  1. Rigging but harness work because I do not have access to a harness machine. Things like patches, relines, bridles, tail pockets, minor modifications. One day when I have the space I'll get an harness machine and start making rigs for fun... I am a part time rigger, I do not do it for living by the way and I know there are BASE jumpers out there that are full time riggers and/or have access to a lot of "cool" toys! for big projects. As for my "real" job I don't know how much theoretical neuroscience can benefit the community Memento Audere Semper 903
  2. Tony, who needs a plane in Moab? Memento Audere Semper 903
  3. I cannot see myself quitting skydiving. Sure they are different, yet I enjoy both very much. Memento Audere Semper 903
  4. That disturbed me quite a bit so I contacted the seller and this is his/her response. By the way, I do not care if I piss somebody off by posting it in a public forum: Sure I can see every rigger in the US rushing to buy an expired Cypres for over 100 bucks! Memento Audere Semper 903
  5. Off that tower you have time to take a snack in FF. He ended up in the wires, he must have fucked up. This is not an accident by any means. This incident just represents the guy's own stupidity, his phone conversation his character, or lack of it. I would not trust this BASE-Tattoo-look-at-my-scar-on-my-back-I'm-so-fucking-cool-dude with a potato gun in his hands. Also, I do not think anyone here really hates the character, he comes across as dumb as a gold fish but not malicious. We do hate what he did for the sport. I've seen many people in much tougher situations than this one and they showed courage not a whining behavior you should not even see in a child. I do feel ashamed that I, among other people that I respect immensely, are now associated with this guy and the distorted perception of BASE. Nicely done John! Keep up the good work! PS Do you BASE? 13. Do a search on DBS... Said that, the main reason for using DBS is not faster inflation, actually really deep BS reduces inflation. The idea is to open with a canopy that has as little forward speed as possible, yet it does not surge on opening, and allows you to steer with the risers without stalling out. Usually this setting has no more than 1"-2"MAX of "play". That's why everyone should customize their DBS despite factory settings... Memento Audere Semper 903
  14. To each his own I guess. If I'm using a 46" it means no more than 1 sec of FF so why going stowed? If it's no more than 1 sec of FF means I'm low and why risking a PC hesitation? Again to each his own... Memento Audere Semper 903
  15. A skateboard park? Is where my money went? To build a sakeboard ramp? Well I guess I have to give Tony Hawk a call so he can teach me few tricks Memento Audere Semper 903
  16. You got to be kidding me! Did you kill somebody in FF to be grounded at the WFFC? Seriously, I've never seen so many instances of grounding than the WFFC and nobody even blinks an eye! Well maybe a certain DZ in the NE comes pretty close Memento Audere Semper 903
  17. No it's not but sometimes you do not have an attachment point on the object. We usually jump a S where we cannot use a S/L. By the way I do not like holding the PC strongly when PCAing. What I do is to S-fold the bridle in one hand and hold that strong then leave some slack and hold the PC in the other hand. This method has been proven very effective even when 1st time PCAers are used. Memento Audere Semper 903
  18. I'd keep my Ace thanks Seriously I'm looking for a Mojo 240 as a second rig. Memento Audere Semper 903
  19. Hold on those Mojos! Have you seen my add??? Where the hell are all those Mojo 240s??? Memento Audere Semper 903
  20. I really do not follow your logic here. A canopy, an airplane, a falling body do not care of wind speed becuse they move with the mass of air. As for speed and distance they are IMO meaningless prameters in this scenario. It would be better to talk about glide ratio and there is a specific body position to maximize L/D on track. And as stated somewhere else, a skydive is not the best enviroment to test L/D of tracker or a WS pilot... Memento Audere Semper 903
  21. Not from skydiving but from flying, actually renting a particular J3. I was flying too low over a river. Memento Audere Semper 903
  22. Good point. I put the loops in last night and I was playing with the system. Indeed it requires a bit more force to release the brakes when they are under tension but the force on the toggles is greatly reduced, they stay loose even when lots of force is applied to the lines (that can also be not a good thing). I guess the optimal solution as Tom said is to have a three ring release with "miniature" rings. In the mean time I stick with the "normal" set up that's been very good to me thus far. 23. I dissected both rigs and there is no doubt the V3 is very well built. Said that, I also find the Wings exceptionally well build even more so than the Odyssey for instance, in disagreement with billvon. I also had problems with the FF handle on my Wings and would not recommend it. By the way I saw stitching problems on V3s with less than 50 jumps, there is not a single rig out there that has not had problems. IMO it comes down to the skyhook and if you can jump the V3; by this I mean that RWS does not make containers for mismatched main/reserve. For instance, I could not jump a V3 unless I downsized my reserve by 30sf and that it's not going to happen. If you are 100% sold on the skyhook and the V3 fits your main/reserve then there is no choice. If you don't care about the skyhook save yourself some bucks and go for the Wings, just my 0.02 Memento Audere Semper 903
  24. I second Tom. Although a big fan of slinks for mains and reserves in skydiving, I do not use them in BASE unless, as said, I had a dedicated slider removed rig which I don't. I make my own ones for main canopies and I would not hesitate using them for BASE. Memento Audere Semper 903
  25. Let me articulate the idea better (it sounds like a joke). On slider up we slide the eye pass the ring and inset the toggle. This creates a de-multiplying factor because we are effectively using the rig as a pulley. With slider down we do not have such a luxury or at least not to the extent of slider up setting. Moreover the forces on the brake lines are greater on slider down. The LRT works quite well especially with cloth toggles. However, by adding another loop we can take advantage of our beloved pulley. "Gimme a lever long enough and I'll lift the world". Here is a pic of it (pardon the roughness). The green loop is the 2WL that can be easily installed on the risers. With this set up, we can take advantage of de-multiplying forces. I'll put the "LRLT" set up on tonight and jump it on the week-end. Memento Audere Semper 903
