Utah man initially denied lung transplant over pot use dies
DJL replied to BIGUN's topic in Speakers Corner
And this is where I'm confused. Alcoholics are less likely to stop than cannabis users. On one hand, I get that he took something into his lungs, but it's not like (I hope) he would jeopardize his lungs in the future. Remember that THC showing up in his bloodstream doesn't necessary mean he smoked anything. Edibles are becoming more prevalent among marijuana users. Regardless, even if he did smoke something, this sounds like hospital or insurance policy and not up to the individual doctor. I'm sure there's more to the story. Good luck getting skydivers to wear it. Nobody is buying or wearing something extra for such a rare set of circumstances. The best target group is CRW jumpers who typically bring a cell phone. The better market is those at an unfamiliar DZ for a big event and still the best you can get them to do is bring their own phone. What I would do in such cases is create a list for attendees of their FindMyIphone log-in and then throw it away at the end of the event since it's typically the same as their normal password. Thought you'd all get a kick out of this: "Al Gore wishes you a happy #EarthDay from his $9 million mansion with no solar panels and 6 fireplaces bought with money from Qatari oil." https://twitter.com/hale_razor/status/855869476532703233?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.infiniteunknown.net%2F2017%2F04%2F23%2Fal-gore-wishes-you-a-happy-earthday-from-his-9-million-mansion-with-no-solar-panels-and-6-fireplaces-bought-with-money-from-qatari-oil%2F "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Not really, both are easily dismissible as fringe groups. There really are nutbags who believe some form of nature based spiritualism and there are those who take everything about man-made global warming as gospel. There are also those who think that regardless of what we do that God will fix it or that we shouldn't try because the end of the world is God's will. Hopefully, there are enough people between with wing-nuts to actually address the issues and deal with them for the long term benefit of our species. That hit the subject on the nose. Gonna be able to take very real criticism in the invention world. More often than not everyone will just watch from the sideline as you waste your money. I think this is a very useful thing but he just needs to piggy-back on existing technology and hardware. It would be great to be able to ping people who landed off. The competing technology is something equivalent to Find My Iphone where you type in a password and get the phone's location on a map. I don't think it's useful to actively track an entire DZ full of skydivers or incur the cost of extra electronics. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I sit next to/work with a Venezuelan girl, as in born and raised and her entire family is there. What exactly should I ask her? Anyway, I realize you're trying to say that anything resembling government over-site is Socialism and since Venezuela's socialist government failed then the only correct answer is an unregulated economy. That's pretty far leap. Is that where you're going with this? I don't see any circumstance in Venezuela applying to the free market vs. government oversite. In that country the government IS the oil company and they ransacked and mismanaged it. In the US the government is responsible for the long term national interest with regard to current and future industries and citizens. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I agree but DJL thinks it is fantasy. According to him a woman would never falsely accuse a man. And, if accused he is automatically guilty. It is a lesson in Liberal Logic 101. I don't think O'Reilly is the example you want to hang your hat on to prove that women make bullshit sexual harassment claims. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

But you get it that pure financial return isn't the only factor for developing and funding new technology, right? I don't think there's any real dispute of that and it's just a matter of trying to figure out what will win in the long run. When we're talking about energy we do need it to work out in the long run and we have to take morality and health into account. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should." Dr. Ian Malcolm I just don't think it's going to be financially feasible to be done widespread. Just grow the damn cows and process them. This is a hoax, BTW. Anyway, if the thought of a shit burger is horrifying how about when it goes to the mass market and those really cheap ones start coming out of China... Only when the economics compelled us. Part of those economics were planning for a better future many times with no foreseeable economic gain. The steam engine goes all the way back to the 12th century but wasn't viable for hundreds of years. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Don't expect your gadget to take off with a jackass attitude like that! Yeah, that's not what I'd call a good pitch to your target audience. Mega, just to chime in with my own bit, this would need to tack onto existing technology and require nearly zero effort from any participants. All you need is something that manifest could log into and ping the person's location, there's no need to track the entire load of jumpers, just the one that doesn't check back in. I don't see anyone using on a regular weekend but at bigger boogies where shit gets a little more haywire you'll see more people willing to take their phone on jumps just in case. I'm sure we all realize that economic viability has other factors than instantaneous cash value. Do we wait until fossil fuels are gone before developing other forms of energy? Do we keep sending soldiers to get killed and pumping money into keeping regions stable so we get a good deal on their fuel? And YES, do we factor the environmental impact of energy production. Energy subsidies are just one of many types that help to stabilize our own economy whether it be food production or all forms of energy. We don't live in some sort of economocracy where the only thing that matters is an the bottom line at the end of the month. We're humans with brains and know that there is a future to plan for in which we need to have technology to power our lives in a world that's safe to live in. Don't fret Ron, he's being replaced with Tucker Carlson who has his own history of sexism: https://mediamatters.org/research/2017/04/19/here-are-some-sexist-things-neo-nazi-favorite-and-oreilly-replacement-tucker-carlson-has-said/216109 "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

No one sane thinks that it did. The outcome isn't the point. The fact that another superpower actively tried to interfere at all is the point. How can you not see what a huge concern that is? Sure, but the crap is trying to link it to Trumps win! Do you care that we (the US) had people on the ground and spent money in Israel trying to oust Netanyahu? Hey look, RuskieMC is back. Good job defending mother Russia, Comrade. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Wow, standing up to sexual assault is becoming a "leftist" position? Incredible sense of morality you have there... "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
