  10. heeey, wait a minute. Being the skydiver that you are, I think someone has two first's going on. Life might be telling you that you need to drink more beer.
  11. Welcome! Have my favorite beer (Cerveza) and chalk it up as some of life's lessons. Even if we don't always understand them at first, we always learn something. Actually, drink one for me too! My week's not so good either. Keep your chin up and cheers!

  14. Congrats!!! Range? As in a german Range?!?
  15. Just had to add in something that is funny to me...if I don't like the "dz" I'm currently jumping at, I go to one of the two next door. Literally. There are three concessions on one drop zone. How cool is that. I dig the staff from all three too. So right now, I have 4 dzs that I call home so far. Yes, it does take time. And yes, it is intimidating at first. But, no it won't stop me from visiting other dzs or staying long term at a new dz. I can be extremely shy at first, and some folks take that as being stuck up. It sucks. So everytime I've forced myself to initiate a conversation at a new dz, it seemed to break the internal barrier even more, because all that came back was positive. And if I'm still not discussing this thread the way you wanted it to turn, don't worry, I won't attempt anymore. Third time's a charm.
  16. Personally, by visiting other dzs, I was not intimidated that I would lose respect or love from family from the home dz. Actually, they (fellow staff) visited other dzs as well for boogies or just to have an adventure together. Mini-vacations away from the norm.
  17. I usually ignore dz politics because I get focused on jumping and having fun. I do feel the heart strings tug when I think of the dz I grew up at and the family I love very much. But going to different dzs is a positive thing, imho. Even family from the dz I grew up at has split a bit in different directions. What's awesome is that I know I'm going to run into them at another dz down the road. It's important to keep the core friendships. I also think going to another dz gives you an entire different vibe and perspective and allows you to grow as a person. Adding new bonds after spending some time there is worth it. It's like a big web that stretches across the world with new adventures around the corner.
  18. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html not exactly the same text message, but nonetheless...describes what the file is.
  19. Know this is not helpful with statistics, but my mom has made a few jumps, static and tandem. While she understands it, my father was concerned and worried, told me to stop whenever he got the chance. Things changed a bit when I asked him to come watch me jump, which he did, came to the dz and watched me pack, I explained how my rig worked, equipment specifics and safety being the focal point. I sent him a video of a jump as well. Now is he still concerned, but not so much as before. He's even told me he showed the video to his friends, and told them how proud he was of me. Just sharing something that helped me with my dad.
  20. ouch. oo..ouch Someone a while back suggested I take off my wedding ring. While I take off all other jewelry (or usually don't wear any other jewelry to the dz to begin with), that one was an internal dilemma. I don't want to lose a finger, and I don't want to take off my wedding ring. (it's a love thing, not the ring itself) Any thoughts?
  21. The exact reason why I jump. Not only is it fun, skydiving also puts life in perspective..what's important, what's not. After a jump, no matter what's happened throughout the last week, it doesn't matter. Living life matters. Breathing matters. Family and friends matter. Fun matters. Skydiving, in itself, changes a person more than a skydiver can express to another. Life becomes simple. There's no complexity. The extended family in skydiving is a bonus and a blessing. There's a lot of reasons why I jump. I can think of another while I'm replying...meeting new people that come through the dz. Such interesting people that become friends and influence you. Change your perspective on something for life, even when you felt a certain way for most of your life. And even when they haven't visited your dz, I've seen some things on this forum from folks that I've taken in and respected after thought. Cheers, and nice post! Thanks for putting a smile on my face tonight by encouraging me to dig into the core of why I skydive. PS - just thought of another reason! ah, man, nevermind...the list could go on and on...let's just say I've become more open minded in a positive way. (edited to correct grammar, ok not the best grammar to an English major )
