Funny stuff Nick, as usual. If I was forced to make a decision between jumping with a drunk or a stonter I'd take the stoner any day of the week Memento Audere Semper 903

I knew Nick would come in and properly articulate it for me! I agree with him 100%. I see Tandems as "roller coaster" rides with very little learning opportunity no matter how hard as instructors we try to make them so. I do understand the motives for the tandem progression but those motives have nothing to do with Student's progression in mind, they have the good old buck in mind. I am not even a fan of the full blown AFF program. Again, 5 S/ls or 5 IADs as the first five jumps and then up with one AFF instructor... Memento Audere Semper 903

I teach it and do not like it. Call me old scholl but I like the first 5 jumps to be S/L... Memento Audere Semper 903

I'm debating the same. My WS rig has an Alpha 99 and when things go wrong go wrong fast! I was thinking about a Spectre 120 with a mash slider...and then starting to pull lower...just to keep things interesting! Memento Audere Semper 903

The new R-max, the Smart, and the PDR are all great modern reverves that will even tollerate dumb-ass overloading. I'd jump any of those. Just keep mine below 1.3 Memento Audere Semper 903

$500 Cash If You Can Provide the NPS Jumper Suspect List
nicknitro71 replied to base428's topic in Archive
That's too funny! I'm going to mail you a fake list and cash the dough! Please send money to JoeRanger@nps.gov They really got under your skin this time around, didn't they Jason? Memento Audere Semper 903 -
Chris, The RDS is nothing but a couple of loops on the removable slider to attach the d-bag via a spectra loop, that's all. You can get a removable slider, use it as it is and then if you want you can try the RDS. Joe Bennett makes what it is IMHO the best sytem on the market. Memento Audere Semper 903

Well said, I could not agree more. Now, how do we as a community change the attitude of those jumpers? Is getting hurt the only way of learning? Memento Audere Semper 903

I'm with Tom. If I need a 46 there is no need to go stowed. The biggest I go stowed is 42. I also noticed hesitations with a vented apex 46 (z-po). IMO a non-vented in the 46-48 range is superior. I also do not like any handle or disk in those sizes (46-48). My current 46 is z-po, has no handle, no disk, and the symmetrical attachment point. Memento Audere Semper 903

I was not my best option it was my only option and only dictated by my personal choice. I was a very good candidate for Lasik but strongly opted not to after 6 months of research I've done before letting a MD cutting and burning my eyes so I could see better. I respect what you do for a living yet I still do not agree with you. There are much more severe long term side effects with Lasik than Lasek or PRK that's why military pilots are not allowed to have Lasik being performed but they have the OK for PRK. Heck I even go with the old radial keratotomy before going with Lasik! Memento Audere Semper 903

The flap as you said is epithelium tissue that WILL regenerate w/in one month sometimes sooner. Yes it hurts, yes for two weeks the vision is very bad, yes it takes at least one month to see well, yes you have to take more drops for loger time (three months) but in the end there is no permanent plane in the cornea. I was in pain for three days and had bad vision for one week. Is that too much of a price to avoid long term side effects? The reason why is not that popular is because it is not FDA approved yet; more a political thing than anything else because Lasek was not developed in the US... There is strong evidence now that the corneal flap never heals after Lasik. There are better alternatives, do you really want to risk a flap displacement years after the surgery? It is rare but why risk it? Just my 0.02 Memento Audere Semper 903

I strongly disagree. There is no way I am jumping with a 99 reserve and no way I am up-sizing to a 150 main. The smallest I would go on a reserve is around 130-135. Memento Audere Semper 903

After reading of post-mortem studies on Lasik patients I just said no! Apperently the corneal flap never fully heals. They've got LASEK nowdays that offers the advantages of Lasik w/out the corneal cut and has better outcomes than PRK. Just my 0.02. Memento Audere Semper 903

I don't agree. Have it checked for acid mash, and other known bugs. If it's a sound canopy I'd jump it. You can try canopy transfer with it Phantoms are great rounds by the way and at your weight it should land you just fine, just don't forget to PLF! Memento Audere Semper 903

It's all relative to the length of the lines too...Longer lines (usually bigger canopies) more shrinkage for the same number of jumps than shorter lines. The other side of the coin is that small canopies are more susceptible to trim than big ones. On my Spectra lined canopies (sub 100) my mark is one inch. I am not a fan of Spectra by any means. We have much better alternatives nowadays, read HMA...and of course the good-old dacron for those who don't care about performance or bigger canopies...I'd go with dacron for anything bigger than 170... Memento Audere Semper 903

4.8 cm is quite a lot! For those imperial guys is roughly 1 7/8"! I usually reline my canopies pass the 1" mark and switch to HMA. Memento Audere Semper 903

Good thing is was not a BASE jump... Memento Audere Semper 903

No doubt I pass on that especially on a small canopy. Memento Audere Semper 903

T-10 (ask an old person what this is)
nicknitro71 replied to skyjump11's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Same here, about 500' with no reserve over Mogadishu in 1994. I did not know any better then. Now I do the same thing, just with a different canopy. I guess I still do not know any better I got enough T-10 jumps than my back wants to remember Memento Audere Semper 903 -
