Me you and John Rich's jobs have legitimate accountability due to our different jobs' nature; which is different than Goldman Sachs, for instance. They are in the Business word and the business is making money. It's about taking risks and everything involved in the industry has that not-so-small print (usually,it's in bold) that states that you can lose your ass ..er assets. Not even employees are protected here. Not to say some of these guys are innocent. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

They also make obscene billions making right decisions for their investors. No CEO can always make a right decision. IF we put an addendum in their contracts that would hold them 100%accountable to the shareholders (keep in mind we put a lot of demands on them to succeed 100% of the time anyway, even though it's impossible) we probably will have to pay them a much higher salary to stay on to conpensate for the losses they will have on their down times. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I wonder why gag orders were previously not persued as much as this was. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I doubt anyone ever reads the fine print. Seems one should hire an agent before consideration of re-enlistment. Yes we do. The fine print is quite simple (for reenlistment bonuses). If we can't finish up the time for whatever reason, we pay back, or DFAS stops payment, of our bonuses. In the Navy, we get our bonus in installments. If we are able to fullfill half our contract, then we are only allowed to collect half the bonus and owe the rest back. In another case, we were able get rid of a complete dirtbag worthless POS. When he was kicked out for having too many Physical Readiness failures (Food for freedom program), The DOD took all his separation pays to get their Reenlistment bonus back. He left the Navy with 300 dollars to his name. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

If you like the shotgun, try to get the shortest possible. I personally prefer handguns for indoors over any type of long weapon due to the bulkiness when clearing rooms. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I can relate to what you are trying to achieve with this candidate. I believe maybe that he would be better off meeting the other candidates with more thought out strategies. Maybe having more sound solutions to popular gripes of the People as the other does. Even if his platforms would be status-quo and generic as the others are, his percieved strenghts, honesty and historical successful legislation may be enough to stand out from the pack. He needs good marketing. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

You can have the best campaign in the world. You can have a good internet following. You can promise a "fresh change". But if your platform is described as this. . . . . .your credibility is destroyed. You may not need to have any knowledge of the Bretton-woods act but you have to understand that the gold standard can't be challenged without more of a cursory glance at what it means. Abolishing any organization because it is a beaurocracy, or you dont understand why it exists is a recipe for disaster. It will mean a big mess to clean up after he's fired. I don't know if he actually thinks he can get any of this stuff passed or if he is only saying it to attract a small group of voters, but sometimes changing something up doesn't always means its a good thing. This one has yet to learn where he can use the philosophies "change is good" or "a new fresh start" in the right places of his campaign to gather major support. so far, his campaign has a "true believer" feel to it. Not a good thing to collect voters. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

IKEA is more of a furniture store for apartment dwellers in college or early twenties who haven't bought their first home yet. It's an expanded K-mart furniture aisle. I went to IKEA once. I nearly had a Milton Waddams episode in there (. .okay, i'm gonna burn the place down. . .) It's a one-way maze throughout the first and second floors and you can't cut through anywhere to leave quickly. Plus, their meatballs suck ass. Maybe it's just the San Diego store only. Personally, I find Walmart and Target have better looking furniture for half the price with the same material value. They also keep the sidewalks free of Cadillacs by hiring great-great grand mother to greet you at the door. (matter of fact, hasn't Florida's population slowly declined with the success of Walmart?) In short, If you like to have the ambience of a safari trimmed Airstream trailor at home, this is the place for you. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Protesters block arms shipment coming BACK from Iraq
nanook replied to 1969912's topic in Speakers Corner
Did I just now read what appears to be a movement of "REMF" protesters. I can see the recruiting: Protester Recruit: Hi, I wanna change the world. My Professor showed me the light. Recruiter: Okay, So what are your desires? What do you want to get out of this? Protester Recruit: Oooh, I dunno. Maybe show how I feel. Recruiter: How about Megaphone holder. There's room for advancement to Talker and it gets you satisfaction of achievement. Protest Recruit: I don't know. That's on the front line. Sounds a bit risky. I want to earn cool points for college without having to get punched out by a Marine, you know? Recruiter: Ahh. I got something for you. Every good protest rally needs support. You'll be what we call a REMF. Here's your sign. Recruit: Oh, COOL!! I hope they read the infinite wisdom of this witty placard!! Recruiter: They're mostly MSC Merchant Marine employees, they could care less. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -
Saw these reviews and decided to wait till it goes to video. . . "a more appropriate title for Lions for Lambs" could be lamenting for liberals" "rather than reasoned thought and debate, the only thing this movie inspires is exasperation" "Robert Redford's smug, self-satisfied liberal weltschmerz anthem." "Robert Redford (who also directed), Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep might just as well have appeared on-screen for a couple of minutes with signs that said. 'War Is Bad', and been done with it. Saves everyone the cost of a ticket." "if there was ever a film that not only preached to the choir but threatened to put it to sleep, this is it." It dangerously sounds of Hollywood pretention. I'll wait for the video, which may come out sooner than later. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I sometimes wonder if their motivation was trully caused by bullying or perceived bullying. Were they really bullied, or were they were so off the wall annoying that others use whatever mechanism to get those two to quit annoying them. There were many that described them both as very creepy kids who made people feel slimy and uncomfortable. I have met a few people like this when I was younger and sometimes you can't help but be aggressive with them. They usually stop being weird around you when you do that. Later, I just learned to stop feeding the provervial "troll" and ignore them. Creepy defective people flying of the deep end and shooting people will not stop bullying. It will only rise suspicion against the World of Warcraft dragon shirt crowds. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

They aren't your enemy either. If there are turnarounds that are separated by "years", then possibly the time or technology to check things out then wasn't up to today's standards. You got to watch how those "new age" types advertise. They have no choice but to bash the FDA due to no real ability to come up with measurable superiority of their products (other than it costs a lot more). Same with bashing doctors. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Kind of hard to tell with the second one. For all we know, that woman's face could look like someone tried to put her burning face out with jackhammer. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

It was a fond memory of mine. . . It was that time of the year and the june bugs all of a sudden would come out, but never in June of course. All the neighborhood kids would get some string and make a small slip-knot and tie them foward enough to not intefere with their wings but between a pair of legs so it won't slide off. The other end would be tied to your middle finger. My big sister would tie one for me. Then we would walk around showing off our tethered pets. They wouldn't cooperate most of the time. Sometimes they would lazily buzz and fly alongside you with a little slack on the string. A heavier-than-air replacement for a balloon. But what would usually happen is they flew to the end of the string and you have a pendulum of buzzing death; the trajectory path always hitting someone else in the face or the top of one's head. It's like walking a chihuahua that can maneuver in three dimensions. It got more complicated when you tried to ride your bike: a hand-me-down pink girl's bike with a banana seat with cards in the spoke. do kids today see hand-me-downs? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Simunition! fun(ouch) times!! My baptism into the pain started with me playing the bad guy(with a 9mm against my shipmates with M16s). Those bastards did not have to empty their whole magazines on me. Thanks guys!! Despite all that, I had more fun than pain even though I had to convince my wife that I was not coming down with the ringworm. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

"Dark and Stormy Night" literature at its best....

Brings back childhood memories. I believe this was the contest Charles Shultz satired with his loveable beagle. How I loved Snoopy and his quest to finish his horrid novel. She had such beautiful brown eyes; brown like a cow ruminating on cud of cow-patty past. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln -
We like the freedom to choose our A-holes. the A-hole in Speaker's corner is a valued commodity and has earned his/her position. One cannot just come on board and demand to be an A-hole, you have to learn the art. If not, then you will be just another annoying person who will not be remembered. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I think Mr. Bernstein's words are spot-on. Hell, we have people posting shit here about Anna Nicole and Ellen Degeneris' dog, while our constitutional liberties are gradually being eroded. And then election after election we end up with complete asses for candidates, we complain about the system...and every four years the cycle continues. So what will it take for people to wake up? I have asked this question alot lately. It seems like most people are more concerned about lifestyles of the rich and famous that they are about things that matter like our rights, etc. I guess escapism vs. real-life ratios vary from people to people. I assume that those who are more satisfied in their positions in life, or a stakeholder of political decisions, will pay more attention to goings on than people dissatisfied in life looking to the tube for escapism. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
