Moving Violations... Fight them or Accept Them?
Samurai136 replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
Folks, when you get caught, suck it up. If you are wrongly accused, fight tooth and nail. Amen! One of my friends has a lead foot and he knows it. A few years ago he told me his trick for getting out of speeding tickets. He is a God fearing Christian who goes to church every Sunday. Officer: Do you know how fast you were going? Friend: Uh, yeah, I was going 75mph. I'm sorry, I know the speed limit is 55mph. O: Why were you going so fast? F: I Don't know, I guess I just had my head up my ass. O: Excuse ME! F: I... Had My Head... Up My Ass. I'm sorry. Over time LEO's have tended to let him go with a warning. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
Is there anything almost as good as skydiving?

Hmmm... so beer drinking is out. Find a good video game and play it a lot. Maybe a first-person shooter? "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
I have a '95 Del Sol Si. I feel your pain. The collision didn't set off your airbags did it? The previous owner of my Del Sol had a front end collision and set off the airbags. The cost to replace the airbags (honda parts) was more than half the value of the vehicle so the insurance company totaled the car. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Tandem/Video Skydiver Salaries
Samurai136 replied to Tito.J's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Generally, instructors are not paid a salary (X$/year). Instructors are paid for piece work (X$/ jump). The instructor is only making money when they are jumping. The national average seems to be about $30/ jump for an instructor. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken -
In all fairness they should prove they are ineligible. Send admission photo's to my e-mail. "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

First ER Visit...this ever happen to anyone else?
Samurai136 replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Once upon a time, actually I think it was last season, I knew a jumper that had a few hard openings and kept jumping. Eventually this jumper began complaining of back pain weeks later. Turned out the jumper had fractured a few vertibrae. It was difficult to determine if the fractured vertibrae were cause by playing softball or a few hard openings on a Sabre. Either way, the treatment involved something like 6 months of no jumping and no physical exertion. i.e. no carrying groceries or lifting anything; sitting in a car for more than an hour was painful. I practice my signature before I sign my tandem passenger's first jump certificate. I normally have good penmanship skills but occasionally (after several back to back jumps) my signature looks like an illiterate 5 year old... "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Explore the upper limits of the S2000 on the track. Goto one of the SCCA drivers schools. The S2000 becomes a fierce racing machine when you hold it over 6000rpms thru the gears... You shouldn't have any problems getting dates either. Unless you're driving to fast! "Buttons aren't toys." - Trillian Ken

Congrats on the AFF rating! Did the other candidates pass? I think my teammate was in the same AFF course.

If the FAA finds a rigger has repacked a reserve with a Cypres Battery that will expire in less than 120 day repack cycle, what do we tell them when they pull this out? SSK letter head; Cypres News July 2006 "CYPRES-1 Battery: The CYPRES-1 battery assembly must be replaced every 2 years, after 500 jumps, or when the low battery error code (8998 or 8999) is displayed - whichever occurs first. If you are returning a CYPRES-1 to SSK for any type of servicing and the battery has been in the CYPRES longer than 21 months (i.e., if there is less than 3 months left on the 2 year period), the battery will be replaced. Please remove and dispose of expired batteries from CYPRES prior to shipping to SSK." This seems to suggest by Airtec/ SSK's standards the battery should always be in-date for the complete duration of the repack cycle. Obviously this is not an issue with cypres-2.
