Also read here. If I had B-12 I would have not broken my hand! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1584934;search_string=metacarpal;#1584934 Memento Audere Semper 903

First time I met Tom I really thought he was going to be much phatter and much shorter than he claims himself to be Memento Audere Semper 903

No. Hackeys are heavy. If the PC ends up in the burble the hackey might get trapped with the PC chocking it and in BASE a PC in tow = death. I do not even use a hackey for WS SD. I put a practice golf ball after the second episode I heard of a WS PC in tow due to the hackey. Memento Audere Semper 903

We keep a bottle of Jack behind the pilot's seat. It seems to do the trick Memento Audere Semper 903

Yeah I follow the math but as Lou said there is a reduction in strength due to the knot. Even if the overall strength is 160LB, it is about the same as a 28" PC at terminal so again I would not sweat over it. As for my mishap with my Viper I guess skydiving main canopies are not supposed to be deployed at 200Kits! The canopy had no more than 150 jumps total and it was in great shape. Remember that BASE canopies are much more overbuilt than SD mains yet I would not delpoy them at 200Knts Memento Audere Semper 903

Nice reading. Funny thing is that when my Viper blew up due to a 200kts deployment no line broke but the bridle attachment point ripped off the canopy and three cells ripped at the bottom skin fabric. None of the stitching ripped. Memento Audere Semper 903

By the way the Cobalt has one of the highest AR of all canopies, 2.83 vs the 2.68 of the Velocity and 2.78 of the VX. I don't undestand why a student would need a very high AR elliptical even if it's lightly loaded Memento Audere Semper 903

The Sigma tandem is nothing but a big Stiletto Memento Audere Semper 903

About the same yes. The biggest difference is the line attachment points and where the pilot is located under canopy, much more aft on the Cobalt. Memento Audere Semper 903

In a S/L set up the break cord breaks at around 80LB so usually there should not be more than 80LB of force that is applied to any component of the rig. In constrast a 28" Z-po PC will pull with a force of 160 LB at terminal. I assure you that BASE canopies are built much stronger than Skydiving mains... Bottom line: no sweat unless you are doing something very wrong with your S/L set up. Memento Audere Semper 903

Sure, I'll try to post them in the next few days. There are two pieces/arm wing and three on the leg wing. Disclaimer: I can post the details on the construction if interested but be aware that you can easily fuck up the suit permanently. Working with CF is a bitch! Memento Audere Semper 903

Scott, You are absolutely right but there is no substitute for ground rush Seriously speaking, on a skydive especially if you are jumping a tiny canopy, pull by 3 if not higher, listen to the experts (Scott and others). IMO the CF trailing edges make a huge difference. The suit is easier to fly, feels more solid, and the performance window is greater. I've hit my all time best ever since the mod. I was ready to get a lower performance suit for BASE but now I am keeping my S3 because I feel very comfortable with it. In all honesty it was a shot in the dark. To me it made a great deal of sense so I gave it a shot and it worked. The cons are the wings are "roomier" in the airplane and the leg pouch PC I think it's mandatory with this set up. I put CF trailing edges on all wings. Memento Audere Semper 903

Third cutaway total, second in the year, second with a WS. Exit: 10000 Aircraft: C182 Depl: 2000 Main: E-mod Alpha 99 Reserve: Tempo 150 Container: Jav TJN with RSL WS: E-mod S3 PC: 28" 9' bridle Other: BASE pouch PC I usually dump by 3K with a WS. On that flight things just felt too good. It was the first time that I really thought "I could land this!" At 5K I maxed out and I was in the zone, no doubt. I passed 3k and I just wanted to go few more sec. At 2K I dumped. I don't know if my throw was sloppy but I did feel the hesitation (first time it ever happened). I probably tilt my head to look what was up, that probably initiated a slow spin, more like a skid actually. Next thing I am under my main with what it looks like a one full twist (360). A second later I'm on my black spinning like a mother. Clink-clink the main is gone and before I put my hand on the silver my Tempo was already over my head with no twist flying like a baby by 1000'. The main ended up in the river and I took us over one hour to get it. We had to get a canoe and it was quite an adventure following the damn thing. The current was quite strong and the canopy was slowly sinking. I lost the free-bag. Conclusion: If you are jumping a small elliptical with a WS do pull by 3K. It might be advisable not to jump a small canopy with a WS . When the shit hits the fan do not dick around. This is my second cutaway with an RSL. In both circumstances I was spinning on my back under a small canopy. In both circumstances my reserves got out before I was able to touch the sliver with no line twist. By the way I use to hands to cutaway. The other cutaway It was a terminal deployment with no RSL on a super stable position. I had a full line twist, go figure. I do not want to start another RSL thread by the way, just give you the story. Memento Audere Semper 903

Nice. I climbed the north face at the end of march 1993. We actually tried it once before but the weather crapped out. It's a tough one for sure. Now really I just want to jump from it Memento Audere Semper 903

Zed's dead. Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead. I don't play video games but I guess it would be cool. Features like making big ways, WS jumps, introducing rand () variables to get line overs, line twists, canopy collisions. But you might end up with an ordinary "boring" game and we don't want that. Of course you can improve things by adding features like running away from cops, shooting NPS with fully auto AK47s. You know things like that. Then the more illegal you become the less you can participate in events, the less people want to jump with you, the more cops after you and things like that. But if you make a very high profile jump while the FBI is after you and you get away you earn more points. You definitely should be able to kill people and other jumpers, swear like a dog, get into fights, temper other people's gear, suck them low, shoot them in FF, steal their gear and girlfriends, disguise yourself as NPS and shoot everybody, jump off cliffs with cars, motorcycles, then jump off the vehicle and shoot the gas tank in FF and open the canopy in the explosion. Well you get the idea. Don't make it too real or it will be boring. You need an outlaw and delinquent environment to make it really cool. Call it OUTLAW BASE! Memento Audere Semper 903

Jaap while I respect and think highly of you I have to disagree with your statement at least in part. It's not about the "macho" by any means, it's the attitude. Dude, I've screamed like a baby when I broke myself in half! John buddy, it's not really the jump itself or what you have done in the past. Your phone call and the TV interview really told me a lot about your character even if I have never met you. I already said you come across as not a very smart individual but not malicious, maybe I am wrong about that. However, I for one would never be on the same load with you. If I decide to jump with someone I have to trust the person to keep his/her cool under ANY circumstance, and that's what separates the men from the boys. The way I see it, going on a BASE jump is like going in the tranches, you really have to trust your buddies especially when the shit hits the fan. As you already know, in BASE the shit hits the fan so hard it splashes miles away. I already said that I would not trust you with a potato gun in your hands and I mean it. About all those skydiving accomplishments of yours, good for you, really, but the contest here is BASE not skydiving; do you see the difference? I do not judge you, I am in no position to judge anyone but I do judge your actions/reactions. Memento Audere Semper 903
