  1. I did not say it worked well, just that it worked Hey Kevin I am not flaming anyone here and probably the guy has much more BASE experience than me. BUT, as usual we must learn from each other's mistakes no need to rreinvent the wheel in BASE. I do believe his gear configuration was not adequate for the jump. I would have not made that jump slider up: Raven, Ace, Flik, or BJ. Memento Audere Semper 903
  2. In this case read my numero uno Memento Audere Semper 903
  3. 1. Did you check the trim when you got the canopy? Really, did you? I know few riggers doit on brand new canopies. 2. The vast majority of Spectra line shrinkage happens within the first 100 jumps. 3. If you are so worry about the slinks get the PD approved ones for reserves and tandems. Memento Audere Semper 903
  4. I stated few times that Ravens make decent BASE canopies for something not too low. The problem I see here is the use of a slider on a 500' cliff. It might have worked in the past; 32" PCs also have worked in the past for 2-3 secs delays... Memento Audere Semper 903
  5. This is my 0.02. The one machine that will do 'em all is a Singer 20U or a clone of it. It's not too fast so it does not take too much time to get used it. Its single stitch ain't that bad and you can mimic the bartack. It will go through thicker stuff and it loves type E (69). Next would be a double needle and then when you get your Master ticket a harness machine (7-33). I have a 20U and do everything with it but harnesses, of course. With patient you can bind tape too, a bit of a PITA but it's doable. I bartack lines of all types with it: from thin Vectran to 900 LB Dacron and the quality is really good sometimes better then some real bartack I'v seen. Again it's not as easy to do as with a true bartack machine but doable. One day I'll buy a double and a 7-33... If I were in you that's what I would get a 20U. Send me a PM so I can give you a link. 6. Slider up on a 500' cliff with a Raven II Heal soon! Memento Audere Semper 903
  7. I don't agree. I believe in Risers over toggles any time, flame away. Slim could have saved few bones if he went for risers and he was very, very experienced when he had his 180. People don't realize that Moab is not a easy site. Inexperienced jumpers flick it all the time. Some get away, some get away with an inflated ego, some get away with some titanium... Just my 0.02. 8. Honestly I don't think the S3 was built to go for time or slow flight. You can probably have the same FF time with a GTI. What the S3 does is cover a lot of ground. If you fly it slow and mushy you are defeating its purpose. I stated few times that the S3 is very demanding. I think those who are interested in simple flocking of just having fun should not get an S3. If you want max froward speed or are interested in BASE WS than the S3 and the V1 are the right tools. I think there are better suits for slow flying out there. The S3 gets squarely when not flown efficiently. That has been my experience so far or maybe I am not a good pilot yet. More experienced S3 pilots can comment better. Memento Audere Semper 903
  9. Quite a story Tim. You are an unstable mother. You must seek professional help as well as everybody else on this board. Jumping off things is a clear sign of mental instability. PS Yesterday I had my first tree landing. The landing went fine but after I cutaway I jumped on another tree to climb down, the thing broke and I fell 15' right on my chest on a perfect arch. Just few scratches, the canopy is fine too. It's all good. Memento Audere Semper 903

  11. I am currently teaching psychopharmachology. Psychoactive drugs do induce behavioral changes but you misunderstood my point. Popular science suggests or sometimes even dictates that some natural occurring chemicals like some neurotransmitters or enzymes that break them down are responsible for certain behaviors. This is not correct or at least it does not give the full picture. I think NickDG summarized the picture quite well and he came to the same conclusions that I did without empirical data: There is not a personality type that fits all BASE jumpers (the pinnacle of sensation seekers if you asked me) and stating that BASE jumpers have low or high levels of this neurotransmitters or that enzyme is just a shot in the dark at best. The reason those papers upset me so much is the fact that they oversimplify the brain/mind that I so admire for its complexity. When I got into Neuroscience about 10 years ago I thought things were cool and everything made some sense “Oh cool this structure does this...this neurotransmitter does that…this circuitry is responsible for such…” After a decade in the field I am more confused than ever and I can barely grasp some of the phenomena and processes the mind is able to achieve. We have tons of experimental data but the field as a whole is lacking solid theories like the ones for Sensation Seeking. The thing is… it is hard to get grants just by wanting to play with theories…empirical data must be provided…so now we have this big pot of data that nobody knows how to interpret it or glue it together to come up with some solid conceptualizations. 13. No, it'll take forever. Bottom line is that you cannot make a direct link between molecules and behavior like popular science loves to do. Behavior reflects the complexity of the mind hence many, many phenomena at any level must be accounted for not just molecules. All sensation seeking theories have major flaws and empirical data are lacking. This is something I would love getting into when I am done with my current line of research. Memento Audere Semper 903
  14. Also look up under BS. Memento Audere Semper 903
  15. NOICE! 2000' tower with elevator...On one side the WS landing device. On the other side lots or trees to practice tree landing or tree slalom. On the third side a swooping pond for those who will be tarding or Mcing HP canopies. And finally on the fourth side a nice swimming pool for the round boys The name will be BASEland Park. 16. Landing apparatus for wing suits: 6 mil Wing suit: ~1000 Rig: 0 Landing a wing suit without a parachute: fucking priceless Memento Audere Semper 903
  17. This is the exact same set up I use. I posted it few times. If everything goes OK the S/L comes with you. If it gets trapped on the object the second break cord breaks and you lose the S/L but no damage to the canopy. I lost two S/Ls because they got trapped on an object's grating. This set up is simple and effective. I always carry one with me and use it when I'm too chicken to free fall low objects. Also the openings are even better than PCA Memento Audere Semper 903
  18. Subterminal??? You guys are crazy! I always kite new canopies for about 20 hours. Then about 500 sub-terminal openings (like 1-2 sec H&P) to set those lines especially the HMA and Vecrtan ones Then maybe pulling at terminal but not after I put a 18" PC just to soften things up a little. Memento Audere Semper 903
  19. Do a search on carry with you SL. Here is my set up. On low stuff I PCA the jumpers and hook myself up. Memento Audere Semper 903
  20. 1. Awesome and cop don't do in the same sentence unless you use them as in "I met an awesome chick who's dating a fucking cop" or something like that. 2. Lose the stickers buddy. I did. No more BASE saved my life, BASE is not a crime, When I grow up I want to be just like Jeb with Jonhny's hair and Jason's goatee, Cutway and be happy, USPA rules!... 3. You get arrested for trespassing not jumping so I would have flicked it Memento Audere Semper 903
  21. I jump a 99 main and a 150 reserve. What is the point? The point is that a 150 main would put me to sleep and a 99 F-111, 7-cell, low aspect ratio reserve would be a helluva thing to land. I think the V3 is where it's at but the fact that you cannot accommodate miss match canopies steers away many customers including me. If you are suggesting I should up size my main you are wrong. If you are suggesting I should downsize my reserve you are dead wrong. Memento Audere Semper 903
  22. -We don't use the DBS with slider up because if it is properly set the canopy will open in a stall and fly backwards. -The DBS offers no prevention from line overs, the tailgate does that in slider down and the slider plus other tricks do that in slider up. Memento Audere Semper 903

    cliff ?

You nailed it! Where we jump that's always the scererio Sometimes it's just salt, sometimes you have to dodge real bullets Memento Audere Semper 903
  24. Keep in mind that a deep break setting should give you faster openings (up to a degree) but that is not always the case. I was playing with a skydiving canopy break settings and found out that too deep BS lead to surges and longer inflation! In BASE the real reason for the DBS is really not to have faster openings but to reduce the forward speed as much as possile after the opening. That buys you a bit more time to turn away from the object in the case of a off-heading opening. Memento Audere Semper 903

    cliff ?

At that height with a running exit and 1-1.5 sec delay you won't have any time to dick around. It does look exiting! I would probably chicken out on a jump like that! Actually I would most definitely chicken out If I had to do it because someone is chasing me with a gun I run like hell, jump forward as much as I can, and pitch right away. Let us know how it went if you will be able to do so... Memento Audere Semper 903
