Women accuse Morgan Freeman of inappropriate behavior, harassment
Bob_Church replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, damn! Now you tell me! I never brought 'luudes, so I must have missed a lot of opportunities. What I find really worrisome is all the things that we, the public, know. We know that he slipped them to the women, we know that he's raped lots of other women. We really need to remember what happened to Roscoe Arbuckle because of the things that everyone KNEW about him. There's a great summary on Wikipedia about it. I think everyone should read it again every now and then. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe_Arbuckle -
Speaking of kids getting guns "CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago firefighter has been charged with gun violations after his 14-year-old daughter posted a photo of herself online posing with his assault-style rifle. The photo carried a message: "Don't worry, I won't shoot up Lane," referring to Chicago's Lane Tech College Prep High School. It's unclear when she posted the picture. The Chicago Tribune says the 60-year-old firefighter was cited for failing to secure a weapon from a minor and possessing an assault rifle in the city. His daughter hasn't been charged. Security at Lane Tech called police after the photo appeared on Snapchat. It isn't clear if the girl is a student at the school. Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Emily Bolton says there was no credible threat. She says families were assured in a letter Wednesday." http://www.wavy.com/news/firefighter-charged-after-daughter-posts-photo-holding-rifle/1214557529

There are people who don't believe that law enforcement can take your property like this. So they grow a few plants. Then you see their house, land, automobile and everything else for sale at Sheriff's auction. It's a regular form of Revenue Enhancement in Southeast Ohio. There was a guy in Albany (that is, Village of, outside Athens OH, who had a big and very successful furniture business. He sold oak furniture to restaurants. Beautiful stuff. He also sold a few bags on the side. Or maybe he didn't. But nearly every day I walk past where his business used to be before the Sheriff's office took it. He was a somewhat successful businessman so his wife gets interviewed in the local alternative paper and she says neither of them can get over the fact that they could just seize everything they owned. Which they did. When these show up in the court reports in the paper the defense tends to follow one of two routes. One is that they didn't know. The second is that the law can't do it, no matter what, because it's not constitutional. Both arguments carry the same amount of weight, which is zip.

Civil forfeiture is a textbook case of how ignorance of the law will not help you. I wonder how tired judges get of someone explaining to him that they can't be arrested for what they are being sentenced for because "hey, it's on the interent dude, like, our constitution and stuff. I've got a link on my phone that will show you that you're wrong."
-
From the things Nick says the paperwork, expenses and stuff required for buying explosives has gotten downright overwhelming.
-
I find that a little confusing since, at least around here, they've made no secret of the fact that the seized stuff becomes theirs. In fact if you have too many payments left on your car they won't seize it since the bank will come after it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the US Constitution covers property rights. That's a big part of the problem. This isn't a criminal procedure, it's civil. I honestly think that Miami Vice was in large part responsible for this starting, though I'm not saying they meant to. When this was being started we'd see news shows loaded down with clips from Miami Vice showing criminals using their ill gotten gains to protect themselves from any consequences of their crimes as they lounged about in their mansions and traveled by private jets. "We'll show them! Then the first victim I read about was a black man with a small landscaping business he ran out of his ancient pickup truck. He carryed cash for buying shrubbery. They seized the money based on the fact that he had it. This has to be one of the most abused and downright evil policy law enforcement has used since someone took their rubber hoses away. Edit: I wasn't really looking at the situation in this case, just the whole civil forfeiture thing. We have this group of yahoos in Southeast Oh, all LEOs but ones who don't care for much structure in how they work. Or rules, or rights or anything. They formed a group and any county that will let them work within their boundaries is assued that they won't have to pay them anything. They live strictly on forfeiture. Thrive, actually. I'm proud to say that Athens county threw them out, way too many abuses, but I think they're still going strong in surrounding counties.

Cable guy has customer who won't take No for an answer
Bob_Church replied to Bob_Church's topic in The Bonfire
Cable guys says "no" she keeps pushing, and gets arrested. As you'd expect there are a lot of jokes at the cable guy's expense on Facebook but according to the article a lot are from women. http://www.wbtv.com/story/38260917/nc-woman-arrested-for-coming-onto-the-cable-guy-during-service-call-police-say -
The series finale aired last night and I'm afraid to even turn on the radio. I've got two more episodes left before I get to it and I'm trying to miss the spoilers.

Sometimes it isn't that difficult. I was talking about stealing them, but if you've got the cash there are other options. I know I posted this before but I think it's important to remember that we don't really know how often this sort of thing is going on. This is why I think plans that involve keeping people in the US from getting a gun don't have any chance of succeeding. Lots of guns is a reality here and we have to look for other ways of dealing with the problem. That is, unless we drastically seize and melt down over 95% of the guns that already exist and shut down production. But the thing to remember then is we're talking about having the people who don't like guns take them away from the people who have guns. I can see a snag there.

BillyVance's "You Can't Make This Up" News Stories Thread
Bob_Church replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
In alt.folklore.urban we'd get people posting about things like the guy who accidentally shot his own dick. The story was that he woke up and was really groggy and saw someone in his bedroom doorway. He pulled a 22 out of somewhere and shot, only to discover that what he was looking at was his dick and he'd just shot it. When anyone would call bullshit on it they'd back it up with a copy of the police report. They honestly thought that that made it true. The one I'm talking about here happened in Logan Oh and I worked with some guys up there. Mr. Penis was showing himself to the wrong woman. Her husband put a 22 round through the guy's dick and promised that if he turned him in or saw his wife again he'd come back with a 12 gauge. There was another one making the rounds, this one even ended up in News of the Weird now and then about a guy who accidentally cut his hand off, in several places if I remember correctly, using a radial arm saw. The pain was so bad, he said, that he tried to kill himself by shooting nails into his head from a nail gun. Short nails, nothing lethal. Whenever that showed up in mainstream news we'd get flooded with that one along with proof in the form of a police report. I can just see Paulie and Silvio from The Sopranos cutting him up then a few nails, warning him that if he didn't pay the $50k he owed in gambling debts they'd come back and cut more off. -

On the off chance that you or anyone else on here would read the link I posted or the ones I posted previously you might see what I'm saying. And the constant "who said that" might end. But I'm not optimistic about any of those things. -

Right. And some women are into rape fantasies. That doesn't mean rape is OK. CONSENT is the issue. It should be, yes. But when a juror says that when he heard that Cosby had given women qualuudes that was enough for him. I find that worrisome. Here's one of many accounts of that statement. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-bill-cosby-jury-decision-20180430-story.html It feels so circular. "He's admitted giving the women qualuudes. But some women want qualuudes. Oh, well, but it was still rape by forcing them on the women. Where did you get that he forced them on the women? Aren't you listening? He's admitted giving the women qualuudes. " -

Bill Cosby against The People Statement 1: The only reason to give a woman qualuudes is to make her unable to resist. Bill Cosby has admitted to giving women Qualuudes before sex. So, there is only one possibility. Bill Cospy used qualuudes to rape women. Reply to statement 1: That's not accurate. Many women say that qualuudes greatly enhance the pleasure they get out of sex and in fact would rather just not have sex if qualuudes aren't available. Statement 2. But that doesn't matter. If you look at statement 1 you'll see that Bill Cosby used qualuudes to rape women. -
Can you ask Dr. Amy whether racism is a side effect of taking Ambien? The question has come up. https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/30/health/ambien-roseanne-barr-racist-tweets-bn/index.html Ambien maker Sanofi: 'Racism is not a known side effect'

Every great once in awhile you get the diagnosis that you wanted to hear. This is great. Bob

Here in the UK, as part of the application process for a firearms licence, you are required to consent to having a medical. The written consent for this also includes a mandatory reporting clause that states that you understand and are giving permission for your doctor to inform the police if you are diagnosed with any psychiatric, mental health or physical condition which would affect your fitness to possess a firearm. But that still only applies to a gun that you get legally. Most people who do these mass shootings don't seem to plan on surviving it anyway so what's one more theft? The problem is that, in the UK, you need a valid firearms certificate to purchase anything firearms related - ammunition, reloading components, firearms and all sales are recorded. The certificate also lists what firearms you own and their serial numbers as well. Buy or sell a weapon and you have to report it, have the certificate amended and give the police the FAC number and details of the purchaser. Because of two events, Dunblane and Hungerford, we have quite severe restrictions on what we can shoot - no handguns (unless they have a 12" barrel and a permanently attached counterweight), shotguns restricted to a maximum of 3 rounds (2 in the magazine, 1 in the breech), no semi-automatic rifles (unless chambered for .22LR) and no restrictions on bolt-action rifles. You also have to have "good cause" to possess said firearms which is usually membership of a shooting club (usually at least 6 months before you apply for the FAC). You also, if I understand it correctly, have a fairly low number of firearms. There are large areas of the US, including the one where I live, where there are so many handguns that getting one is a non-issue. I can drive to any one of three or four friend's homes and pick up a couple of guns in less than half an hour. They'll be pissed when they find out I took them but if I'm going out in a blaze of glory it doesn't matter. That's why I think the idea of gun control laws won't do it. I'm not saying not to have any, but then we've had them since Jim Brady was shot in 1981. They do what little good they do, but trying to solve the problem with more or different laws is like polishing a turd. It's just not going to get any shinier. When it comes to school shootings I think there is a reason for the huge increase in the number of kids snapping and going after the gun they found while looking for their Dad's porn stash. It's the same reason for the surge in teen suicides and cutting and eating disorders and.... well, the list goes on. But nobody wants to look at that because it might tell us things what we really don't want to hear.

You know what, I'm pretty sure I remembered wrong and it was Veteran's Day. Sorry about that. I'll ask Neil next time I see him but now I'm pretty certain that it wasn't Memorial Day but Veterans'. The rest though, was the biggest mess Pburg had seen in a long time.

I think that anything he says is going to be closely scrutinized. But there are/were a lot of things he could have said that wouldn't 'sound bad'. But he chose to issue two statements. One a blatant commercial advertisement. The other was a statement that pretended that dead vets would approve of his job performance. NEITHER of them offered thanks for the sacrifice those vets made. NEITHER of them offered condolences to the friends and families of the dead vets. NEITHER of them was in any way respectful or grateful. They were all about him and him making money. Which are the only two things he cares about. He was going to lose either way, but then he went Lose Bigley!

I'm not into shit like that but if I were and something got stuck up my ass I would use the opportunity to go into the ER and complain that I was having trouble pooping and didn't know why. Also, I'll leave the entire cord attached trailing behind me. Hey, may as well just go with it. The old stick pilots used to say that if you had structural failure and knew you were going to die just drop your pants, sit on the stick and let them figure it out. -
All this talk about Trump reminded me of another Memorial Day disaster. It was a few years back but 'The Sizzlin' Steak House' in Parkersburg Wv announced a free meal for veterans and their families. By the way, one of the hardest things I've found to explain to non-English speakers is deliberate misspellings like this. I had a friend from Beirut. It drove him nuts and that's saying a lot considering where and when he grew up. But, back to the Pburg one. SSH is one of those all you can eat type restaurants. It's like unlimited minutes but with a fork. So once you get in there there's no big hurry to leave. Neil decided to take Joy and the kids but when traffic stopped, flat out stopped, while still a mile away they thought something might be wrong. It wasn't wrong exactly, no terrorist attack or gas leak, just lines of people clear down the sidewalk waiting to get in with a mile or more of cars from both directions trying to get close enough to stand in line. Or anywhere since the SSH sits at the border of Vienna and Pburg and nobody was going anywhere. According to Neil you'd have thought it was the last choppers leaving Saigon. Vienna is what used to be called a small bedroom community just outside of Parkersburg but first they built the Grand Central Mall and then every other retailer and restaurant in the known galaxy moved out there so there is a constant stream of heavy traffic between them and Parkersburg, but not that day. Nobody was going anywhere. Neil is stubborn, especially when it comes to a free meal but there are limits so they decided to drive on past the place and eat at the big Chinese place in Vienna Wv. Sure, just have your cargo type helicopter pick your car up. You can wave at the endless lines of cars below and the sea of people stubbornly waiting for their turn at the Hot Bar. Well, turn around. Nope, walled in. It was a long hungry afternoon while they waited hours to just drive away. It was a very memorable Memorial day.

This is where Trump's assistants earn every penny they make. They're in a can't win situation. Anything he says is going to sound bad coming from him and his background. But not saying anything is going to be ever worse. Well, probably. But either way, I'd want a huge paycheck for that job, the sort that lets you resign at the end of his term and hide on some island paradise for the rest of your life.

Completely off topic, but my favorite Lenin quote is "quantity IS a quality."
