  1. muhahaha...this thread will never die! j/k We haven't moved in yet. August 22nd. Just wondering how much I'm going to have to pay to move the phone and cable over. Bah. I have plenny links to share! One of my favorites is: http://www.attrition.org/ Of course, I like this one: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/resources/ I cruise the forums here: http://www.arstechnica.com This one is excellent for security reference: http://www.securityfocus.com/ This is a great site for hardware reviews: http://www.tomshardware.com/ And for shopping, I go here (cheap!): http://www.newegg.com If I think of anything else, I'll certainly share. The developers don't really move much. Sometimes, I pelt them with this little squeegy Oracle football I have. It's soft enough not to puncture. And as how I got into skydiving, just wanted to try it while I was still young. Speaking of, I'm a quarter of a century old today!
  2. No. We've been getting ready to move to the North Shore though. We've got a new place! The only downfall is we've seen what the salt air does to computers. Next weekend fo' sure, get a few jumps in. How about you, did you jump? Thanks for the links! I like the look of your site too. As far as appreciating developers, I work with a few developers who created our in-house database software that works with Oracle. So, I understand some of the work that they live and breathe. They're always working to improve it.
  3. You know I just bought this tank top that says "SMac OS" with a little Mac icon on it. It was either that or the "Crap OS" with the little Mac icon. What the hell does the "i" stand for? iDisk, iChat, hehe. Actually, I tried to help a friend learn the Mac OS, he just bought a new system. I suck at navigating in Mac. Guess I need to play around with one for awhile.
  4. hehehe. Yea, ebay's the way to go. I don't own that Sun Netra, I just get to borrow it. I was a little concerned with a $10k machine sitting in my apartment though, so I brought back to work and still use it (aka try to crash it ) Wow. The first pc I used was a Commodore 64. I've only been using unix for the last 3 years. I think the earliest language I learned was Pascal. And the first file and print server was a Novell 3.12. Yes, it does. You are very committed! Kudos! I'd like to learn more about scripting. It just takes time. You must be a very patient geek.
  5. I completely agree with finding a mentor, and with so many other thoughts you listed in your last post. I don't want to be extravagant with a relatively large quote (the entire post), so I'm just going to say a big RIGHT ON and it's a good read for other geeks (regardless of their level of knowledge). /\ || || Good read is farther up. || I use Solaris 8 and 2.6 at work. We also have SGI boxes and I've used a little IRIX. I've played around with Red Hat 7.1 and Mandrake (8?). And I really dig Ximian Gnome. My main source of learning came from installing Solaris 8, Veritas Volume Manager, and Veritas NetBackup 4.5 to configure a new backup server (E250). That was a really good learning experience. I feel spoiled, since we do have support with both Sun and Veritas (even though Veritas support isn't all that from what I've experienced). So, as far as free software goes and no support, you are very talented to be able to do it. I tried setting up Apache one time at home on a Sun Netra T1, using Solaris 8, but I became frustrated with my cable modem connection. Everytime I rebooted, my server lost its ip config. And I know I had my hosts file, resolv.conf, nsswitch.conf, hostname.hme0, and defaultrouter set up. And even though the cable modem company delivers dhcp, the ip doesn't change for a good six months. I'm sure the right config is out posted on the net. But I want to jump on the weekends! How long have you been using unix?
  6. ouch! ego is smeared. hey, I'm drinkin'. I really do work with Solaris everyday. Ah, that's alright. School me! I don't have an ego. I learn everyday from egomaniacs like you! That is a compliment, btw, to a unix guru.
  7. ps -ef | grep more "jumps!" Still on Solaris 8... Can't wait to try out 9 though!! woohoo!!!!
  8. Not sure how they will handle a solo license, but I would encourage you to take the opportunity to jump regardless. I was on vacation a few years ago (checking the island out to see what it was like before moving) and didn't have my A license yet. Had made quite a few solo jumps before visiting. Still made a tandem jump and actually was awesome because I could just check out the view at the time and not stress about landing, or newbie concerns at a foreign dz. It was well worth it at the time. Just a thought. Even if you don't jump, there's plenty to see here.
  9. They can't believe it's not butter! "So, we're lookin fer two guys. One of them's kinda funny lookin, and he's not circumsized. Okee." - Fargo
  10. Oahu has three concessions on one drop zone located at Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia. They are: Pacific Skydiving Center Skydive Hawaii Air Tugie Productions All three have web sites out there. I jump at Pacific Skydiving Center. http://www.pacific-skydiving.com/ http://www.hawaiiskydiving.com/hawaiiskydiving/ http://www.dropzonehawaii.com/ The web sites don't seem to be updated that frequently. Too busy hanging outside enjoying the sunshine.
  11. Yo! Snootchies! Yea, when you coming out to Hawaii next? It's a little windy most days, but beautiful. Small landing area right between the ocean and the mountains. What else would you like to know?
  12. Ad Killer works well. www.tucows.com www.downloads.com
  13. ya, I know. That's what I meant. Both you and Sebazz are lucky. bah, where there's earth, sea, or sky it was made to play on. Course, running into a torpedo while they're loading the subs could be brutal (thinking of Pearl Harbor here).

ahh. That's not the regular old dried out crusted whip cream I smell. That's Cool Whip comin' your way!
  15. Long sleeve t-shirt and loose jeans from a 2nd hand shop, generic vans (I'm cheap! ) For some strange reason, jumpsuits are uncomfortable to me (I know they are very useful though), except for Da Kine freefly pants. Someday, when I have enough mula, I will get a pair. Getting air is the priority right now.
  16. Partly cloudy. 85 degrees. Winds E-NE 16mph. Hum 59%. Saturday and Sunday Mostly clear nights and sunny days except for isolated windward and Mauka trade showers. Lows 70 to 75. Highs in the mid to upper 80s. Trades 10 to 20 mph. always battling the winds.
  17. Here here!! And right on! I feel exactly the same way as jfields. Two thumbs up on this thread, btw, those earlier posts had my drink coming out my nose cause I could not stop from laughing.
  18. ------------- I second that. And man, I wish I could ride my bike to work.
  19. hehe. If this move was made, the dz would be literally across the street! woohoo! Funny thing is, my boss is actually interested too after bringing it up in conversation. He keeps asking me what people do for a living that live there because he'd like to live there too. Ha. If I play my cards right, maybe I can start a new business with the boss! How weird is that. (edited because my grammar sucks when I'm posting and working at the same time...) geez, maybe I should go work for a hotel. That is awesome. so, are the hookers free too? j/k!
  20. Thinking about moving an hour away from work to live on the North Shore beach of Oahu (we're talking, right on the beach). Traffic sucks here, but there are "windows" of time that can keep it to an hour and fifteen minute commute. It's 62 miles round trip. So, I'm curious, how far does everyone else commute to work?
  21. baby steps..think baby steps. lmao. That would be a blazin' circus if I tried it. I'd surely do myself harm. Good point! Thanks.

Skysurfing, yes. But they don't have it anymore. I dunno why they ditched skysurfing.
  23. During 4th of July, gravity and I spent a couple of days watching Matt Hoffman, Fabiola Da Silva, Chris Gentry, and Eito and Takeshi Yasutoko here. Now it's like that car commercial, where the guy's got a new car on his mind and it literally keeps growing on his head. I want a portable ramp that will fit in my trunk. And I've seen them online, but geez, so expensive. I'd rather build my own. Just a little launch ramp. So, does anyone have advice on building it? Materials to use, etc? I'll be using inline skates. But, I don't mind if friends use it with their skateboards. Maybe use particle board and have Home Depot cut it for me?
