  1. Speaking of blame, leave it to Putin to preemptively muddy the waters and claim that there will be fake attacks. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-usa-putin-idUSKBN17D1K9 After seeing that I have no doubt that there will be further use of chemical weapons and Syria/Russia will claim they are fake/false flag operations. Also, look at that graph in the middle as to who is killing the most civilians. Holy shit! "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  2. That's what I was getting to as just a principle of common sense. Someone fucked up trying to get the extra crew boarded, didn't know what to do, ejected paying customers, and then called the mall cops when one person stood up for himself exactly as he should have. I'm actually surprised to see people saying the guy should have just done what they told him to when I think people on the plane should've had his back. Losing your seat while you're in the terminal is one thing but forcibly removing someone who is seated on a plane is entirely different. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. Article 1: The drought is a result of weather patterns. Article 2: The weather patterns are becoming more prevalent. That's the difference. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. They weren't with CPD, they were the "Aviation Police" - which sounds like an entire team of Farva's or something. When I see a police department that isn't allowed to carry firearms, I am a little suspicious of the skills required for employment. Regardless of the lead up to this, it is pretty embarrassing that they couldn't get a 65+ year old dude off an airplane without going to that level of force. Then after the injury, rather than arresting and getting medical treatment for the suspect - they drag him away down the isle (risking further injury). Finally, the cherry on top - 10 minutes later the dude ends up back on the plane running around mumbling to himself?! No wounder they don't let those guys carry guns, passengers would be getting blasted left and right. Ah yes, the air-soft tactical crowd. These are the same guys who get a HAM radio license badge and wear it on their Dickie's with a utility belt. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  5. I was wondering about that. The guys were wearing blue-jeans and at best official looking ballcaps and jackets. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  6. But really. Did you read the articles? I'm not talking about the headlines, that's the author, not the source. Besides, the internet is big, I'm sure you can find someone saying the drought is not caused by global warming. As I said above, you need to actually read the article, for one, and also look at who is being quoted, what the context is, etc. In the first article the source describes the drought to being exactly like every drought we've ever had and is not necessarily related to global warming. (By the way, the same source has written quite a bit about how Global Warming is exacerbating if not causing more conflict in the Middle East). The second article talks about the weather patterns that create the drought and state that because of global warming those weather patterns are becoming more prevalent. It's a set/subset issue that doesn't require mutual exclusivity. All the second person is saying is that as the dice roll the weather created by the changing climate will result in more droughts (set) as we have just seen. To that end it is possible that the most recent drought was a result of an already changing climate (subset). "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Oh, wow. Sorry, once that guy boarded it was too late. They need to put their crew member on a toilet or figure something else out. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

  9. Am I asking a dumb question when I say: If he was already seated then who was not seated and why did they not move the unseated person to another flight? If they're overbooked they they have run out of seats, right? So...were there people on laps? I'm missing something here. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. I actually bought one of those chopper things. Used it once and threw it away. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. OK...let me make it a bit more simple. Which of the two stories, both within 24 hours of each other is to be believed? Neither at face value. You need to look at who wrote it and why they wrote it. What is the author's background and who pays them, is it a peer reviewed article, are they espousing theory? Did you read the second article or just copy and paste the title and first paragraph (http://io9.gizmodo.com/californias-ongoing-drought-linked-to-climate-change-1640398500)? Yes the headline is a catchy "Climate Change Caused X" but the article states that the results of their study are that Global Warming causes MORE of the events that caused the drought, not that it caused THE drought. Again, don't be the guy in the informercial. You can cut the onion without the Slap-Chopper(R), just sharpen the blade, cut the onion in half long-ways and the chop perpendicular to the rings. 12. Of those Afghanistan and Iraq are tied together. Sure, Saddam needed to go but at least he was on a leash. Never should have gone in until Afghanistan was stable which would have been a long, long time. Libya, etc are tied into the Arab Spring that burned it's way through the Middle Eastern states. On one end was Libya on the other Syria in which our actions and inactions in Iraq have helped to exacerbate. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  13. There imaginations change so often that if you wait a couple of days they will be able to imagine it again. As the rest of the world thinks, "We can't imagine a stable US with Trump in charge." "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  14. Keep up the good work on tracking sources but I think you missed the point I was making that you can't pull absolute proof from an allegory and you also can't just throw your hands up and say it's too confusing. It's like those infomercials where the middle aged guy can't do a simple task like sit down with food. http://emgn.com/entertainment/20-things-human-beings-just-cant-do-according-to-infomercials/ It's just so confusing! I can't even! "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  15. Spicers current press briefing: "We can't imagine a stable Syria with Assad in charge." "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  16. Even though this thread has become an echo chamber I'm pointing out how that statement regarding the drought or the above discussion of famine are spoken in a way that ignores the big picture. It's as if the discussion is made knowing full well that an allegory doesn't' prove the case but nevermind all of that, it serves the purpose. 17. Don't forget this one: "Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate." 5:39 PM - 9 Oct 2012 "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  18. Are you saying the the California drought ending is proof that AGW doesn't exist? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  19. Yup. We literally celebrate our independence by shooting rockets and blowing things up. Better yet when there's someone on the receiving end. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  20. Thanks for the morning laugh! Man, that wattsup garbage again. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  21. I don't think we're progressing the conversation by pretending that global warming has anything to do with how the US handles a drought vs how countries in Africa handle a drought. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  22. Oh, I see it. I don't think it's as credible as it was when I was younger but right now I'm glad I live in Richmond and not DC or Norfolk anymore in case this business with Russia gets out of control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-JA1ffd5Ms Edit: I'm also glad it's not October 1962. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  23. I'm going to assume that you are a younger person. We "more experienced" types have seen the media morph from reporting the news to using the news as a tool to get ratings. I'll give you one example...Weather Channel. Back in the day The Weather Channel was just a channel where you could see the forecast. It served it's purpose well. It was all I ever wanted or needed it to be. But that doesn't sell commercials. Take a look at the screen capture. "Disaster '17" (For some reason I can't upload the screen capture but you get the idea) That's a real eye-catcher and to the uninitiated a scary prognosis. No longer sufficient to just report the forecast TWC has become the Weather Sensationalize Channel. And this example can be seen everywhere. Why? Because there's no money in unbiased reporting of the facts. I understand that you don't feel threatened by the prospect of a Nuclear War. People in my generation and older grew up with the constant reminder of the possibility. Now, it's hardly even talked about. I don't understand why. It's still the threat it was before, and in some cases I say the threat is even higher now. There's some much noise and so much competition for your attention that you have difficulty analyzing a perceived threat versus a real one. If you are truly worried about a global apocalypse think about how warm it would get if the more than 4,000 operational nukes were detonated. Followed by some serious global cooling. I'm 41 and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Military Institute, grew up in various parts of the world having been a Navy Brat, but most of my life I was in/near Washington D.C. I spent my youth well aware that the forward positions in which we lived in Europe were first strike zones since my father was a repair officer for nuke subs (mostly fast attack), I wrote several paper while at VMI on nuclear weaponry under the guidance of officers in the Submarine Navy. Take that for what it is. Edit: Conclusion: Global Thermonuclear is good for the environment. Shall we play a game? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  24. This is why alot of people don't trust AGW. Your statement could be said about any subject. Human population has been on the rise but we are considered a threatened species because of Global Thermonuclear War. I'm not sure what you're trying to say, that's a fairly disjointed statement. Most professionals in the field of polar bear study state that they risk habitat loss because of the loss of sea ice which may cause their numbers to dwindle. Polar Bears ARE listed as threatened because of that. Loss of Artic sea ice isn't theoretical, it's already happened. The discussion of global warming vs AGW has nothing to do with that reality. As a nuke war, well, at least when I woke up yesterday I didn't see that as a real threat. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  25. I'm not sure what point we're trying to get to. The polar bear population has been on a rise for the last 40 years, they are considered a threatened species and may begin to lose numbers because of the loss of sea ice. That's where that lays. As for sources, you start posting articles about Polar Bears concentrated in a certain area written by someone promoting a book about Polar Bears attacking people who is a paid propagandist again global warming and yes...we're going to have something to say about that. You then post from a source that is trusted (oh, god forbid, it's NPR -we knew where you were going with that, btw) and it's in line with scientific consensus and you're not going to get any push back. Just stop posting from garbage sources. You kept posting stuff that literally was only using its self as a source. And what the fuck with that lady anyway, the author of Jaws is very vocal that he wish he never wrote that book because it created a paranoia against sharks resulting in widespread shark fishing and hunting. Why would anyone who has supposedly spent their life studying an animal want to create the same atmosphere for that animal? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
