It is not the weapons but the countries that have them that are willing to use them for aggressive warfare (read armed robbery writ large). The poblem is that when the UN decides the way things should be in the world, the US steps up to the plate and causes the US to appear the bad guy in some cases... ie Somalia... UN mission, US scapegoat. If every body wants to pick at us fine, but please don't expect us to pull your ass out of the fir next time, I am sure that our service men who go into harms way to help people out then get spit at won't mind at all staying home with their wives and children just this on time. From an Americans point of view, it seems that we like Bush for the fact that he is ready to tell the world to shove off and do what he thinks is right for his country, like every other world leader does without falling under the scutiny of the rest of the world. It appears to me that the rest of the world dislikes him because he seems to be doing things with out their permission, well guess what, they did not elect him, we did. It is the same thing as how it seems that there is a majority of countries out there that harbor anti-US sentiments, but what country is the first to send aid after an earthquake, or a flood. Who do the French despise now but were extremely happen to see back in 1944.
