  1. When people resort to buzzwords like 'Islamophobia" it tends to discredit their stance. I consider it hardly unrealistic to have the odd misgiving about people who hold to an ideology that states in no uncertain terms that I am to be summarily put to death. This concern does not meet the definition of a 'phobia' in any sense. The boogeymen of the left are enumerated by the SPLC, and it is considered de rigueur to hate the 'hate groups' so defined. I hang out with guys with swastika tattoos (when you ride an outlaw Harley it comes with the territory) and spend a lot of time with people from Muslim backgrounds. Nevertheless, my concerns regarding National Socialism and Islam are solidly grounded in fact, and reference to 'phobia' is an exercise in obfuscation. BSBD, Winsor "I consider it hardly unrealistic to have the odd misgiving about people who hold to an ideology that states in no uncertain terms that I am to be summarily put to death. 2. They're not immune, but fear and anxiety are far more dominant themes among conservatives, and their media is entirely geared toward feeding their fear and anxiety. It's part of why they're so much more likely to be duped by fake news and hoaxes. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/mind-in-the-machine/201612/fear-and-anxiety-drive-conservatives-political-attitudes https://newrepublic.com/article/119895/psychology-fear-increases-conservatism Conservative political machines in every country know this and harness it. And it's not because conservatives are "stupid", either. Some unquestionably are, but so are some liberals. http://www.danielmtfessler.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Fessler-et-al-in-press-Political-Orientation-Credulity.pdf https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/02/why-fake-news-targeted-trump-supporters/515433/ I definitely don't intend to paint this as a Right Only issue, I'm speaking about all the fear mongering about Sharia Law, Islamophobia, etc. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  3. I've seen nothing but fear, weakness and anger from the right. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  4. All of that is true except you (right leaning people) exhibit a disproportionate fear towards people with certain colors and nationalities. We've hashed out all of that in different forums to no conclusion. From Martin Luther King's Speech "I've Been to the Mountaintop": Let us Develop a Kind of Dangerous Unselfishness. "Let us develop a kind of dangerous unselfishness. One day a man came to Jesus, and he wanted to raise some questions about some vital matters of life. At points he wanted to trick Jesus, and show him that he knew a little more than Jesus knew and throw him off base.... Now that question could have easily ended up in a philosophical and theological debate. But Jesus immediately pulled that question from mid-air, and placed it on a dangerous curve between Jerusalem and Jericho. And he talked about a certain man, who fell among thieves. You remember that a Levite and a priest passed by on the other side. They didn't stop to help him. And finally a man of another race came by. He got down from his beast, decided not to be compassionate by proxy. But he got down with him, administered first aid, and helped the man in need. Jesus ended up saying, this was the good man, this was the great man, because he had the capacity to project the "I" into the "thou," and to be concerned about his brother. Now you know, we use our imagination a great deal to try to determine why the priest and the Levite didn't stop. At times we say they were busy going to a church meeting, an ecclesiastical gathering, and they had to get on down to Jerusalem so they wouldn't be late for their meeting. At other times we would speculate that there was a religious law that "One who was engaged in religious ceremonials was not to touch a human body twenty-four hours before the ceremony." And every now and then we begin to wonder whether maybe they were not going down to Jerusalem -- or down to Jericho, rather to organize a "Jericho Road Improvement Association." That's a possibility. Maybe they felt that it was better to deal with the problem from the causal root, rather than to get bogged down with an individual effect. But I'm going to tell you what my imagination tells me. It's possible that those men were afraid. You see, the Jericho road is a dangerous road. I remember when Mrs. King and I were first in Jerusalem. We rented a car and drove from Jerusalem down to Jericho. And as soon as we got on that road, I said to my wife, "I can see why Jesus used this as the setting for his parable." It's a winding, meandering road. It's really conducive for ambushing. You start out in Jerusalem, which is about 1200 miles -- or rather 1200 feet above sea level. And by the time you get down to Jericho, fifteen or twenty minutes later, you're about 2200 feet below sea level. That's a dangerous road. In the days of Jesus it came to be known as the "Bloody Pass." And you know, it's possible that the priest and the Levite looked over that man on the ground and wondered if the robbers were still around. Or it's possible that they felt that the man on the ground was merely faking. And he was acting like he had been robbed and hurt, in order to seize them over there, lure them there for quick and easy seizure. And so the first question that the priest asked -- the first question that the Levite asked was, "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"" "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  5. You're so ugly they gave your mom a littering ticket when she dropped you off at school. Anyway, your logic of emotional response = liberals is pretty lame. I see way more about your side of the fence being afraid of foreigners or people wearing certain articles of clothing. Fear and weakness is a pretty bad trait. 6. Oh, are you psychiatrist? When did you get that degree? Last time you were a counsellor. I used to do psychiatric assessments for a psych hospital and provide a provisional diagnosis. My master's qualified me for that position. Your words from the Weinstein thread: "Only in the world of the "touchy/feely" liberals. I was taught that "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me." That goes along with being personally responsible. Nowadays most are looking for someone or something to blame. That is social weakness IMO." Did you diagnose people as being Liberals? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  7. Only in the world of the "touchy/feely" liberals. I was taught that "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me." That goes along with being personally responsible. Nowadays most are looking for someone or something to blame. That is social weakness IMO. So does this mean we can hurl personal attacks at you with no threat of being banned? "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  8. But you only again make a statement that it's the hoodie, not the foul deed that should be under scrutiny. Again, an article of clothing means nothing. 3/4 of the people in line at the grocery store with me are wearing hoodies in the fall. Unless you're in the US where the majority are white people. Is that a complaint about being shouted down? Funny how that happens where you're so wrong about something. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  9. This is all politicizing something that shouldn't be political. The President shouldn't have to commit to what is becoming hollow political theatrics every time a soldier dies. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh but soldiers die and it's not the President's place to personally reach out their families. Besides, he obviously does a shit job at it. This country has turned soldiers into political pawns and it's bullshit. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  10. Actually, it looks like this is incorrect, or at least only partially correct - my family owns a gun store in LA and there wasn't any upsurge in sales after the Vegas shooting and I don't expect one after this. Every time there was a shooting incident when Obama was in office there was a huge upsurge to buy guns, ammo and modifications because the expectation was that some sort of legislation would be introduced in response. We're not seeing that type of reaction with a Republican government... The sales we're seeing suggest that gun owners don't think anything will change. I think the entire gun industry said, "oh shit" when Trump said this: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/04/28/donald-trump-national-rifle-association-convention/101021848/ "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  11. Do you have any understanding about just how unlikely that is? And what it says about you that you hope for it? Besides, the way modern politics works is when there's a mass shooting gun sales increase because of the political upheaval it creates. I think we're pretty well versed that the rate of mass killings has zero effect on .... ....you know what, I can't even believe I'm spending time responding to that.... "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  12. No, not really. Something said is not something done. I see you like the made up stuff now too. "Something said is not something done." - RushMC. We'll remember this any time you list something about Obama, Clinton, George Soros, etc. So how about that $25 million dollar settlement over Trump University, does the fraud involved in that case categorize as a "said" or a "done"? I can't believe that you (plural) are sitting here in the middle of thread about Weinstein entirely unable to draw a comparison. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  13. You voted for a sexual predator with a history of immorality in nearly every aspect of his life. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  14. Indeed. Republican values are getting further and further out of touch with American (and indeed, just decent human) values. The party of "Family Values" almost mocks their own logo now and has replaced it with a sort of pride about being "deplorable" as if that's an everyday man of the world sort of value that depicts one as being rough around the edges and just a little imperfect. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  15. Democrats have evidence to prove that the Republicans are wrong. The Republicans know it is the other way around. (Let's see who picks up on the meaning of that statement.) The two parties have different value standards. And the divide is growing wider. You can't harp on value standards with Trump sitting in office. That's laughable. 16. You can put money on Mia Farrow knowing a thing or two about producers trying to get in your pants. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  17. As do I. Would you wear yours on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando late at night? I wouldn't, it would be stupid. I've lived in many parts of the US and a hoodie has never been more than something to wear when it's a little cooler out by people from all walks of life. I'm at a loss of words to think that you feel any article of clothing justifies being searched by the police, that's...mind blowing. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  18. OK by me. Then you and your wife are first. Every time you roll into a gas station, grocery store or drive within a mile of a public gathering you and your wife are going to have a cop run their hands over your bodies, up your pants, across your chests, ask you two to spread your butt cheeks and jump up and down to see if anything falls out. Yes, that's stop and frisk. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  19. Since you clearly missed the story being extensively reported in the WaPo, NYT, NBC, Guardian, and other so-called "left side" media, I can only assume that you don't actually read or watch these and are just talking out of your {censored}. Everything with Weinstein's name on it is being razed. His company has changed it's name and will likely fold, he's been removed from nearly every association in which he held a membership, his wife left him, movies and shows in which he was involved have been cancelled or are in jeopardy, AND police in several states are investigation the allegations. In the meantime right leaning news channels are going after people for not being as outraged with him as they have been with Trump. The issue.....barely anything has happened with Trump and even with full knowledge going into the election of his sexual assault accusations and audio of him bragging about it the Republican Party STILL elected him President. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  20. You are wrong. There is a video somewhere (cant look for it right now) of a guy trying to do this under canopy. He failed. And a lever against what? You chinstrap in your throat is what you're working against and that doesn't work very well. Meanee, try putting your helmet on and see how much force you can exert against it. Hell, just try doing it in your chair against your own head because that's even lower on the lever arm you're pushing against which is your own neck, it's not much at all. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  21. The difference here is what the law will apply to and I only bring this up because inevitably someone brings up the counterpoint that it's already illegal to kill people with a gun or that you can't apply a law to a car that stops drunk people from driving them besides a mandatory breathalyzer ignition lock. Again it comes to laws that will limit the ability of any person to obtain a firearm and their ability to inflict damage. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  22. The review the ATF did on these that allowed them to pass was ridiculously short-sighted. They decided that since they met the letter of the law then they would be legal. The issue at hand is that the trigger is depressed once for each shot fired, not that the device allows bullets to be fired repeatedly and continuously. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  23. Could he not have just bought one of the other existing millions of rifles that have been in the US since what vietnam era? In that ridiculously hypothetical solution I provided you could throw on another ridiculously hypothetical state seizure of all firearms and the death penalty for anyone who has a gun enforced by robots who scour the planet for guns. Please see the second half of my post for any realistic discussion as to what could benefit our future. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
  24. What law would have stopped this one Bill? A law that calls for zero production or import of firearms and ammunition in the US and places sanctions against countries that do. Seems pretty far fetched but the argument is that if you create restriction you're only hurting law abiding gun buyers. This guy was a law abiding gun buyer. Now, we all know that a law like this is ridiculous but you asked for a law that would have stopped this and that's asking for the absolute sense which is also ridiculous. The real issue here was rate of fire, magazine size, weapon type, quantity of firearms. Those are all addressable issues, because we'll NEVER be able to absolutely stop incidents like this with laws but we can reduce the frequency or severity or cause the person to go to greater lengths to perform such acts that it raises red flags.
