straight vs. cascaded lines

I don't want to go off the tangent on this one but ask the person who actually designs and makes these canopies! Memento Audere Semper 903 -

straight vs. cascaded lines
nicknitro71 replied to livenletfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Not true. Ask Stane about it. The trim has been changed during the years. Minor stuff but it's not the same. Not in this case. 50% in reduction of the bulk above the cascade, 25% below it. You have not seen the stuff I use, much thinner than CSR's. Contact E.L. Wood Braiding Co. Inc 607.849.9663 if you want to know the specs on the stuff they made for me. Memento Audere Semper 903 -
straight vs. cascaded lines
nicknitro71 replied to livenletfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I am jumping an Alpha 99 that still had its first line set. I relined it with HMA non-cascaded lines. I trimmed it like a Cobalt, made the lines 15 cm longer, and put a different slider. Making the lines was a bit of a pain because there are so many! I did not bartack them; I used the Jump Shack non-sewing finger trapping method and it has been working well. The Tecnora lines I used are different than what Precision and HiperUSA use. They come from a different manufacture, they are 352 LBS minimum, they are thinner, and black due to a UV coat. The reduction in bulk is 50% above the cascade and 25% below the cascade; quite a difference. The canopy has been completely transformed. Because I have done many things I don't know which factor contributed the most. The differences are: more consistent openings; more carved toggle turns (not as snappy); lighter front riser pressure, much longer recovery arc; faster flight; steeper angle of incidence; greater bottom end and flare; also the canopy looks flatter span-wise. The lower control lines are made of Dacron 400 LBS. I should be able to get 1000 jumps with this set up. Bottom line "Daddy likes it!" Memento Audere Semper 903 -

Suit-harness-container integration only applies to BASE. I would love a suit that has a built in harness container to hook up my BASE canopy. I'd get one in a heart beat. As for the suit: about a constant 120mph forward and 20 mph vertical speed? A true 6:1 glide ratio? Is that even theoretically possible? I don't care much for flocking, I'm all for performance: faster, flatter, longer without being to hard too fly. Maybe in a decade or so... Memento Audere Semper 903

What about a tandem drogue on a 68? Come on let's be realistic here. I don't believe in PCs smaller than a 28" for anything smaller than a 150. Skydiving PCs should range between MIN 28-32/34 MAX depending on the size of the canopy. Yes a bigger PC will increase the snatch force but that is not what gives hard openings. The only way slow down a canopy on opening is to reduce the force of the air going into the nose. A PC cannot do that no matter how you look at it. I think all the points but 5 and 7 Bill made are valid. Memento Audere Semper 903

No, the brake lines should be like specs. No, smaller PCs don't give you softer openings. Memento Audere Semper 903

When I was in the special forces we were given hydromorphone in ready-to-shoot syringes. The damn thing works as I found out few years later. When you say painkillers I hope you mean opiates because the other stuff is just gimmick. If you can't find morphine or hyrdomorphone and you are dead serious about it you can always buy some heroin on the street. The problem is to know the "cut", i.e. how much heroin is actually in it, hey you don't want to OD trying to use it as a genuine painkiller! If you find it the painkiller dose is about 10 mg of the pure stuff. For those of you who don't know it heroin was synthesized first by Bayer (by the same guy who synthesized aspirin, Heinrich Dreser) in 1898 and it was sold it over the counter for many years and claimed it as non-addictive! In 1924 it was banned in the US but Bayer continued to claim that it was non-addicive (deja vu anyone?). Memento Audere Semper 903

I did not use the words softer or harder. To me it seems more "staged" but it could be a placebo effect. I think Tom was experimenting with this set up as well so he can add few things. Memento Audere Semper 903
-
I was talking to Tom about it. I don't think it affects the time although the openings seem more "staged" probably due to the fact that the slider tailgate acts as a "direct slider control" but without the side effects of it because the tailgate is right in the center of the trailing edge and the lines are not shortenen. Memento Audere Semper 903
-
I use a slider tailgate. A sencond tailgate is sewn in the middle of the trailing edge of the slider. If you do so make sure the slider is fine mesh. Memento Audere Semper 903

1. Where you live there is no terminal object Are you going to Europe any time soon? 2. This is my set up (ACE 240). 0-1.5 46" Z-po vented no handle large mesh 2-4 42" Z-po non-vented disk large mesh (soon to be replaced) 5-8 and WS Z-po 38" vented internal handle large mesh Terminal Z-po 32" vented external handle small mesh I am making a 42" now that will look like a tandem drouge but vented. The specs are: Z-po, internal handle, vented. Bottom skin: the skirt will be fine mesh (about 1") , then z-po fabric (50% of the length), then fine mesh again (the other 50%). CR's canopies have customized DBS from the factory. Mine were dead on and did not need additional adjustment. I skidived the canopy a lot to test them. I'm very happy with my ACE. I think it's the bomb and I can't see myself going vented any time soon. Also if you are getting a CR canopy please get the Z-po foreskin. Memento Audere Semper 903

That said, I've had sucess with 28 ZP P/C's on all the rigs I've owned, and I bellieve that is the smalles size that anyone should need in skydiving. Memento Audere Semper 903

The correct procedure is: BOTTOM TOP RIGHT LEFT I had the opposite problem with my FF. The container was too tight and I had a helluva hard time tucking it in. Now the Wings is my WS only rig, no more handle, and no more BOC. Memento Audere Semper 903

1. Vectran lines don't shrink (you are talking about your safire2, aren't ya?) 2. The front risers are loaded much more during the opening than the rears. 3. Have another rigger check the trim. 4. If out of trim send it back to Icarus. Memento Audere Semper 903
