The thing about that, is that in some states, South Carolina for instance, waivers aren't even worth the paper that they are printed on, regardless of the age of the signee, any half competent attorney can rip one to shreds in court. but there are some states (california) where the waiver has stood up in court very true, I just have a hard time with the waiver arguement being used as the be all and the end all statement. The waiver has a lot of value in some locales and is only good for kindling in others. I have seen/heard the arguement made so many times in the past few weeks concering Group members and the BSR's that use the waiver as evidence. The way I see it, the waiver issue has too many conflicting points to be used effectively one way or another. Just my humble opinion though. Chilling out at my home DZ after the Harvest Moon boogie, we were all around teh picnic tables listening to this guy talk, you know the type quite older gent, greying hiar and beard. He was talking about how he had never BASE'd and never would, then a buddy of mine who had done his first jump the day prior said to me, "Whoever this guy is, when ever he speaks everyone gets qiute, that is cool" I loved being able to whisper to my friend as I hand my log book over to get a jump singed, "Dude, you just met Jerry Byrd." Must agree. Leaner would definitely be better but after working with the FAA for the better part of five years, I can definitely see how much we need the USPA to stand for us as opposed to numerous other groups sending mixed signals. If we continue to present a strong, united front, the powers that be only have one organization to confer with and answer to, which in turn makes their job that much easier and keeps them in a much better disposition in dealing with us.
