jan 14-18 PIA symposium info roll call thread "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

I was planning to go to Deland after the PIA symposium. Maybe else where too. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

No pictures of mine. I'm not that close, but... Aqua and Terra I also use Jason for getting currents. normalized water leaving radiance- light leaving the water normalized/divided by light hitting the water. Using certain wavelengths of light the scientists can infer the optical properties of the water (absorption, backscatter,...) and ultimately the health of it. I took a lil postage stamp that shows where I where I jump, Lompoc Ca (Skydive Santa Barbara) and where I live, Goleta. Normally I deal with the temperature, chlorophyll, and normallized water-leaving radiances for these waters and satellites. I got to watch the satellites launched as they left from Vandenberg AFB near the DZ in Lompoc. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

It is MODIS, which has 250m resolution. zoomed I deal with sensor but, only for ocean color data, not land stuff. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

Looks like it could be MODIS off the satellites Terra and Aqua. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

I don't follow your post. Are you saying flat packing should be taught in a packing course, or just criticizing the packers at your dropzone? does "real" packer mean they have their riggers ticket? who should be teaching packing? 2 unsupervised pack jobs before you got your A?
fields replied to fields's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sorry- probably my mistake. That may be a particular dz policy- not an A-license requirement. Or it might be one version of the yellow sign-off card that I've seen. -
2 unsupervised pack jobs before you got your A?
fields replied to fields's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If a rigger offered you that test (on his rig), wouldn't you want to know you could pass it? Wouldn't you want to know you can recognize the problems, find them all, and know you can do a proper gear check for someone? Can you recognize if a closing loop is too loose (main or reserve)? Would you catch that the rigs pervious user had disconnected the RSL and attached it to the hard housing? "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk -
2 unsupervised pack jobs before you got your A?
fields replied to fields's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did you jump your own completely unsupervised pack jobs, before you were signed off for your A? Just wondering. And when you did your "gear check another person", how thorough was it? Did they make a pilot chute in tow, mess with the 3-rings, hide the cutaway pad under the webbing, break seal, turn off cypres, misroute chest strap, push the hacky all the way into the BOC,....? Did you do 3-ring maintenance, or just witness it to get signed off? "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk -

Anyone going? Is everyone staying at the Adam's Mark Hotel? Anyone want to share accomodations to save money? I am considering renting a car to visit some dropzones and manufacturers afterwards. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

Damn, that thing looks small! Mirage Freebag
fields replied to BlindBrick's topic in Gear and Rigging
You probably have more experience rigging than me, but I found these useful- ChutingStar Rant & Rave » Archives » June 2004 » Mastering the Mirage which was presented in Skydiving Magazine-Issue #277: August 2004 Mirage's online tips are invaluable too http://www.miragesys.com/product_info/on-line_manual/packing1.html good luck. -
I found lots of people's experiences with ACL injuries by doing a search. I wrote about my reconstrturction here in this past thread- http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=999045;search_string=acl%20;#999045 "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

As a packer, we named most of the tandem canopies. All purple was Barney, All grey was Smog, a very colorful EZ was called Circus Tent, another that was all pastels was called Easter Egg. There were two canopies that were red, black, and grey. They got named RoadKill and RoadKill II. A green one was called Gumby. I know McBain obtained a PD 210 7-cell for the purpose of landing a Mr Bill. I don't know if that was what they used. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

I am considering getting Deborah Blackmon's Rigger Sourcebook. I understand she is no longer updating them, and I imagine they might soon be hard to find. Is it overkill? I would like to have manuals, as very few people have manuals for their gear. Any opinions or guidance would be appreciated. I tore my ACL sparring. I did physical therapy for a few months. I felt like it never healed properly. A year later I did it again, while running out a seemingly nice landing. This time the doctor decided my knee needed to be drained. He warned me that, if there was blood in the fluid he drain, that would indicate that I likely severed the ACL completely. There was lots of blood. A MRI was done to confirm it. He showed me the MRI and introduced me the surgeon to schedule my graft. I got a patellar tendon graft. I was allowed to jump after 6 months. It was about a year before I felt like I could sprint around or bound up and down stairs. progress was not linear. I did physical therapy for a few months. The therapist insistied that I start bicycling immediately after I was off crutches. I tried running after awhile and had lots of pain. So I joined a local athletic club and got a personal trainer who was good at ACL rehab. The surgeon said I wouldn't have the range of motion I had before, because of scar tissue, but I have full range of motion back. This may be because I started packing, since I couldn't jump. All the kneeling and sitting on my knees must have helped. Good luck with your healing. "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

The filter is this one. this Tiffen web page covers what you guys have been telling me. I'll paste the text below- "And the sky is blue and righteous in every direction" Survivor Chuck Palahniuk

Thanks jalisco and jeiber. what is a `D' lense? The filter I have does rotate. it sounds like I don't need the filter. When you say you use one on your f100 do you mean for freefall photography?
-
AndyMan, Thanks for taking the time to explain the difference and explaining why the filter isn't that useful. I had been wondering about the chip references. I didn't equate chips with detectors (CMOS,CCD), till you explained it. After seeing the price and size of the VX2100, I'm content with my 2nd hand PC1 and its quality.
