neared the end of WWII. We knew they were out for the land grab that Hitler denied them at the beginning of the conflict. There sat Russian ripe with the Lend-Lease armament we'd been pouring into them for 5 years on top of a demolished China, Japan, Europe, and Eurasia. The fact that we dropped a nuke on their doorstep shouldn't be a surprise. I would love to see someone do a comparison on containing the USSR at the end of WWII and what the bomb did on one end vs what the Marshal Plan did at the other. We militarily shored up the East while economically securing the West. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

60 minutes did a bit on how forest fires are now becoming monstrous. It's because we spent a century stopping them before they started. Since fires were a part of the natural cycle we're at a point where there's so much fuel that we can't possibly stop them once they've lit. Also, all of those 1000 year old trees that survived the smaller natural fires are dying in these mega fires. Odd thing was that the next story was about how a miracle food was found that is stopping all the starvation that was occuring in a lot of arid and overpopulated parts of Africa. I'll let everyone wait 30 years and we'll get back to this topic. No, it wasn't called Soylent Green. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Cessna Caravan crashed in the Cascades-Skydivers on board
DJL replied to Amazon's topic in The Bonfire
Unless there's a smoking gun then we may never know. Even if there was then my understanding is that the wreckage is so severe that the cause could have been destroyed. I have already heard a ton of things that I never knew and it will help me to ask questions and make informed decisions in the future. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher -

What everyone should understand is that the gov't needs to levy taxes in order to maintain itself as being capable of supporting a sovereign nation. The debate will always be What Should be Taxed. The minority or those least capable of representing their cause will always lose that debate. What's illogical is attempting to define this process of when and how taxes are levied as being anything other than politics. THE END. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

You heard of this thing, the 8-Minute Abs? Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water. Listen to this: 7... Minute... Abs. Think about it. You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sittin' there, there's 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man? Bingo, man, bingo. 7-Minute Abs. And we guarantee just as good a workout as the 8-minute folk. If you're not happy with the first 7 minutes, we're gonna send you the extra minute free. You see? That's it. That's our motto. That's where we're comin' from. That's from "A" to "B". No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel. 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 doors. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office. 'Cause you're fuckin' fired! "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I'm glad I jump at DZs where everyone helps everyone else find gear. My DZO at Louisa has even gone out during the week to walk the woods by himself to find gear. I'm not saying you're being opportunistic. I know the terrain at Zhills, and know that what you're doing is a tremendous convenience to all the out-of-towners who are there trying to get in a solid day of jumping and would be completely hosed if their whole group had to stop to go find gear. But shouldnt that money be taxed too?? Like they said, It isnt yours anymore. You are dead. It should all go to the Government. I think I'll just have a casket made of my money ground up and made into paper mache. I could see that now. The men in black show up to make their collection and my family tells them what I did. "Uh...well, we're not sure what to do here now since we don't have a cap on how expensive funerals are to be. Johnson, call the president, we need to draft the 'Cheap Funeral' Bill." What's funny is that the gov't would claim the money to be lost to circulation and they'd just print new bills and require my family to spend their share on lawyers who would determine where the money should go. Good job on missing the point entirely but I don't have children and probably never will. If there's a single dime in my pocket when I die then it will go to the group, charity, or loved ones of my choosing. What do you think of the point of what I said?
