There really is a lot of waiting in this sport, or at least time spent on the ground. That won't ever change. Weather, aircraft issues, big ways and tandems hogging the loads. It actually becomes part of the fun and learning when you turn the tables and realize that being on the ground is a great chance to watch and learn, listen and learn, ask questions and learn. Some schools will crank out an A license quicker than others. In the long run you might want to accept that being on the ground has its benefits. skydiving is an investment of both money and time, you can change the ratio between the two. Spend more money to do something in less time OR spend more time to do it in less money. There are many paths to the same destination. I tend to agree that more all around exposure is a better, but also I have seen some jumpers with 1000's of belly jumps be out flown by someone on jump 210. At Wingsuit jump 100 they will probably both be in a similar place I don't think this is a topic where everyone will agree but the rainbow is full of color. I can see how putting someone out earlier reduces the concern over an aggressive dive. In my example of a 6 way the dive shouldn't be crazy. Of course even a floater can have a bad exit and then end up in a dive. I don't think anyone here is making a case for putting a novice into a big group. This is a good conversation, it has me thinking for sure and that's a good thing. One of the problems with organizing on the road is that not everyone is a "known entity". Take a common scenario where you are at an event and have a 6 way flying nicely and then someone with "50" Wingsuit jumps turns up. I think the options are: - turn the guy away - break up the group - take the guy out for a 2 way - put them in the formation If the choice is made to put them in the formation I would put them at the back and make it clear the objective isn't to get there at all costs but to fly relative to the group. That way if I am flying video I can observe them. In my mind putting them up front can cause chaos for more folks and increases the risk. Is it right? I don't know, sometimes you make decisions that turn out to be wrong and you have to adjust based on the specifics. I don't want an over amped pilot anywhere in a formation that's for sure. There might not be a right generic answer. It "depends". At the end of the day it is about minimizing accidents and fatalities. I agree with Jarno as it depends what you want to do with the suit. The S is truly fantastic in performance and has a wide range from flocking to solo performance. P2 to S is a big jump. I thought that particular question was potentially open to interpretation as to how many you should select. Is it just the most important or all that are important. Or perhaps I misread the question! For those that haven't seen it the question is: 5. What are the most critical items to include in your gear check when wingsuiting? -Three rings are correctly attaching your main to your rig -Chest strap correctly routed and tightened -All handles are correctly in place - Main, Cutaway and Reserve -Leg straps are correctly buckled, on and tightened -Wingsuit is sized correctly, attached to rig correctly and zipped up correctly I can't pretend to be a professional survey writer but I think this one is a bit of a trick. They are check boxes so you can select more than one but I didn't put an "All of the above" option because I thought it would be too easy. I am looking for someone to check all of them. It is still a skydive using the same equipment as before. The ones I really talk to are the ones that ONLY put legstraps. If you don't check your handles or 3 rings that is a more personal issue and after all you are an experienced skydiver! The survey isn't a pass or fail. They were burdened with a small lecture on the importance of avoiding hitting things. Except one had an excuse that he only jumps a skyvan....clever. There are some interesting stats and also some personal conclusion I have come to regarding some of the data. Will be glad to share. The average number of skydives by a customer is a lot higher than most people would guess I think. 817 with 177 in the last 12 months. If I had to guess without seeing that number I would have expected something more like 250-300. I always worry that people are so focused on the leg strap check that they would neglect other checks. Of 112 people that correctly said they would check leg straps 8 failed to mention that they would also check chest strap, handles and suit. There is more but I will have to drip feed it.
