  1. Dolphin was made by alitico but I think they were bought out by another company recently. A d-2 is made for a 160 Reserve 170 Main. Ask him what size the harness is to see if it will fit you. Small Up to 5'4" 100 - 130 lbs. Medium 5'5" - 5'7" 140 - 160 lbs. Medium - Large 5'8" - 5'10" 170 - 180 lbs. Large 5'11" - 6'1" 190 - 210 lbs. X - Large 6'2" - 6'4" 220 - 240 lbs. XX - Large 6'6" 250 lbs Also check and see if it was been modified to be freefly friendly if you intend on going that route later in your jumping career.
  2. that landing looked like it hurt A LOT. I think the others who saw it thought the same thing. Winds were getting crazy when he landed so I'm glad they put A&B license holders on a wind hold for a little. There was a good amount of people landing on their butt though at the boogie.
  3. From the SIM: I prefer #1. Pilot chute in tow procedure 1: Pull the reserve immediately. A pilot-chute-in-tow malfunctions is associated with a high descent rate and requires immediate action. The chance of a main-reserve entanglement is slim, and valuable time and altitude could be lost by initiating a cutaway prior to deploying the reserve. Be prepared to cutaway. Pilot chute in tow procedure 2: Cut away, then immediately deploy the reserve.Because there is a chance the main parachute could deploy duringor as a result of the reserve activation, a cutaway might be the best response in some situations.
  4. bought my tickets, I'm feeling lucky this year!
  5. sounds like a good discussion topic between you and your instructors!
  6. When I got my coach rating there were 6 other people in the course with me. I jump at a small Cessna DZ where at that time I was worried that everyone would be able to do enough coach jumps to stay current. By the end of the year there was only 2 of the 6 left at the dz so we were able to stay current. We just had another coach course at my DZ and it had 5 people in it. If everyone stays at the DZ it could be tough for everyone to get their coach jumps to stay current. If they are still getting something out of the jumps they are doing with the experienced jumpers that is great. I.e having another experienced jumper play bad student/give tips on debriefs then it only helps the coach. (Yes this is just like the evals jumps in the course) Now if they are going out messing around doing free-fly or horny gorilla type dives I wouldn't think they would get something out of it in terms of a coaching a student. I guess it comes down to what is actually happening on the "coach" jumps if this is a good change.
  7. Ha ha. _You_ don't need to sign a piece of paper, but the S&TA does. The S&TA needs to file the waiver in writing on the waiver form in the SIM, then send it to the USPA Regional Director and USPA Headquarters. (USPA SIM section 2-2, para C.) Mark For every other BSR you need to do that but not for this one. From Ed Scott: To allow those good reasons, the board motion allows Safety and Training Advisors to waive the BSR on a jump-specific basis. If there is a low ceiling and the airplane can’t get above 2,500 feet for low exits or accuracy jumps or if the same low ceiling threatens a demo or if the big-way attempts need a little more room at the bottom to ensure adequate separation, then the S&TA simply waives those specific jumps from the BSR. There is no required paperwork or time spent waiting on someone else’s approval. However, DZ-wide or season-long waivers are not the intent.
  8. You can change your activation altitude on certain AAD's already if you want. You don't need to sign a piece of paper to do a h&p at 2k, all the S&TA needs to do is say it is waived on that specific jump
  9. measure your current d-bag and give upt a call
  10. Ari is a great coach, but is a terrible student!!! I've never seen a student so bad before. Throw him against the wall in the tunnel one time and he will straighten up though
  11. looks like a combination of the infinity bag with the tabs from the upt bag. I just have the UPT semi stowless bag in my wings
  12. I used that same setup until I changed the 18-55 mm lens to a 10-22 and the go pro couldn't fit under the lens attached mine now. picture not the greatest, go pro flipped upside down. Mount the low profile mount a little below your camera lens, add the extender mount.
  13. Why would you need a BSR for that if you already have Sec. 105.7 in the SIM for that?
  14. maybe you get a mount similiar to this http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/gopro-low-pro-mount Mount it towards the bottom lip of your helmet infront of your lens. Turn the gopro upside down. I did it on my optik helmet and it worked. I have a picture of it somewhere i think
  15. a pilot will pack bigger than a sabre in the same size.
  16. it sucks that you are having an issue. I've been jumping aerodyne canopies for 2 1/2 years and have had no problems with their customer service. One question, did you ask for a demo free of charge or were you ok with their price to get a demo?
  17. you probably will be extremely sore but it's possible. Really depends on how much time you fly out of each session and how much time you can spend at the tunnel. you can do 10 minute sessions spread throughout the day would probably be your best bet
  18. I guess mine is the exception to the rule with the riser flap coming undone :( Working with them to find a solution to the problem. I've had both mirage and infinity and like them both. You can use your creativity with infinity as they team up with liquid sky. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them
  19. call infinity it is the party bag option (I believe). With there bag you can use it as a normal bag or semi-stowless. I have around 500 jumps with my semi-stowless bag and won't go back to any other bag. Have a UPT semi-stowless in my wings and the infinity one in my infinity. I prefer the UPT bag over the infinity one though
  20. I have the rebel t3i and it is on the side, another camera guy here has a t2i and his is on side as well.
  21. When mounting a side mount box for a cx150 do you want it to be level or slightly pointed up? i have a optik 210 helmet. Will have a .3 opekta fisheye lens on the cx150 (if that matters) I will be doing mostly tandems with this setup
  22. How have you dives been before this one happened? The instructor could have been closer and stopped the spin as soon as it started to happened. Once you get into a spin like that it only gets worse and worse and the student usually floats up and can easily get away from instructors. Note: I am not an AFF instructor so I could be way wrong, but that would be my guess
  23. 1st rig came with a sabre 2 170, bought a 2nd rig with a pilot 168, put around 500 jumps on those 2 canopies, now have a pilot 150 and have put almost 200 on it.
  24. on the micron there is only 1 flap that covers the reserve pin, it has a couple tuck tabs to keep it secure. if you check you reserve pin before every jump how is it going to be any different from your current rig. open the flap in the morning and turn the cypress on, after that check your reserve pin as you normally do (peeking through the side) do you really need to check the cypress before every jump? i dont really understand the problem? You do if your cypres falls in the service bulletin that requires you to
